Unemployed Britons in Europe are drawing much more in benefits and allowances in the wealthier EU countries than their nationals are claiming in the UK, despite the British government’s arguments about migrants flocking in to the country to secure better welfare payments.

At least 30,000 British nationals are claiming unemployment benefit in countries around the EU, based on responses from 23 of the 27 other EU countries

the op asks a question about other wealthier eu countries, we in Britain have a problem with the POORER COUNTRIES??? no one has ever said other eu countries who have the same living standards as ourselves are a problem?unless your a conservative who wants to leave the eu anyway..when the let the Bulgarians romanians, myself and others saw that as a straw that broke the camels back.

30,000 Brits collecting dole around Europe, not sure about this figure but were it true its a tiny figure compared to the numbers flocking to Britain.

How many are drawing dole in Romania
How many are drawing dole in Bulgaria
How many are drawing dole in Slovakia.

None.

The same applies to Ireland,we have no dole drawers in these countries but by heck they have plenty here.

I don't blame the Roma Gypsy for wanting to come here,I blame the ruling liberal elite for letting them and not allowing us to object.

Shure look at that fella from Tipp MrT.
Rates of welfare are too high in ireland, really should be halved, the jsa in the UK is a pittance.

E188 vs £72, no wonder they are and the rest of them from other countries as well.

It just proves that figures can be misleading.

I would guess the majority of those Brits collecting dole in Ireland are just crossing the border to get the higher rates.
We all know of the villages on the border that got the population boom of young people to avail of the more generous dole.

All this makes my point that only people from a particular state should get benefit there.

We have enough homegrown unfortunates without importing more.

Very radical, but is the logic of where a person has originated from should not that state/country be paying their welfare in their new country?

Pa , that is simply brilliant ...Should be done right away , that would solve the problem in a flash...

I'm sure they have some form of legislation to cover themselves though in that event , but what a simple way it would be ,and just think of the savings , housing , hospitals , welfare ,etc ..Pa I'll be voting you in next election...Laugh

I,m too honest Workrider Grin, the model is nearly in place, the UK gives their pensions to those living in say Spain,Spanish rightly don't pay their pensions, what is wrong with Ireland sending a big bill to say Romania for looking after their citizens, why should they pay for them,oh the EU of course, not logically right though all the same.
By:

Fact is Pa , nobody wants the Roma , Romania is delighted to have a ligitimate reason for allowing them seek work in other countries , the irony of it eh , so they would be rushing to change anything in a hurry  ..Re your honesty , how could i even have thought you would fit in with that rabble , apoliges sir...

Lads half Ireland was on the dole in the UK in the 80's, that's not to say a fair amount of those were not working as well though, i suspect there are one or two on here that were at the exact same thing.

Anyway speaking of Roma's i meant a dancer where i lived last year, lovely lovely girl, anyway she turned out to be from a Roma gypsy background, one of the nicer dancers i have ever met, so don't think they're all bad, she covered for me a few times when i had the 2 ladies on the go but i won't bore people with that story.

missed an 's' mate, unless it's one of your juvenile attempts at a joke, late 20's, got on well with her, treated her to a few bottles of bubbly on one of my last nights out before i moved as a little thank you. But that is all the reward she got, i'm not a machine haha.

The difference between our generation, Rock, and the likes of Wonky's is that we made the most of the Iron Curtain coming down, punani wise.

What a wake up call it was for the drab, poorly turned out, frigid women of Ireland to suddenly have to compete with an influx of Katias from Bratislava!  Happy days! And what a joy it was, and indeed is, to take the odd weekend away Eastward ho!
