Still can't get his Naas debut win out of my mind.....was seriously impressive in a slowly run race against a horse who has come out and won again

And then dropping back to 5f at The Curragh he just looked a class above IMHO

Will take a good un to stop him

A very smart horse alright and Jim thinks the world of him, as you rightly say the win of Lyons horse adds to the value of the form .

NAP OF THE WEEK
Report Kingchip June 15, 2015 10:05 PM BST
Finnegan - W Ward horse - posted 56.78 over 5f and 52.79 over 4.5f. He has come from a warm winter in Florida and is primed and ready.
The firm turf will suit and is strongly fancied. Same ownership as Hootenany last year.

Much better value at 6 or 7/1

Finnegan my hole, that's a million . The Coventry is a proper race and them Yankee horses won't win that. Finnegan to be nowhere, and as for times he has done, god help that poor chap

As it's a Group 1 day.....

2:30 Night of Thunder, gentleman of a horse who is  possibly still a tad underrated. The price he went off at in the Locking suggested they had left plenty to work on to me. Travelled like a dream in the QEII and might be even stronger this season being a Dubawi, will like the stiff finish. Can trust the Hannons to have him primed at the least, what a record they have.

3:00 Buratino, might not really have the class and I hate his trainer! but he might be the "now" horse here. We're due a rat winning the Coventry and this fella won that egg-and-spoon race at Epsom well having blown the gate. Should run to the line hard (bar the fact of who he's trained by) and there might not be much in this bar Bolgers'. If Coolmore's were any good, they'd be shorter, right?

3:40: Fair play to the Power horse for bringing a semblance of class and structure to what is often a stale scene if a good foreign horse hasn't come over. If there's another one to take over from him in the same vein, it has to be Muthmir. Not many horses are as good on firm as they are with cut so that rules out Mecca's Angel to me. If you like Muthmir, Robot Boy ran behind him latest, likes it road-like, and his trainer wouldn't have him here for nothing when there'd be doubtless some conditions race at a gaff track he could mop up instead?

4:20: Consort, Gleneagles was caught out a little by the slow pace at the Curragh, but I've seen him travel much better, maybe it was the ground? I'm going with Stoute's on the basis that the trainer isn't one to overface them these days (if he ever was) and with his lack of 2yo form not really making him a commercial stallion prospect, there is absolutely no reason to run him in this unless they think he is a bona-fida Group 1 horse (could go Group 2/3 route for now and there's another Group 1 mile race for 3yos still to come in France). Note: I could be completely underestimating just how much of a vapid tool Harry Herbert is, that he might run for the sake of it has crossed my mind but not on Stoute's watch surely.

I saw a lot of You'resothrilling, and she could be a total b*tch, I didn't like Gleneagles at the Curragh, lotta stoking went on very early and maybe some of it could be due to his dam's attitude rather than the "just-do-enough" of Giant's Causeway coming through. Make Believe did great to make all at Longchamp but the horse I'd want to take out of that is New Bay in second. The French 2000 is not one I like following milers out of. The race at Chantilly in a few weeks usually throws up a better run, fairer race.

5:00: Nothing original, Ray Ward is a horse that possibly needs this trip, had a promising comeback over much shorter, is very feasibly handicapped and went well before being hampered in this last year. Will go on the ground and has doubtlessly been trained for this by a trainer who is decent. Elsewhere, Always thought Hurricane Higgins would one day bag a big one despite being a ****. Now that he isn't being trained by as much of a ****, and having been hurdling, maybe he could be a factor here. Will be fine at the trip.

5:30: No great opinion on this beyond the fact i'm not a great fan of Washington DC, the Hannons aren't saying much and Hughes didn't even ride his pick on debut. Mick Channon will probably win it!

Well done Neill, very interesting piece on today's racing . A breath of fresh air compared to the rubbish that comes from wonky dan & co. Very nice write up

Good write up Neill.

I saw Finnegan make his debut in a race he was supposed to win. Ran well but was ultimately put in his place by a horse that was well beaten since (though he didn’t have much luck in that race). Finnegan switched to the grass for his second race and hosed up in a nothing race. Turf races for 2yo in the states this early in the season would be dirt. He’s not the typical Ward speedball in that he should get the trip. He’s no Hootenany though.

Round Two is about as likeable a 2yo as you will find. Nothing too flash but has been well on top at the end of both races. Got a bump out of the stalls on debut and was drawn well off the rail at the Curragh. Both of these will have been beneficial to his development. I think he’s certainly a bet at his current price. Whatever beats him will have to go a bit. The Ballydoyle runner was also good on debut. He travelled noticeably well given how green his peers tend to be on their first run. The form has also worked out well though the second gave him first run and Dusty didn’t get stuck in until late in the day. He should be capable go a good show.

The English form looks more solid than spectacular. Obviously they are largely unexposed at this point so something may spring forward. To summarise, Round Two to rubber stamp his claims as a top 2yo while I doubt Finnegan will be fighting out the finish.

Well done Neil d with Buratino.

You did your work on the race, it was a good read and it was the right result for you.

WD Neil.

I backed Air Force Blue e.w at 7s myself. Thought he was home for all money when bursting through.

Queen Anne a bit disappointing. Winner may be a superstar over 10fur, but todays form is nothing to write home about.

Hard to see beyond the front two in market here. Backed both e.w with 4 places at 4s and 11-2.
