Michelle Smith is Ireland's finest Olympian.
She was the most tested swimmer in the history of the sport yet never failed a drug test

Beautiful intelligent a fluent Irish speaker, tis no wonder the liberal elite wanted to do her down.

All Olympic medal winners have had some help.

I think it was Janet Evans that wildman fired the accusations at when I first joined him in a discussion on here. That proved to be well wide of the mark. He is correct re Smith but nobody believes she was innocent and very few are proud of her achievements.

The Farah case will be very interesting as he was a promising athlete in the first years of his career but showed abnormal improvement when he relocated to Portland. He could simply be improving his coach like when when Murray dropped tennis legend Mark Petchey but it does warrant a look at.

It reminds me of Christie who was around for years before breaking through in a 200m in 21.11 or something like that indoors. The level of improvement he showed after that was ridiculous at his stage of his career, yet he seems to have pretty much escaped too much investigation despite being involved in Calvin Smith's gold medal winning display in Seoul in 88.

Farah is surely guilty as sin himself.

What clean athlete wants to work with a corrupt coach?? And it is nigh on unbelievable that he wouldn't have known.

I expect Mo Farah will suddenly be 'Kenyan' again in the British media!!

She had a face like a bee keepers apprentice alright paulie!

Most world records in track and field are drug related; some of them stand over 30years by   eastern bloc athletes,  Michelle Smith must  have felt like a Dipso with a nagin of paddy in her sky rocket in case she was call in unexpectedly;  Gary O'Toole was dead right about her.

Michelle Smith had classic Irish good looks,an absolute honey.

Mincer does seem to have a problem with anything Irish, whether its the Rugby team or our racecourses.

I wonder what Mrs Mincer and Mrs Callitasucit look like.

In your eyes.

I am surprised anyone would think Michelle Smith anything other than a stunner.

Wonder what ye think of Sonia OSullivan ?

Its amazing the way group think kicked in with regards Michelle Smith, suddenly deemed toxic by RTE and those hypocritical journalists so they just pretend she never existed.

They can twist they can argue with their logic but she still has those medals, she is still Ireland's greatest Olympian.

I won't get involved in the looks debate but its fascinating to see wildman talking about twisted logic. In his attempt to justify his letter of the law not guilty position he tries to incriminate every Olympic medal winner without any shred of evidence.

No evidence against the East Germans.
No evidence against the Russians.
No evidence against all the American athletes who failed drug tests that got hushed up.

The Olympics were similar to the Tour De France, you didnt count without some help.

So you think its a reasonable position to want evidence against every Olympian medal winner to accept that drug taking was rife in all Olympics.

That sets the bar pretty high.

In spite of tampering with a drug test and producing mind boggling time improvement relatively late in her career Michelle Smith comes out smelling of roses in Wildman's world.

Those people who toiled fairly over many years are tarred by Wildman's assertion that all Olympic medal winners had some help.

Yet he accuses others of twisted logic!!

There was no doubt Smith was as guilty as sin but wildman is correct, she is one of the greatest sports man/woman this country has ever produced.

Are people so naive they believe she was the only one at it??! Laugh

The whole moralising over Lance Armstrong is nauseating. Again as guilty as sin, but the victim of an absolute hatchet job by the media led by saint of saints David Walsh and a new head of wada desperate to make a name for himself. No mention of the literal hundreds of cyclists who tested positive throughout the 90s

Without doubt the absolute greatest athlete I have ever witnessed

RQ, its hard to quantify how good/great someone is when you know they are taking 'helpers'.

Yes the majority of athletes/cyclists may be on something, but it is very hard to put any of them up as the 'greatest' anything, when they hadn't even the own self belief to try it clean.

Greatest Irish sports man/woman...try BOD, Roy Keane, AP, POD, Rory, Shefflin, Paul McGrath etc.......played unaided on a level playing field. With consistent distinction at the highest level.

That doc on bbc last nigth just shows what a joke the testing is. A guy was alleged to be on it starting at 16 and finished second to mo in london AND MO WAS THE TRAINER. OK.

PAUL McGrath was so desperate for booze he drank a pint of Domestos bleach - twice.

The troubled Republic of Ireland soccer hero tells of his drink and drug abuse in a new book and admits he still battles his demons every day.

The 46-year-old also tried to kill himself four times and once slit his wrists in front of his four-year-old son.

He admitted: "One night I was absolutely desperate for a drink but there was nothing in the house.

"I raided every single cupboard. It's difficult to explain the desperation that kicks in when the craving hits.

"So I took out a pint glass and filled it with Domestos. What was I thinking?

"I remember screwing back the top on the container, then looking at the glass knowing I was playing Russian roulette with my life. Then I did it. Took the glass and downed the Domestos."

The ex-Manchester United and Aston Villa star was fully aware he had put his life at risk.

He added: "My chest was absolutely on fire. And I'm there thinking, 'This one's going to kill you. You're now in the process of melting your insides'."

He then drank pints of water which saved his life.

The next time he tried the stunt he ended up vomiting it all up............

Former England star Kenny Sansom has revealed that he is homeless.
The Arsenal legend, who won 86 caps for his country, has admitted that has hit rock bottom after years of struggling with alcohol problems.
Former full back Sansom, 54, has been sleeping on a park bench and despite a brief stay with his elder sister, he disappeared again on
tuesday

In an interview with The Sun, he said: 'I've been living homeless for 10 days.
'That's because I've got no money, I'm a drunk, I'm feeling not very well and I'm a gambler. I've been living on the street. It's not good living on the bench.
Sansom, who is England's second most-capped full back after Ashley Cole, has been drinking SEVEN bottles of rose wine each day, according to The Sun. ..  i saw Kenny playing a few times Roger ..we wish him well

Most of us who have no real addictions find it hard to identify with those who have serious addictions , drink , drugs and gambling being 3 of the most quoted . Some of our most gifted people sportswise have had addictions , Best and Higgins 2 of our northern lads with talent to burn , but ultimately wasting a lot of it .

Cant help feeling that if more time and effort went into finding cures for addiction it might pay dividends . But vested interests dont work that way . No bookie for instance is going to fund potential cures for gambling addicts ( who fuel profitability ) .

Kelly there is no such thing as a cure for Most Serious Addictions, only through programmes can man keep the Addiction at bay,i knew a man who drank himself to death after being off the drink for 17years,.. take a walk around our Capital city and you will see plenty of evidence where addictions are concerned. The pain in Kenny Sansom eyes is there for all to see.
