Long have I been saying the handicapper doesn't review races but does it solely by ratings.
During Galway he spotted an obvious mistake and tried to rectify it.
The Dermot Weld trained Aga Khan owned Timiyan ran in here maidens,dwelt in them but they were over 8 9 and 7 furlongs,he originally gave him a mark of 77 but once he saw him entered in a 12 furlong handicap he tried to withdraw the mark,this was met with a ferocious response and the shadow of men in wigs ensures craven capitulation.
Timiyan ran off his mark of 77 result a five length win.
The handicapper knows he was fooled he even anticipated it for once yet when he gets the chance to rectify the rick he doesn't.
He raised him 16 pound but as that's what he should have been off in the first place hardly a raise at all,result another 4 length win in Gowran.
The handicapper should at least go through the motions and go to the races.

You saying the horse should have run off 93 in Galway. So? What are you smoking?
Most maiden winners wouldn't get a mark of 93 never mind a horse with his runs. You could say 77 was harsh enough looking at his three runs!
He was let go off. Big enough price for both his wins for a Weld horse in Galway. Just looking at the dam, she was best over 9f so there was no guarantee that the step up to 12f would have helped being by an American Sire who usually are a speed influence.

Massinga won off 95 last night after her maiden win and was 8/11 the punters knew she was well in.
We'll they didn't know that the weld horse was well handicapped at Galway considering the price it went off. Would have gone off 2/1 or user if they knew!

He had no justification to raise his mark before the handicap run. He got a harsh enough mark for what he had done. Combination Doubt you or a lot of people myself included backed the horse in Galway so it wasn't that obvious that he was so well in. So many better examples you could have picked. No Cash Flow today has 20-30 pounds in hand
This is the only time I can recall the handicapper trying to withdraw a mark already given,that made it the only example I could give.
As far as I am aware the handicapper tried to withdraw the mark under a recently introduced and never previously used rule regarding horses running in handicaps over a very different trip than those the got their mark over.After "discussion" it was decided not to implement the rule first time mid season but instead make all trainers aware of it and implement it at the end of the year.
Two questions spring to mind.
If it were Joe Bloggs trainer at a mickey mouse midweek meeting who objected to the withdrawal of the mark who it have been reinstated?
Did you take advantage of the handicapper's generosity wildman??
