We raised your profile by capping you at underage but now you want to go the other way and wait to see if england come calling and you can expand your marketability.
The thing is if we allow you to dictate and treat us as the poor relation then every young lad will weigh up his options and we will only get the duds.

That idiot Roy Keane couldn't spot his potential even though he was watching him everyday in training. Similarly, Harry Kane was playing in the reserves for Spurs this time last year. Surely that was Keane's brief to identify these guys? In all fairness, Keane is doing a sh1t job and should be given the gate.

Im not denying he is probably right for himself but its not right for ireland or the FAI.
A player of any age should know what country is in his heart so it shouldnt be such a big deal to make up your mind in a couple of weeks. If no commitment is forthcoming than that should be the end of the road for good, Why should we be the ugly girl waiting to the end of the night for the lads who couldnt get the pretty ones earlier. |

Ireland have been trying to convince him for a while even before keane went to villa so thats what i mean he,s had 18 months or so to make his mind up but is playing us like a flute waiting for england to come calling. We should call his bluff and tell him its now or never imo. |

It's a no brainer for the chap. He is going to declare for England and if he had any sense that is what he would do. The fact that Roy Keane couldn't spot his potential when watching him everyday in training is disturbing when everybody else could see how good he is when playing in one FA cup game. He could have easily been thrown in against Gibralter if Keane was on top of things and that would have sealed his allegiance.

Kabcast and Kavvie would be right, and he'd be mad to play for us, really. We were better than Scotland when McGeady and McCarthy switched.
If Grealish turns out to be as good as he thinks he is, he'll note that the major Spanish clubs take trophy signings out of every major international tournament. ya gotta be there, and with England he will be. |

I'd rather a mercenary who can play than a whole-hearted dud. The mercenary will at least contribute occasionally, and I think all footballers want to play well as a matter of pride anyway.
It's all about qualifying and if MON wasn't down on bended knee he should have been. The Spanish weren't above fighting for Diego Costa, who are we again? Heart and commitment alone will get you nowhere in international sport, might carry an AIL side, a LOI Div 2 side or a club GAA team, but big-time sport is decided on ability and tactics in that order. |

I would take an opposite view on this. Someone like Bale...it's a great bonus for prospective clubs that he gets every single Summer off to recuperate rather than breaking his balls in some futile tournament. Ok, you don't have the benefit of the shop window effect..but if good enough in EPL you will be seen anyway. |

What a really top kid probably should do, is just ignore international football altogether. I can see more and more taking this route. There is no money in it, only hardship and risk of injury and no chance of success playing for either ROI or Ingerlund.
There was a time when international football really boosted profile and sponsorship potential etc. But that was before every Prem game was screened live all over the world. Any top cub would be delighted to have a player focus exclusively on them and probably compensate him for doing so. |

Yeah, I was getting on about the shop window effect, I guess there is the potential commercially (image & endorsement revenue as well) Grealish has huge potential that way as the only English player with a similar style to him would probably be Lallana. Very unique and a young white male who is photogenic. English tournament hero = cash.
Tbh, was attributing the shop window effect to world stars such as Ronaldo (2002), Cannavaro (2006) James (2014) whose reps were probably made anyway. A few of the Costa Rican guys did well out of the last World Cup, but I suppose if Grealish is doing it in the EPL, they'll all want him anyway. |

rish rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll has added his two cents to the debate surrounding Jack Grealish's international future after the Aston Villa midfielder turned down a chance to join Martin O'Neill's squad ahead of the clashes with England and Scotland next month.
On Newstalk's Off the Ball last night, a show on which BOD is a regular contributor, Kenny Cunningham expressed his opinion that he wouldn't call Grealish up for another squad after he turned down the opportunity yesterday. This morning, O'Driscoll tweeted that he "couldn't agree more" with Cunningham's opinion, a statement that will meet with approval with plenty of Irish fans who feel the same way and disapproval from those still clinging onto the hope of seeing Grealish in a green jersey. |

If he is sensible he will play for Ireland and have a long international career.
He looks like a player who will only last a couple of years until his speed goes. We have had problems with prima donnas before. |
