A 16th Derby Qualifier for ADIOS ALONSO and a 2nd for this decent looking litter. ( see SEAQUIN - No 31 OAKS ) This fellow is owned by Tipperary man Darren Byrne and handled by Tim O'Donovan. He made his debut at Castleisland and went out in Round 2 to SPEAKEADY FOLEY. It was 5 weeks to his next run at Bandon where he went out in Round 2 to CARROWKEALE GAVIN ( Winner ). Next stop Templetuohy where he collected his Clonmel Ticket accounting for RATTOO PAT, JIMMY THE TANK, MARFIELD KING, BIGBADLEROYBROWN ( S.F. Borris in Ossory ) and MADTOGOJAM in the Final.
MICKS VICTORY TEMPLETUOHY ADIOS ALONSO - VICTORY POINT / Jan A 16th Derby Qualifier for ADIOS ALONSO and a 2nd for this decent looking litter. ( see SEAQUIN - No 31 OAKS ) This fellow is owned by Tipperary man Darren Byrne and handled
The draw for the **** took place last Sunday evening in the Clonmel Park Hotel. A good crowd attended the event and Lar Sutton provided an excellent service to those who could not attend by live streaming the draw.
1 st Quarter The opening couple of courses are very interesting with the 4 dogs all fancying their chances of success. Leg it fast is owned by Noreen mc Manus and I saw this one win his trial stake in Rathkeale. He showed some excellent gears from half way and beat the fancied Tynwald dog in the final. This was his debut run and will surely improve from the outing. Brownes Kitchen is a dog I like from the ‘Saleen’ Kennels in Tarbert. He ran with real gutso in Abbeyfeale and very nearly beat Serene Angel in the semi final. Brownes Kitchen was well liked in Ballyheigue and I’m sure the outing in Abbeyfeale will have brought him on again as it was over 2 months since his TS run. The second course sees the sponsors dog Ashmore Phantom pitted against Blades of Hope. Blades of hope was well supported in Nenagh where he found his kennel mate Crushers Oak too good in the final. He then went to Castletowngeoghan where to my knowledge opened the shortest price favourite for a TS ever. He won the TS well winning the final by 2 lengths. He is bred in the purple out of super brood Blades of Glory and is definitely in the right hands. Ashmore might find Blades a tad too hot in the opening course but don’t be surprised if we have an upset here. Matthews kennels are always one to prime their dogs in Clonmel. Crafty Tornado had a few outings before collecting his ticket. He is out of Tullamore and his runners do like the Powerstown terrain. He might be a bit short in terms of glory here and I feel his first round opponent Red Mania might have a bit too much. He ran well in Thurles where a winding hare in the final there scuppered his chances. He then was unlucky in Knockgraffon but struck it rich in Borris n Ossory. He loves a long field so Clonmel will not scare him. My only concern is he might find himself behind a bit too much in a course and will not be able to make up the ground. I fancy him to reach the last course on Sunday and set up a thrilling course with Blades of Hope or Browne’s Kitchen. Micks victory was well liked by connections during the year and finally came good in Templetuothy where he was a convincing winner of the TS. He loves a long stretch and his owner told me that Clonmel will be right up his street. I can see him qualifying to the Sunday morning as he should be too good for Charleville winner Tilted Moon. The next course sees 2 fancied dogs do battle. Tullamoy Master has been a talking dog since his TS win and this is reflected the bookies prices as he was cut constantly since. Stephens Owen is a very fast dog who has a clear preference for the red collar and this draw will be of no favour to him. He flew in two rounds in Cashel and ran well when winning in Gorey. I think the draw will really come against him in this course and Tullamoy is my choice to progress. Looking through the last 4 it seems that Tullamoy / micks victory have a great shout of making Monday morning. All 4 underneath both of these dogs need to improve to trouble these dogs but anything can happen in Clonmel.
2 nd Quarter The 2 nd quarter sees two of the fancied dogs appear. Since winning their TS , Kyle Bruce and Portane All in have been at the top of the market. Portane All in has a tricky opponent in the first round. Rathfort James was well liked in Regional after his victory and beat some good dogs along the way. He didn’t appear after but was 2 nd sub in Macroom so presumably trialled there. Portane won his TS in NCW convincingly and many shrewd observers suggest he is the best of Mike Donovans contingent. Looking at the draw, connections of Portane will be happy and fancy their chances of making it to Monday morning. Beef Budget has improved throughout the year and won well in Galbally for local connections. Hopefully he will give them a good run in Clonmel. The bottom 8 of this quarter sees Kyle Bruce appear and rumour has it that this dog is special. He was surprisingly opened at 33/1 for the Derby after his TS win in Castleisland but was cut straight away into 12/1. He showed exceptional pace there and dogs such as Micks Victory, Needham Crystal, Portane All in (withdrawn in 3 rd round) have franked the form. Call up Pal won the Troy electrical stake in Kilcullen but I feel he is short a bit for outright success. He should get over Derrylough Henry – a dog with exceptional early pace. He ran well in Tradaree but was beat over 3 lengths by Cooga Jonjo in the Corn na Feile. Another dog to note in the 8 is Timmy TrickieBow. He is trained by Kevin Barry and he is a good man to get a dog right for Clonmel. Trickiebow won a hot TS in Miltown malbay and im sure he will give a good account of himself here. Woodpark Alonso won a duffer in tradaree and then a reserve Derby in South Clare. He faces Macroney Rebel who was beat in the puppy stake in Mooncoin after gaining admirers in Fermoy. If coming back to his best he should have too much for the Clare runner. Overall it looks a match between Portane and Kyle with Portane my slight favourite to progress to the semi final. 3 rd Quarter The opening course in the 3 rd quarter has all the makings of a cracker. Rory for Glory took a while to collect his TS but connections are the best to get a dog ready for Clonmel. He was beat well in Nenagh when I saw him so unless he has improved considerably, I feel he may well come up short in this buckle. Chubbys charmer has all the makings of a derby winner. Bred in the purple and sired by Razor Ashmore, im sure this fella will love the Powerstown hill. He was overly impressive in Mooncoin and seemed to get better and better as the stake unfolded. The next course sees That’s the Man against Ashwood Alonso. Ashwood ran in castleisland but showed marked improvement when winning down in Wexford at the next attempt. That’s the man is owned by Jimmy Barry Murphy and this dog will attempt to make up for the pain of losing Backstreet boy in Borrisoleigh who seemed well up in the final of the Derby TS only for to get severely hurt. That’s the man was all the talk in a Clonmel preview down in Kilkenny last week. He was mighty impressive in Freshford winning his TS and has been supported in the ante post market. He is exceptionally well bred and is in super hands. He should progress to Sunday but will need to pull out all the stops I feel. Kyle Fionn will be hotly fancied to qualify to Sunday. He showed great form in Thurles but ran poor in Abbeyfeale. Rumour has it he had a bit of a cold after abbeyfeale so this may well explain his performance. He beat red mania (beat Cooga Jonjo In ¼ final) in the final in Thurles who went on to win a TS so the form of the TS is good. Fergal showed vast improvement to win the TS in Borrisoleigh. He was well behind in the final to Backstreet boy but had beaten Carlow semi finalist Missouri Spruce in the semi final. Kyle will probably have his measure here. Crushers Oak the Derby Favourite is also in this 8 highlighting the quality here. He was outstanding in Nenagh where he beat Blades of hope comfortably in the final. This was his first outing here and will surely have improved since. It has been documented that he got a longer than average course in a trial last week so his well being is taken at trust. He is a worthy favourite and all things equal he should progress to Monday morning. Noreen Mc Manus has the fortunate honour of having 6 qualifiers, however the draw was not so fortunate as 2 of her dogs were drawn together in the 3 rd quarter. What a legacy has great form, winning the TS in Mitchelstown while running up to Corn na Feile winner Serene Angel in Listowel. Funny Alonso does not have the same level but this will be a close buckle. Maybe Legacy to prevail. Fingal Billy will be hot favourite to progress to Sunday in the bottom 8 and rumour has it that this dog flew in a trial. He has been supported into 14/1 for success and one thing is certain, Pat Savage always has his qualifiers ready for Clonmel. He will be short of nothing. Galtee boy will have a strong following and you will hear it from the stands should this one qualify to Sunday. Cash call won a good TS in abbeyfeale but seemed a bit behind Serenes clocks from the Corn na Feile. Pat o Connor will have him spot on and may hold too much for Gortmelia in their opening round. Overall it is probably the toughest quarter with a number of strong fancies. 4 th Quarter The opening course of the 4 th quarter sees Serene Angel against Judiligence. Serene has super form to his name, probably the best in the competition. He ran well in Listowel winning his TS well. He then appeared in Abbeyfeale and since the opening round he was favourite. He clocked up the same as Needham Danger in nearly all the rounds and that form alone would be good enough to win a Derby. If he has progressed again since Abbeyfeale, then I think the 14/1-16/1 quoted about him seems the best value for money in the entire field. He is in the right hands, showed that he has improved since his trial stake and will love the field. Skellig harbour and Timber house are two other dogs that will be fancied in this 8. Skellig harbour has been the subject of a mini gamble in the past 3 weeks but his price has stagnated in the last few days since the draw. The draw could have been kinder but im sure connections wont fear any dogs around him. He should win his opening round to set up a mouthwatering clash with Timber House. Another of the Mike Donovan contingent, this fella seems to the one they are backing. Now as short as 8/1 for success, he really caught the eye in Kerry. He is owned by local man Patrick Bowles so we wish him the best of luck in the stake. The bottom 8 is wide open with a number of dogs fancying their chances. Somelittlelord has been out a few times since Glin and I think his best performance was in Abbeyfeale where he ran Needham Simple to a tight length in the second round of the cup. He seemed to be staying on well In that course so Clonmel will be ideal for him. He hails from last years Oaks winners kennel so he will be short of nothing. The other dogs have sowed their ability a number of times except for Galbally echo. He has not ran since winning his TS in Mallow, a field similar in style to Clonmel with a great pull from slips to the escape. His clocks were impressive and he beat Blue Beruki (TS winner who has since withdrawn from the classic) comfortably in the final. I feel with natural improvement he will ha e a great say in this 8 and will be there or thereabouts Monday morning.
Overall the fancied runners will all be happy with the draw. They are evenly spaced up setting it up for one of the best classics in years. Doon CC would like to wish all runners the best of luck especially the locally owned runners

Greyhound & Pet World Oaks Similar to the draw for the **** Derby, the Greyhound and Pet World Oaks has seen many of the fancied runners avoid each other in the opening round. Again, the coursing fraternity are thankful to Lar Sutton for live streaming of the draw which thousands tuned into. 1 st Quarter The first greyhound to be picked out of the draw was Kingtone Jessie. This lady really deserved her ticket as she went so close in a number of outings. She has a real love of a testing field so Powerstown and the advantage of the same collar throughout will be an advantage should she progress to Sunday. The second course sees the puppy stake winner from Mooncoin against daythemusicdied. Somelittlelady is a ½ sister to last year’s Oaks heroine and connections will feel they have a similar chance this year. She failed to win a TS but put up a sterling performance in Mooncoin when beating dogs along the way. Incidentally, she is number 3 in the draw; the same number as Somelittlething last year! She should survive this course and is my pick to qualify to Monday morning. Leigh Snowie has been well touted since winning her TS in Charleville. Somewhat lucky to get up in the first round there she really took off after that and to be honest won the stake rather comfortably. She is a ½ sister to Kyle Leigh who was so unlucky a couple of years ago. She meets Moonveen Magda, a bitch I really liked in Limerick city when winning her TS. She beat carrowclough in the final there coming from behind to win by a good length indicating a long field really suited her. However, her run in Abbeyfeale was a big step backwards. She was beat 3 lengths in the first round and on all known form, that is not good enough to advance here. Damian Lonergan has reported that Linden Village has been well backed this week and after the draw the money has continued to pour. She was impressive in Galway Oranmore meeting (ran in Glin), where she beat Abbeyfeale scorer Cryptic Kerry in the 3 rd round. She will probably progress to Sunday however I feel somelittlelady will have her measure then. The next 8 see a few really fancied runners. The clash of the round could be Churchill queen v Bated Breath. Churchill won a very competitive TS in Castleisland where she beat Doon winner Boshski in the final. She then ran well in the AAB stake in Lixnaw where she found Simtam a length too good after clocking up well in the first round. Bated breath has been well fancied all year since her super trial in Rathkeale. She was backed off the board In Tradaree and South Clare but finally coming good in Milstreet where she ran away with the TS. She is just coming into form I feel and this will be enough to get her over the line. Barrow Cookie left it very late to win her TS in Macroom after a couple of near misses; however she could not have asked for a harder course than the Pat Curtin trained Breska Lantern. She absolutely hacked up in Tradaree after previously been beaten 2 lengths in the second round in Doon by Boshski. She really is progressing and if taking to the Powerstown Hill, she will be very hard to stop. She looks nailed on to qualify to Sunday and I feel she may progress to Monday to set up an interesting clash with somelittlelady.
2 nd Quarter The top 8 in the 2 nd quarter will be very happy with their draw. All will feel they have a chance of progressing to Monday morning. Crafty Merlano ran well in her TS but took a step back in Abbeyfeale when well beat in the Corn na Feile. She meets the unexposed Magical Saorla. A bitch that hails from the Guilfoyle Kennels. She has super early toe and stays on well. If she keeps going at the top of the field here, it will take a very fast bitch to beat her. The Guilfoyles always have their dogs peaking in Clonmel so I can see her winning this round and going further. Laytown girl will probably give her most to do I feel. She was well liked in her TS win and ran very well in Borrisoleigh in the AAB stake, narrowly going down to Champion Stake runner Horgie Baby. Other bitches to note in this 8 include; Avas Sweetheart and Belated Bracelet. Ava’s sweetheart won her TS well but disappointed in the second round in the Corn Na Feile where she was well beat by Cooga Jonjo. Belated Bracelet took many attempts to qualify but struck it gold in Cork and is sure to be well prepared by Jimmy Mulcahy. Alva Lil is a young bitch and with natural improvement may also run well for connections and breeder Fergus Flynn. The next 8 in the 2 nd quarter will also be fairly content with the outcome of the draw. Crossbound and Arcade Amy are two bitches who got their tickets in the last week of qualifying so hopefully will show no ill-effects of the 5 runs they had. The next buckle should be interesting. Cracking doll showed her liking to a long stretch when winning the TS in seven houses after only 2 weeks previous running up to Two Steps closer in Borrisoleigh. She was beat fairly comfortably there so I feel she will need to improve a bit to beat Dale Asgard. Since winning her TS, she has been well supported in the long odds market. She is bred in the purple out of an oaks and derby winner. She is trained by Brendan Farrelly and many shrewd observers claim that this bitch has all the right credentials for outright success. I have not seen annual edition run but her clocks in the AAB stake in Kilkenny would not be good enough here. She needs to improve further but this is not impossible. Areyoureadynow, cryptic Kerry and Sequin are others to note. Cryptic Kerry won her TS in abbeyfeale. She was said to be hurt going in to the final so to win on that basis is a good achievement. If fully recovered from this she might win a round or two but her clocks in comparison to the corn na feile were back a bit. Sequin is a sister to Micks victory, and has being knocking on the door before claiming the elusive prize in Kilrush. She loves the long stretch and actually was clocking better than Ballymac Adelpha (16/1) in Abbeydorney. She may give Dale most to do here.
3 rd Quarter The 3 rd quarter sees the gambled on Tobar Na Molt attempt to make a fairy-tale ending to Monday. Won in a raffle, she is the cheapest TS bitch ever purchased! She ran away with her TS and could not be bred any better being a half-sister to Newinn Wonder and Thomas the Tank. She will lack nothing and I feel she will have a big say come Monday evening. She meets the Pat Curtin Windfarm ivy in the opening round but should have too much. Jogon Jeannie and Jeffys Twinkle are litter sisters of Timber House. Jogon Jeannie was the outsider in Rathdowney but kept getting her head over the line. She seems to be a jealous type and in Clonmel this types are the worst ones to meet as they keep coming back for more as they head up the hill. Jeffys twinkle won in Johnstown but was beat in the semi-final in Mooncoin by somelittle lady and needs to improve again to have a say here. Vienna Calling and sunfire both contested in puppy stakes since their TS win and barring they had a slight knock I don’t think are good enough to get involved here. Ballyverry River was to my eyes one of the most impressive TS winners this year in Cashel. She beat Fanore Ocean in the final but this one failed to qualify since so maybe the form has taken a knock. She ran in Abbeyfeale where she was beat over a length by Ava’s sweetheart. She does not seem to have progressed since Cashel so I’m leaving her out of my calculations. Ougham Ellen beat up the saints in the final up in Westport and needs to improve to get competitive here. Up the saints and since been beaten in the first round twice. Ougham is well bred however and has a good set of connections behind her. La Banba would be a popular winner for the likeable Mangan family. I’m sure Joe will be looking down on her and hopefully she will give connections a good run in the classic. The bitch to win this 8 looks to be positioned in the white collar throughout. I see her winning her TS in Templetuohy and she absolutely flew. Thanks to Michael Mc Namara and his videos, Coffee in Spirit seemed to love the tuohy stretch and I’m sure powerstown will defiantly hold no fears. She is coming into form at the right time, has great trainers in the Flanagan family and is young which indicates she is improving still. She will take stopping I feel and if she takes to Clonmel like her mother Coffee in Currow, I think she will be there Monday morning. She might be worth a small bet to win her quarter! 4 th Quarter Michael o Donovan got a dreadful draw in the Oaks with 3 of his bitches in the top 8 of the final quarter. All 3 seemed to have excellent chances coming into the draw, but now only one might make it to Monday. Boshski has the form in the book. She won her TS here in Doon after beating some classy bitches along the way (Skellig Starwars, Breska Lantern, Toem Polly and Bonerea Jenny). All these bitches have franked the form since. Incidentally she meets Skellig star wars again but I feel the same result will occur here. Two steps closer was very impressive in Borrisoleigh. She beat Cracking doll well in the final and this bitch has since won in seven-houses. She meets Isabelle’s charm in the first round and this one will not go down without a fight. She has been the most consistent of bitches all year and have a lot of courses ran. However, if holding her form, she could well give Michael O Donovan’s charge a run. The next course sees another of the Michael O Donovan runners with Manntan Maple. Bred in the purple by Mafi Magic and Class Attraction, this lady is probably one of the fastest ladies in the stake. She was beat in the final in Edenderry when money on after two rounds. She then won her trial stake in Bandon but I feel her best runs are early on. This 8 is going to be a Michael O Donovan shootout I feel and I will be very surprised if 1 of his bitches are not there Monday morning. The bottom 8 sees Cree Caisce appear. Owned by Dinny Gould (Bookmaker) and trained in Tarbert by Pat/Tom o Connor she was a talking bitch after her TS win. It has been noticed that her price has not contracted for the classic so maybe she got a set back or is not flying at home but if back to her best she will have too much for Kilflynn winner Inslipsallin. Droopys sugar was purchased after her TS win and faces a tough opponent in Coolree Nadine. Droopys sugar looked to be flying in Waterford and to my eyes was extremely lucky to get the flag in the final. She showed great battling qualities to get back up in that course and should improve from the outing. I think I will slide with Coolree to advance however after winning her TS in Catletowngeoghan and clocking well compared to Derby fancy Blades of Hope. Ballymac Adelpha was the best bitch in the Corn Na Feile and was beat 1 ½ lengths in the semi-final by Cooga Jonjo. She will surely have a say in this and being a June whelp, will improve no doubt from that outing again. She will win her opening round I think and then get the better of Tuscan Cailin in the second round. Overall the quarter looks impossible to pick and it will take a brave person to back anything with confidence to emerge from here. Maybe Boshski will do it. Overall the Oaks look very competitive with many fancied runners. Bitches and form are tricky to get right so I think a bitch that has won their TS in December and later holds a strong advantage in terms of form and fitness. Boshski/two-steps closer/ Coffee in Spirit/ Ballymac Adelpha/ Breska Lantern are all bitches that fit the bill. Hopefully the frosts stays away and we have an exciting 3 days action in store.
