ted is a class A pr!ck, his only concern is for himself and family to stay on gravy train as long as possible.

Ted knows very little about racing KR. He gets by with his outspoken attitude, and the odd funny. But the odd funny usually stems from stupidity. Most who know anything about racing would be laughing at him rather than with him.

I very much doubt he is anything other than a cantankerous ould git off camera. Some outbursts over the years when he didn't realise he was on air would cement this belief.

Yes he does provide entertainment, but on the whole it is laughing at him rather than with him.

Alistair Down is in a different league. Highly intelligent, he knows his racing inside out. A serious journalist who can make the hairs stand with his deliveries, and on air can set the scene like no other.

I would agree with Vubiant. Its a bit rich for people on a betting forum of all places to be lambasting someone for trying to earn a few quid especially if they are/have been NH jockeys. Ted comes across as a bit thick but when people call a spade a spade they will not be liked.

How is Ted Walsh a bit thick ?

He speaks his mind which annoys plenty on here.

He is a great commentator with a huge knowledge of horse racing.

He was previously a great amateur rider for many years with plenty of Cheltenham successes and many Irish titles.

He was an equally good trainer with a career yielding him a Grand National an Irish Grand National and a host of other big chase winners including a sprinkling of flat winners.

He also has a lovely talented family of which he should be proud.

Trained a winner at the Cheltenham festival too. Commanche Court. Trained Rince Ri. High class 3 mile chaser. Doing ok with Foxrock who should do well this season over staying trips when the mud is flying . Seems a decent auld stick and certainly knows his horses inside out although his comment on Sunday was like putting two fingers up to the punter. Bit like the majority of the jockeys in the leger. Not his finest moment!

He is entertaining KR, and has come out with some crackers. But John McCririck could be termed entertaining too. But he was completely clueless about racing.

Ted is not thick, nor did I say he was, but that a few of his 'funnies' often stem from a faux pas rather than intended wit.

Himself and Robert Hall are League of Ireland compared to some racing presenters.

He has indeed a fine record as both a pilot and trainer, but that was not what KR asked. He asked who was better at the job he does on RTE. Alistair Down in my opinion is far superior. I picked him as he is of a similar vintage. Nick Luck, Graham Cunningham, Gary O'Brien, even Kevin Ryan are far more adept at reading a race and relaying there thoughts on it than Ted.

I have no gripe with the Walshes, though I don't like Ruby. A superb talent in the saddle, but not the Golden Boy many make him out to be. Far from it indeed. If he took a leaf out of APs book as to how to conduct himself when not performing for the camera, he would be doing well.

Gary O'Brien is very good.  All he misses is a twinkle in the eye and a bit of divelemnt.  For that reason, I love to see Kevin O'Ryan or Chappers at an Irish track.

He's a great man Ted ... "Well done Tony, Hard luck Ted" were his words after the Paddy Power Chase. I thought he was very gracious in defeat on live television straight away after the race.

What do you expect him to say.
You never heard him slate Paul Nichols on air but could be heard calling him a f**king mongrel in background a couple of years ago.
I'd say he was cursing tony martin in private.

I agree kavvie, it got very tight at one stage alright. I wouldn't change the result though.

Good analysis by Ted there though I thought, gave a great insight about an situation like that.

Cooper gave Davy a bit of a lesson in race riding, squeezed him up and didn't give him an opportunity to use his whip properly.
Excellent ride by the young pretender, even though I backed JETSON.

Think JETSON will turn the tables on Lieutenant Colonel (who had the advantage of a run in Naas prior to the Hatton's Grace).

Still think JETSON is the better horse AND Brian better watch his back in future if Davy is in the room BUT Excellent horsemanship !

TW can certainly train but like his son he wouldn't be suggesting anything to improve racing if it wasn't going to benefit him.
