Have taken 9/2 about Heathfield at Bangor, who reverts to hurdles after a recent chase win. He stayed very well over 2m 6f last time, where he picked up the leaders to win pretty snugly after the last, and the step up to 3m will play to his strengths. He races off a one pound higher win than that chase victory. With 9 runners and C.oral paying 1/4 odds a place I've had a rare each way bet.

Not Bangor or Sedgefield but fancy a couple @ Southwell tomorrow.
Hussar Ballad in the first has a strong chance imo. Won a strong handicap here last time and is the only course winner in the field amongst in form rivals. Will be hard to beat @ 7/2. Rock of ages likewise has strong course form in the 2nd race. Has bounced back to form last couple of runs @ the course. Quite a competitive contest but 6/1 a fair price. |

Forced Family Fun looks worth backing in the first at South. Hard to see beyond the first two in the market. The fav his 5lb lower on the AW, and though he has to prove his liking for a specialists track like Southwell, there is more than a fair chance that he will relish it. Lightly raced, and still improving on the flat, I think he can get the better of Hussar Ballad. I was on him when he won lto, but got a soft enough lead, is up 6lb in a better race, and has a furlong extra to travel today. It was the trip which I was worried about the last day.

There is more chance of me going to Southwell, than FFF appearing there again!!

Like others, Norn ,I admire your appreciable ability to interpret form and identify good betting opportunities...your recent track record is quite formidable.
I note your analysis of Relic Rock's chances above where you declare 'he must surely win' ...but the part that intrigues me is the statement 'A P McCoy booked'. Just as a matter of curiosity how is this meant to be an enhancement of the horse's chances? Try as I might I can't see what difference it makes...but perhaps you can enlighten me. Best of punting luck for 2015. |

Race 2 - 1:40pm THE STELLA ARTOIS MAIDEN HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5)
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of DELVIN ROAD (IRE), ridden by Denis O’Regan and trained by A J Martin, which finished fourth beaten approximately 19 lengths having appeared to be tenderly ridden in the last half mile. They interviewed the rider and the trainer's representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer who stated that the gelding was lame at the trot on examination after the race. They also had observations from the Handicapper. The rider stated his instructions were to get DELVIN ROAD (IRE) settled, creep into the race and do his best. He added that the gelding ran freely in the early stages, was left in fourth place at the end of the back straight when the front runners quickened away and had no more to give from that point. The trainer's representative confirmed the instructions and added that DELVIN ROAD (IRE) is a hard ride, tends to run keenly and therefore wears a tongue strap. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. They suspended him for 10 days as follows: Tuesday 20 January to Thursday 29 January 2015. |

a few people were surprised the stewards gave him 10 days..as they thought it was harsh..but all eyes were on the martin runners and with the fancied one coming out of the bumper HEATHFIELD was the one that went close but difted ..7/2 from 9/4..

if it was owned by jp giggy ricci or the potts they wouldnt have the balls to do anything..sad state of affairs really.not saying aj is whiter than white....but its comical
