Im flying in to dublin on Saturday 12th september for champions weekend so will be attending leopardstown and then the curragh the following day and then flying back on Monday.
Any suggestions where i should stay? If i get a hotel in the city centre will i be able to get to and from both tracks easily enough or would i be better staying further Out closer to the courses?
City West Hotel would be the call , a fine hotel on the Naas rd and around 25 mins from the Curragh it also has a direct rail service into Dublin about a 40 min journey from which you can get a bus to Leop , or its roughly a 30e taxi ride , City Centre is pricey on weekends...

City centre is cheaper at weekends than during the week.
Stay in the centre of town and have a night out. Very easy to get back in from Leopardstown..25 mins on a suburban train.
Get a bus direct to the Curragh racecourse from Westmoreland Street on the Sunday..

Reckon somewhere like the O'Callaghan Mont Clare would do the job. Great location, 100 odd yoyo's* a night.
* the yoyo is not worth a whole lot these days.

Staying in the Citywest would be a dose. Miles from town.
I'd recommend staying city centre as you can get the Luas to Leopardstown. You can get bus to Curragh then easily the following day. Saves renting a car and you can lush on.
Any of the O' Callaghan hotels would be fine. You could also stay in either the Hilton (beside Charlemont Luas stop) or the Mespil Hotel which is close by. The Mespil is just of Baggot Street which leads you to many fine establishments. You'll be glad to have paid the extra bobs when it comes to heading home at night.

put it this way the last time Workrider was making a hotel choice... he wanted somewhere handy after Limerick races to head on to Mallow...selected a hotel, the opposite side of Limerick City, across the Shannon and halfway to Ennis. You couldn't really make it up.
Would love to see the route he plots across England for his annual week long tour of racecourses via public transport.

Stay in dublin centre, easy to get from/to airport. Airport - city there's a bus or about E25 in a taxi depending on time of day city - curragh get the bus and back - check the website for options city-leopardstown get the tram and back or a taxi - check the website
hundreds of places to stay in the city and its quite compact - check tripadvisor
fantastic weekend went last year and regularly do the curragh at the end of may. Far better than english racing and the prices are sensible.

If you want to stay out of the city, then stay at Bewleys beside Leopardstown racecourse, or very close to it.
That leaves you close to the races and there are pretty decent transport links into town.
You would stay in Citywest if you were at a conference, or something like that. It is on the Naas road for heading to the Curragh but unless you are driving that is not much use to you. It is near nothing else and would be costly to get to and from.

D V. it costs 4e 60 return to the City Centre , the luas is 50yds from the hotel , Mincer on the other hand would have plenty of experience of the Joy no doubt , the Mayfield safe cracker spent many a day wishing he was in the City West , considered good enough to host the U.S. Ryder Cup squad , with a Championship golf course attached , way out of the Mayfield knackers price range ...

The Luas is finished at midnight or close to it, so there is a fair chance that he will not be able to avail of it.
It would not be the nicest way to travel late in the evening either.
No issue with the hotel but for the weekend that he has planned, it looks far from ideal.
He may have no interest in the city centre however.

It is not just during the night, during the day the Luas red line is full of junkies and knackers especially from Abbey Street up to about Hueston, it's shocking tbh, then again hardly surprising as these vile individuals are allowed roam free around the city getting up to whatever they like

Coundn't agree more premier, that red line is outrageous. It creates such a bad first impression for tourists visiting the city, it must be frightening for them.

When you arrive at Dublin Airport you can get the Aircoach bus outside the door directly to the Clayton Hotel in Leopardstown €14 return. (walking distance from the racecourse) A bus service called Dublin Coach departs from The Clayton Hotel at 12.20pm on Saturday the 13th Sept and brings you directly to The Curragh Racecourse, returning at 6.30pm. (I think it is €20 return) The Clayton is about 25 mins from the City Centre and serviced very regularly by the Aircoach and if you want to go back in to the City and it goes all through the night. (every half hour) A taxi from the City Centre to the Curragh would be near €80
I think The Clayton would be the ideal choice if there are any vacancies.

Actually I just checked on the Dublin Coach website and it is €29 return and that includes entry to the Curragh. You MUST book online to avail of this service.

Im sorted getting from the airport to the city centre and we're sorted getting to leopardstown and back on the saturday.
I had a look at the coach to the curragh but thinking taxi instead. 3 hungover blokes if its a few quid more each its not a problem and it will take away any hassle! Have been quoted 60 euros e/w which includes picked up from hotel and dropped at the course and collected from course after racing. Sounds alot but 40 euros each or 30 ish pounds and we're very tempted... Thanks again.
