Pethers looks a cracking bet to me today at just over 3-1. Although he has found it hard to win at times, he has bagged two of his last 3, and now that he has found the key, there is nothing in here to be worried about.

Encke is 5lb better off for his Goodwood defeat to PM, but to my eye PM won rather cosy that day. Hughes cajoling an effort out of him, rather than throwing everything at him. It should be closer today, but I cant understand the huge difference in price between the two. I would actually make PW slight fav. Hughes not being on board is obviously a slight negative, but Pat Dobbs is a very able and underarted deputy.

They both should handle conditions but Parish Hall probably won't appreciate the rain on all known form. Encke is entitled to improve from being off for 2 years before Goodwood and probably did in the Irish leger. I think Encke will be very difficult to beat but I can see your point of view and he has contracted since. GL

Cheers.

Irish Leger was a very funny race, I wouldnt read much into what happened there at all. Though Encke obviously didnt run to form today.

Has the Melbourne Cup been touted for PM at all? Think he would be ideal for it. They have gone a quicker, more even gallop in it in recent years. Could be right up his street.

Road to Riches looks an odds on shot to me in 4.45, and 2.3 looks well worth an investment.

I know Sizing Europe won at Punch, but he looked a horse in decline beforehand and now we are heading towards another birthday for the old warrior. Its also debatable what he actually achieved at Punch, as Hidden Cyclone fell, more or less bringing down Module. Somersby didn't run his race, and Ballnagour probably was slightly over the top. So who do you rate the race through??

Baily Green had a poor enough season after promising plenty as a novice, and today will probably be more of a sighter than the actual plan.

If Road to Riches jumps like he did at Galway, I doubt they will see which way he goes.

Unlike some, I have no worries about the man on board either!!

He threw some leap at the last. I thought we would win 20 lengths 4 out. Life in the old dog yet!!

Couldn,t give Shield away beforehand, went from 4.3 to 8ish and never put in the race.(5.20).
Don't know how Road to Riches got beat, credit to Sizing for staying on so gamely.

That 2.40 @ Ascot is after costing me a 4 fold accumulator and a shot at another four fold accums and one 5 fold for about €20,000.

2.40 Encke @ 11/8
2.55 Local time @ 7/2 (R4)
4.05 Aloft @ SP
5.30 Stetchworth @ 7/2
7.30 Tinghir @ 3/1

€33000 matched 1.01 on AP there

Haven't looked at that 7.30 too much but his last run was very likeable, well backed now, while not the jackpot you have probably a decent sweat all the same.
