Surely going to struggle this year.....some of their decisions seem a bit strange to say the least.....
Giving horses to Elliott to get ready for trainers of inferior ability.......Putting a lot of eggs in the baskets of Noel Meade and even more worrying Mouse Morris.....
Other trainers in favour .....Charlie Swan....Colm Murphy...are hardly top drawer....

Now as we all know there is nobody quite like a pointing man for hyperbole......
If anybody is interested I will give a more reasoned synopsis of this horses performance......
First of all it looks a poor race and even if he has only average ability.......which he most likely has.....well then he should go and win....
In his point.....the ground was awful.....and he was in the process of grinding out a big margin victory when taking a really awful fall at the last.....the horse that he was going to beat subsequently ran in the pointing bumper at Fairyhouse and beat no horse home.....on top of that bar the winner Free Expression.....it was a bad looking renewal of that race....
When all is said and done it should win today.....but the term machine is bandied about all too regularly by the pointing fraternity.....theres a couple of Gold Cup winners run most Sundays according to those lads.....
Report GANT007 October 16, 2014 8:52 AM BST
A Civil Servant would be proud of that fence sitting statement.
Report wildmanfromborneo October 16, 2014 9:25 AM BST
I don't like Paulie and Paulie don't like me but this is what he is good at.

Its not a fence sitting statement its a presentation of the facts, its up to each individual here to interpret them in their own way.

On his breeding to me the ground should be no problem,it is a very poor bumper and his performance in the Punchestown point to point suggests he has an engine.

I don't know the stats but would think favourites in Punchestown bumpers outside the festival have an incredibly high strike rate.
Report pa lapsy October 16, 2014 9:47 AM BST
Maybe the ground was extreme in that point that day but rather than looking at the Potts horse Paulie maybe the 3rd(Ballykan) who was beaten 100L+ is the to look at? Went off fav and finished 2nd beaten just over 2L though that was on good on his last point. The other horse with point form looks very average to me today.
Very interesting runner anyway, must be a reason for the hood so early, still couldn't go against him here unless Martins is backed.
Plenty of long priced winners in this race in the last 10 years.
Report keen leader October 16, 2014 11:34 AM BST
as usual a whole load of guessing and fishermen out trawling because they simply do not know about utmost zeal.

yes the form of what would have been an easy win amounts to little...what the performance proved is that he has an engine.

now, not one of the above contributors have seen the horse up close, because if you did you would instantly see that he is tiny, almost a pony, so scope long term nay be limited. size is not everything, lack of it, did not stop one of my all time favourite chasers Viking flagship from making it to the top.

another issue re utmost zeal is that he damaged shoulder muscles the day he fell, I assume they have mended and it is hoped that the bone crunching fall(the screens were up for some time) has not left a psychological scar.

all in all, given the lack of opposition, utmost zeal should win easily, even 4/7 may look good value, as he hits 1.01 close home........2 or 3 years down the line, the odds are firmly against him being a grade 1 horse.

Alpha des Obeaux runs in tomorrows opener, won his point well though it was decimated. Ink Master ran a fair race today in the Cheltenham bumper taking the winner out,on a line through Adam du Breteau would suggest he could be a decent recruit.
Report Princesse D'Anjou October 20, 2014 9:58 PM BST
Sorry Slabster/Wildman et al not been on here since I posted that.

Fair enough about UZ would have expected him to win easier than he did and AJM putting his partner's daughter up on more these days when probably much better options on the jockey front for him (like her brother for instance).

Ink Master ran well coming from that yard Pa - they're normally drilled for their debuts (same with the Robbie Rabbit stable too).  One of our pointers started out there and was sold to Charlie Mann after finishing runner-up at Templemore, they also sold one to Paul Nicholls for a lump that was a nutjob and is now pulling up in Restricted p2p's in Yorkshire.

Disappointed by Alpha DB the other day but sure he'll come good in time.

Time may prove me wrong and it wont be the first time but Gigginstown seem to have incredible faith in Mouse Morris.....I cant for the life of me work out how he is held in such high regard.....
On another note Barry unearthed yet another dud yesterday at Thurles in the bumper.....and then splashed out 150k for a bigger one at the sales.....Gerry Hogan again getting the nod.....good man Gerry.....

How much hand-wringing is going on over Fenton? I haven't the foggiest notion but what % of Irish trainers are whispering "there but for the grace of god............"
Report paulie wallnuts October 24, 2014 3:18 PM BST

His bumper one Tycoon Prince is interesting today,Moon Racer has really franked the form across channel recently, looked a big immature horse on debut. Up against a fit Mullins one who impressed at Listowel,so a tough looking task.
Albert Bartlett winner Very Wood goes in the beginners, always liked him and looks a chaser, very short today, decent enough rivals in The Job is Right and Ancient Sands, just a watch for me.

Noel Meade's year kind of hinges on him in a lot of ways. Surprised he is out so early but as said, he is petrified of Willie Mullins. You'd suspect Briar Hill was the horse to take from the 3 miler. Pipe's thing will probably run in that 50k 3 mile brush hurdle handicap at Haydock in November, usually a very good race won by Diamond Harry (Nick williams), Grands Crus, Dynaste in the past. That will tell us a lot about where the Bartlett form is.

I read on irishracing.com that willie is thinking about the rsa for him, I think that would be a huge mistake. Presumably he is already lining up vautour and un de sceaux for the other two novice chases. It would be a disgrace to run him in that race, he doesn't look a 3 miler to me and he is still very young.

Hopefully O Leary won't put up with the sort of nonsense that went on around un de sceaux last year but not many question King Mullins at the moment. I hope to god they don't run him in the Rsa as it could ruin him and he's a potential superstar as everyone saw today.

Cooper is 6/1 with Hills to be the top Cheltenham Festival jockey. This is an astonishingly big price in my opinion considering Gigginstown have the favourites for the Neptune and Albert Bartlett and second favourites for the RSA, JLT, Ryanair, Stayers and Gold Cup. The likes of Gordon Elliott and Tony Martin are also likely to get one two well handicapped in time for the handicaps whereas the big trainers - the likes of which Walsh, Geraghty and Twiston-Davies will be relying upon for rides - do not often have so well handicapped horses bar maybe the odd novice now and again.
