pleasure to say Jimmy is my fellow countyman.

Jimmy far too biased to be classed as a great commentator.
Bernard Dunnes fight on one of Irelands greatest sporting days is a prime example. Jimmy had him miles ahead, he was behind. In saying that he does get the hairs rising, and I shouldn't slag off his patriotism as I'm the same myself. Ryle Nugent must be the best we have ever produced. Absolutely top class. |

Don't like Magee he is a clown and a poor commentator, maybe people that do not have a grasp of sport find him beneficial i just find him a bore and not as accurate as someone would like to think. I can't believe at his age RTE still let him commentate.

Is it urself Ryle... Nugent is focking dreadful i thing , cant stand his voice.. Darragh Moloney and Hamilton are two of the best around |

Nugent has grown on me a bit actually, especially the Tommy Boooooowwwwwe at try-time. Clearly loves the game and hasn't put Rugby first as Head of Sport which many thought he would. Caught the end of Jim sherwin and he was probably my fav, though. Probably an age thing and the time that was in it for Munster.
Have to agree with Rocket & Callit on Magee and would add that some of the Dunne interviews in the early days especially, bordered on ass kissing. Dunne was a lovely sskillful fighter to watch, though. If you enjoyed him have a look at Kevin Mitchell next time he is on Sky. will probably be exposed somewhere along the line but what a lovely fluid style. Darragh is grand. safe pair and good at his job. Ger Canning has a mellifluous voice but it comes over that he 'never played the game', score taken 40 yards out straight in front of the posts(Hurling) ain't always a 'great score' Ger. Marty Morrisey really knows his stuff and has a great feel for the game but he is hokey as ****, which can grate. Ian Darke is my favourite Boxing/Football commentator, the guy is just world class, knowledgeable and razor sharp with a quip at the appropriate time. He's supposed to be very popular with ESPN in America. |

for gaa marty morrissey is diff class.dunno how canning is still getting matches.he has no feel for gaa at all..

Jimmy is still going strong at the young age of 80. Fair play to him and his fantastic memory. He has done an awful lot for Irish boxing and athletics and should be respected.

Morrissey is a waffler, Canning for me is brilliant. Kavvie just because he is from Clare pfff. I really disliked Nugent at the start but just like Neill d says he has grown on me and tbh i think he has done well in RTE in his position and any time i hear him speak i find myself agreeing with him.

Canning has grown on me a bit over the years .. But looked back to the 1994 all ire with Offaly and Limerick one night and i thought he was poor enough for a great finish to a final

rocket morrissey is good.end of.he loves gaa and it shows.canning sounds like a hockey commentator

Morrissey should be on the panel of Strictly dont mind commentating on GAA.Thats if you could get him off the sun beds and away from looking in the mirror at himself.
