Can anyone give me any useful info about the track please. Top trainers, jockeys etc. Maybe cheapest admission prices and best place to eat, too etc? Many thanks

We have officially 3 main categories for rating tracks here in Ireland, namely
1. Quality of Racing 2. Catering Facilites 3. Toilets The regulars will be along soon to rate Limerick along the above criteria. Do you mind if I ask if you are fussy about the racing, the eating or the sh1ting or is it a combination of the 3 that you would be after? |

Ozy, wouldnt mind some tips really. Regularly go dog racing Shelbourne Park but never been horse racing in Ireland before. Wouldnt be considering the Curragh, staying in Limerick for the weekend

Welcome to Limerick. Plenty sporting action in Limerick this weekend. As well as the family raceday at Limerick Racecourse on Sunday there is an opportunity to visit Thomond Park on Saturday evening at 5.15pm and witness what should be a decent and crucial derby match between Munster and Connacht . Both sides have everything to play for with Munster trying to cement their top four playoff place and Connacht trying to qualify for next season's European Cup. Well worth a visit. Another option, and indeed you could comfortably attend both is the evening action at Limerick Greyhound Track. As luck would have it the semi finals of the €80,000 Con and Annie Kirby Memorial puppy stake take place this Saturday and as the prize money would suggest some high class racing is in the offing. I would recommend any of the City Centre hotels with The Strand and The Clarion my personal choices. Both are conveniently located on the riverside and are less than a three minute walk to the city centre. As you would expect there are many dining choices in the city centre with my personal favourite being the Piccola Italia in O'Connell st. As the name suggests an Italian restaurant, family run restaurant with a lovely ambience and quality food. Another option is the award winning Cornstore in Thomas Street. Racing on Sunday is at Limerick Racecourse ( about 10km from city centre). General admission is €15 although the punter package for €19 looks exceptional value. As well as admission you receive a free €5 bet, a racecards and a free drink. Enjoy your weekend |

Not my favourite racecourse but a natural amphitheatre and a great viewing track
Its Ireland's newest racecourse but doesn't attract big crowds or good horses but still worth a visit. |
