The most notable aspect of Sunday's card at HQ is that the name Joseph O' Brien is nowhere to be seen. Not unusually, Ryan Moore is jocked up for the front line runners. However, Donnacha is riding the second strings for Ballydoyle.
I don't believe he is banned and the lowest weight he has ridden at in 2015 is 9st 8lbs (with no recent rides). It's looking increasingly likely that his time has passed on the level.

Over hurdles on Sunday . His future is there too , no sense killing your body for too long .
Nothing to prove on the flat , plenty of winners in his short ( to date ) career . |

The Coolmore gang will have a decision to make. Does they want a full strength jockey (ala Moore, others) riding in the classics or someone who has had to shed 5 to 7 pounds to do the weight and is probably weakened by the experience? Going to be interesting few weeks. Aidan may have to be told the answer.

It might be an interesting question in a decade or so, which jockey rode the winner of the derby and the cheltenham gold cup, on a more serious note i think Joseph has done very well to ride on the flat as long as he has.

Joseph O'Brien will be riding over hurdles
The 21-year-old has twice been crowned champion jockey on the level but he will bypass the first card of the new season in favour of riding Egyptian Warrior in the Family Fun Day Rated Novice Hurdle. O'Brien's mount is trained by his father Aidan for owner JP McManus and has won two of his four outings over obstacles. O'Brien is due to be at the Curragh after racing to ride some of his father's illustrious Flat string in now-traditional post-race gallops, and it is understood he will continue to ride on the Flat this season. "Joseph told me earlier in the week he was going to ride at the weekend so we're looking forward to it," said Frank Berry, McManus' racing manager. "He's had a lot of experience at eventing and everything like that. It will come naturally to him and we wish him the best of luck. "He has loads of experience and has been riding over jumps since he was a child. It will come easy to him." Aidan O'Brien confirmed his son's plans to return to the Flat in due course. In a statement to Press Association Sport, O'Brien said: "Joseph is a little heavy at the moment but plans to be back riding on the Flat shortly. "He has his first ride over hurdles on Egyptian Warrior at Limerick on Sunday after which he will travel to the Curragh to ride work after racing. "Ryan (Moore) will ride all of our first-string horses at the Curragh on Sunday." |

Should decide one way or the other as he will be falling between too stools.
Too much lead over jumps, drained at the weight on the Flat. Tough to give your horse the best chance in either circumstances. It can't be a good idea to leave him ride as first jock in the Classics. They could easily get Moore as lets be honest, those Stoute horses coming out of maidens don't mean near as much as they once did. |

Perhaps it is time that the people who run racing set an upper height limit for jockeys.
I do not like to see jockeys 5' 8" and above trying to do a weight under 9 stone. |
