RUBY WALSH has been confirmed as the rider for hot Stan James Champion Hurdle favourite Faugheen, who was among the Willie Mullins battalion to enjoy the boat trip to Britain on Saturday ahead of the Cheltenham Festival.

Walsh left his decision late as to whether he would partner Faugheen or Hurricane Fly, twice a winner of the race and unbeaten this season. However he has gone with the son of Germany, who has never suffered defeat at any level.

"I got a call from my staff and the horses arrived fine," Mullins said at noon Saturday. "Ruby will ride Faugheen. We had a look at it but all the work is finished how. It's amazing to have Hurricane Fly as a second-string."

To be fair Punch, it hardly warrants a thread. Anyone who thought there was any chance of Ruby riding HF should do something else with themselves next week.

Ah yeah, not having a go or anything Punch. At the end of the day, it is news, but I don't think it was ever really up for discussion. As long as Faugheen was fit and well.

Still convinced Faugheen will be the big drifter Tuesday morning. I expect him to win, and win well, but I expect to be backing him at 6-4, maybe bigger.

WELL DONE Punchestown...at least it's an 'IRISH SPORTS' thread... and one of the most talked about topics of Cheltenham 2015.

They'd both (Fly & Faugheen) shorten were this to happen. Faugheen pissed up in Limerick over 3 miles on heavy as a novice.

IMO ITS SIMPLE RUBY EVEN IF THE   underpriced an over rated FAUGHEEN wins  IT WAS UNFAIR ASK HIM CHOOSE BETWEEN A HORSE THAT HE HAS WON 18+RACES  AND HIS RETIREMENT RACE  OR RISK PI$$EN ON MEGABUCKS OWNER WHO HE HAS suc UP TOO OR LOSE LOTS BIG RIDES

PRAY THE FLY FINISHES In FRONT OF A promising NOVICE AND IM HAPPY IF IVE BEEN WRONG

I don't think HF has a prayer on the usual ground but would be a player if it (soft ground) showed up and Faugheen kicked a few flights out of its way in the race.

Callit 'playing the man yet again, and not the ball' (in his first post having a wee dig at punchestown and not discussing the subject matter).

Catch Me, You are wrong. Again.

Firstly you insinuate I regularly 'play the man'. Wrong, as 95% of people on here will agree with.

Secondly, you say I had a go at punchestown. Where?? I said the news hardly deserved a thread. It didnt. If I was 'having a go', it was at anyone who thought there was a chance Ruby would ride HF. Which makes your whole statement false, as that in itself was discussing what the thread was about. Rubys decision, or lack thereof.

How Faugheen shortened from 2.4 to 2.18 when the news was announced is incredible. Who did they think was going to be riding him?? One is a red hot 11-8 shot, one a 10-1 shot. Ruby is a born winner, with a huge drive for success, especially at the highest level. The suggestion that he would ride a 10-1 over an 11-8 shot was absurd.

And if HF wins, it wont make his decision a bad one. 10-1 shots win. 11-8 shots lose. But unless something untoward had happened Faugheen, he was going to be on him.

I would lay 100-1 that punchestown thought I was having a go. He is obviously an intelligent sort, and would have known what I meant.

With a bit of rain between now and Tuesday, I would have HF and Jezki closer in the betting than currently. I may backi him in a match bet, or place back, as I dont think Arctic Fire has any chance, and have never been a believer in Jezki.

You'd be right and it probably didn't deserve a new thread but with the current state of the place around here a fresh, dross free thread is there if we want to avail of a bit of proper racing chat with the Festival right on top of us Cool

Let's move on and keep this just about the best week of the year.Happy
