Its a beautiful looking course alright Frank, lets just hope the weather plays fair.

Rory is again rightfully favourite, but once again I have to take him on, and am more confident about getting him beat this week. He is a shorter price than he was at Valhalla, where the course was an ideal set up for him. His driving will need to be more accurate here than it was there, because this rough will be penal. If he drives like he did at Bridgestone it probably doesn't matter though!!

One man who wont want to see Rorys name anywhere on the leaderboard on Sunday, is Sergio Garcia. He could of had himself a serious late Summer in different circumstances, but instead was a perennial bridesmaid. But what it shows is he is playing golf good enough to win these events, and I would not worry about his below form effort at Valhalla where he just isn't comfortable.

Second here in 2008, in an admittedly poor enough field, he will relish the prospect of returning, and given his current form, its hard to see how he wont go very close. Its just a matter of whether he can get it done. He deserves one.

Another who has threatened Major success many times of late is Henrik Stenson. He was disappointing down the stretch in Valhalla and was visibly disappointed, but he is a strong character and can shrug that off to take a prominent showing here. The premium on accurate driving will suit his 3 wood down to the ground, and if he putts as well as he did in the final major, he will take some stopping.

Martin Kaymer is a bloody massive price, and though he has been slightly out of sorts in recent events, he just has to backed at the prices. Its not so long since he was imperious in the US Open, and some of the players priced at similar prices simply aren't fit to lace his boots.

Lee Westwood has found form with a vengeance, and its quite conceivable that he will continue in such a vein for the rest of the year. At his best he should have been nowhere near 80-1 for this, and my guess is that his best is what we are going to see from now til years end. He may chuck it away, he will no doubt infuriate, but equally 20-1 a place is superb value. No Clerk, I wont trade out this time either!!

I don't like backing Paul Casey. One he is a bottler, and two I cant stand the arrogant obnoxious git. But I really fancy him for this, and at 100-1 I have had to put my hatred to one side for a week!! He was on the bubble last week, as to whether he would make it in. He performed quiet well under that pressure. A final round 72 on Sunday here in 2008 scuppered his chances of winning, but he could give himself a chance to make amends this time around, and looks well worthy of support.

I had intended backing Brandt Snedeker, but laziness ensured I missed the early prices, and he looks a shade short now. Have also thought long and hard about backing defending champion Adam Scott. He has been disappointing of late, putting like a blind man. When he gets the wand working again, he will be winning again.

The 11-4 on Westwood top 20, and 4-1 Casey in the same market are crying out to be backed.

1.5pt e.w Sergio Garcia 22-1
2pt e.w Henrik Stenson 16-1
.3pt e.w Martin Kaymer 100-1
.4pt e.w Lee Westwood 80-1
.4pt e.w Paul Casey 100-1

6pts Westwood Top 20 11-4
4pts Casey Top 20 4-1

Running Total......+25.25pts

GL all.

Betfair sportsbook have top prices in 5 of the top 7 with the books,a small little offer they are doing is a free £5 in play bet for a pre tournament £10 win or £5 ew,not a lot i know but nothing to stop you doing the same player again,ie £5 ew on say Stenson normally returns £110 but with using concession quickly £190,just a starting point as most people would be probably punting more.
Little course form to go on as they don't play it here every year, went with Stenson ew as well on his Valhalla performance, doing a few small stake long shots on here as well. GL.

Only a field of 125 though Apple. But, yeah, little effort being made. Corals have upped their game significantly. Chalking up fist consistently, and over the odds on a few each wk.

I HAD A GOOD BET ON KEYMER AND WESTWOOD the odds on both are to good not to, IF both are there coming up to the last day laying both could be the way to go.
Report callitasucit August 20, 2014 12:24 AM BST
I certainly wouldn't lay Kaymer in contention. More bottle than most...maybe anyone.
Report BigRob1 August 20, 2014 11:45 AM BST
Boyles offering cash back if your player is 2nd or 3rd including ties is a very decent offer.up to €100
Report frank60 August 20, 2014 1:20 PM BST
Its hard to belive that kaymers price is 5times more then that of stenson, scott, serigo,i know that he has,nt been great of late but as you say callit he has the bottle if he gets it right.

The Boils offer is the best out there atm.

Got money back for Garcia in the Open.
Report applehunter August 20, 2014 6:29 PM BST
If I can get 65's on Schwartzel I'll be pleased. Played consistently well since coming back from a break and should go well again.

Zach Johnson, Mahan & Bill Haas also in my mind.

5 picks for me @ the Barclays:

Adam Scott 14/1
In consistently good form all year and surely will get another win sooner or later.

Henrik Stenson 16/1
Will be disappointed not to break the major duck this year esp having come so close @ Valhalla but wil still want to retain form going into the Ryder cup so strong showing should be on the cards.

Phil Mickelson 25/1
Has burst into form last few weeks having played poorly all year. Will be keen to play well in the event backed by his sponsor also.

Graeme McDowell 50/1
This course demands strong short game prowess and that will suit GMac down to the ground who is number 1 for putting stats.

John Senden 150/1
Another player who excels on courses which reward straight hitters and good short game players. Played well in two previous renewals of this event @ this course in 2008 and 2010 and could go well.

Good luck lads.

I added a couple of more longshots to the team. Brendon Todd and Kevin Streelman are two fine tee to green operators. I believe the winning score here wont be any better than -10, and both of these players revel on the tougher layouts. Todd in my opinion is going to be a major contender in the next few years, and Streelman has excellent course form and is on record as saying he loves the place. Both could reward e.w support at big prices.

.3pt e.w Kevin Streelman 100-1
.3pt e.w Brendon Todd 125-1

Damien McGrane, yet to tee off in the Czech Open, is a massive price at 170 on the machine.

Jimmy Walker is worthy of support in his 3 ball bout against the all conquering Rory McIroy and the big baby that is Bubba Watson.

Rory has been enjoying himself, and rightly so, the last two weeks. Practise will not have been on the agenda until arriving at Ridgewood, and given the course would not be his favourite set up, its quite feasible he may have an average round. Bubba was a disgrace at the USPGA, showing what sort of petulant spoilt pr*ck he is. He too wont be in love with the tight fairways and penal rough. He could again throw in the towel rather early.

Walker has been at or near the top of the FedEx standings since Day One, and one feels that these next four events are his majors. He is relishing the challenge, and I expect him to get off to a good start.

2.5pts Jimmy Walker 11-4 1st Rd 3 ball(1.26pm tee off)

Fine feat from Henrik Stenson today. Parred the first 17 holes, bogeys the last. But in doing so he managed to miss 17 consecutive putts for birdie from inside 30ft, most of them considerably shorter. Stevie fuc*in wonder would have holed one o them surely!!
Report callitasucit August 22, 2014 12:38 AM BST
Had a little top up on Kaymer at 190. Played far better than his level par score suggests. Quite conceivable he could be within 3 of the lead after play tomorrow.

Pity about Scotts 65. I would rather he didn't win this week!! Todd going well, his bottle still has to be proved, but I'm very hopeful about him. Great round from Rory. If he wins this, even I will believe!!

Report callitasucit August 24, 2014 12:34 AM BST
WTF was Stenson at!! Shambles of a round.

Todd missed two short putts at 17 & 18. Hopefully can keep the head tomorrow. Those ahead and around him are far from bullet proof in a finish. Sneaky feeling Paul Casey could yet be involved.

Backed hunter Mahan and Kuch 13/2 and 11/1,god some amount of golfers in the running for the golf tonight,
Report callitasucit August 24, 2014 6:12 PM BST
Still hopeful of Brendon Todd mounting a challenge, but the 3-1(or 4.3) on here is a good bet as it stands.

There is a bounty of bottlers at the head of the table. Day is not exempt from this, but he may have less scars than a few of them.

Furyk couldn't win from a much better position a few weeks ago, and seems to have forgotten how. Kuch has never impressed in the last year or so when under the cosh. Mahan is a pure bottler. Who does that leave??

Todd! He has to prove he has the metal for it himself, and i will think Day might just outgrind them tonight, and is certainly worth backing.

5pts Jason Day 3-1

Good man Huddys, delighted you had a good one.
Bit disappointed with Donaldson that he cried for an animal scrape when clung up against a tree, probably would have won it besides but he went way down in my estimation.
