I would not watch it, is it not a case of the kettle calling the pot black?
Report Kelly July 29, 2014 12:07 PM BST
No , not the way I see it , irish guy .  Kimmange transgressed , but admitted it . Then when he thought about it he wants to clean the sport completely , largely because its his first love and he has seen the damage caused by drugs --20 or so young riders have died since his book was published .

I cant see why all the cyclists cant see how much better their sport would be without drugs .  But I suspect its the "professionalism" which drives those who want their riders to gain advantage which reigns . Its the shady men with syringes who are the real problem , time to dump them all . The sad thing is there are probably only about 500 riders anywhere in the world taking significant drug enhancement , but unfortunately they are at the spearhead of the  cycling game .

Cycling is not the only sport tainted by drug enhancement . Athletics has had its ( on going) problems , and I suspect there are a few other sports where it has not surfaced .
Report the jolly July 29, 2014 12:09 PM BST
if you watched it, you would have seen that that was definitely not the case. Kimmage has had to endure a lot of sh01te from the cycling fraternity over the past 2 decades for asking the hard questions. Was on the brink of bankruptcy last year with the case UCI were taking against him until McQuaid was ousted.  Cycling owes the likes of Kimmage and Walsh a huge gratitude but unlikley they will ever receive it.

I thought it was an excellent documentary, and have huge respect and admiration for Kimmage, who risked friendships, his career, and financial well being to try and sort out a corrupt sport. Well done I say.

absolutely brilliant documentary really enjoyed watching it

Kimmage has no interest in the sport. Him and Walsh have made a career on Armstrong. Walsh must be on his 7th book now. He has constantly blamed individual cyclists whilst placing little emphasis on the sport as a whole. Walshs fawning over team sky is nauseating.
Report Roger De Bris July 29, 2014 4:15 PM BST
To go as far as he did in the sport shows he had some talent.

Sometimes when you realise your dream is not possible unless you take the chemicals everyone else is on, the only other option is to try it, and see how it affects your body.

Obviously he didn't feel happy with the results. Something that happens a lot of the good guys in sport.

He shared his experiences in his book. If everybody kept the omerta code, none of the dirty sport would be revelaed.

He took the brave man's route, and not the cheaters and liars route, unlike the other top Irish cyclists who took the gear, the honours, and hid behind the lies.

Looks like this thread wont last too long, reasonable post (by his own standards) from WMFB just pulled.

Thought it could have been a bit better, looks like the legal boys had a big input into what was shown and said during it. No explanation as to what happened to his relationship with David Walsh, even though some people seem to know the reason behind their falling out.
Report wildmanfromborneo July 29, 2014 4:45 PM BST
Seems they are all terrified of him.

Doesn't half fall out with people.

Steven Roche came out of it well, travelled over to his wedding and in an act of extraordinary generosity worked him on the quiet a Grand in cash.
Report Kelly July 29, 2014 6:13 PM BST
Kimmage wrote his book before Armstrong came on the scene .

I never comment on Roche or Kelly or any of the other cyclists personally  , Armstrong excepted as his behaviour has become a matter of record .  We all cheered them home , them and other winners of big events on the world stage . Probably cheered Kimmage too betimes .

His comments re Tommy Simpson were interesting  , flawed hero memorial etc .

Enjoyed it. A very passionate and independent individual. He's not looking for people to like him. Entertaining verbal interaction between himself and his partner too; clearly been through a lot together in the last 25 years but the emotional bond is still there.
Report wildmanfromborneo July 29, 2014 9:02 PM BST
Swearing at your wife may be entertaining verbal interaction in Rebs world but not in mine.

I would hate to see how he treats her when the cameras are off.

Excellent documentary,PK is like a dog with a bone.It is sad to see how he has changed from a happy go lucky guy,to a cynical even grumpy perhaps, middle aged man.

I thought the interview with Floyd Landers?? was particularly revealing.

I liked Pauls fathers cynical remark with his arm around his sons shoulder he said..sure was,nt Paul the perfect child born into an imperfect world,Grin. great viewing no matter who you side with.

I think the phase glossing over is a bit hard Wildman, what ever you might think about Kimmage he never held back what he belived in ,he most likely does,nt get many christmas cards from past friends come december, but i think he sleeps better then most of them.
Report punchestown July 30, 2014 5:04 PM BST
Kimmage had a big problem when Walsh was "embedded" with the Sky Team on last years tour (2013) and he (Walsh) seemed to believe everything Sky told him about Froome and his methods.
Report Kelly July 30, 2014 6:39 PM BST
Its going to take a long time to convince the general public that cycling at the top level is completely clean ( if and when it is) . That may be unfortunate for the sport , but if you make your bed you must lie on it .
Report G Hall July 30, 2014 10:38 PM BST
I can't help but wonder,if PK had been as successful as roche and Kelly had in the early stages of his pro career,ie won a stage of the tour, and been a serious contender to win it outright, would he have taken the road he has,or would he have done the same as the rest of them.

Chris Froome is a sort of an enigma, very difficult to make judgement, but for me extremely hard to believe what I saw.
Report wildmanfromborneo July 31, 2014 7:52 AM BST
He was a quitter who suffered from " low morale "

His main achievement was finishing seventh in a stage.

That was some fair ignorant ascent up Alpe D'Huez.
Report frank60 July 31, 2014 1:14 PM BST
If Chris Froome is telling fibs he should get an oscar ,the same could be said of Michelle Smith when she won her gold medals in 1996,they get so good at lying they almost Believe them selfs,,The womens world records in track and field have big question marks as well , have a look at some of the world records and how long they stand.

was looking for it on the rte player. Can't see it?
Report Kelly July 31, 2014 3:54 PM BST
Those 1980's records on the track are definitely associated with fuel additives in some form . It must be hard on current athletes having to run with little chance of breaking any sort of records , must make them feel inferior .
Report frank60 July 31, 2014 4:47 PM BST
Kelly why do you think they are tempted to take drugs,; i know the powers that be are making inroads to stop drug takeing but the rewards for winning are very big .
Report KIMBLE July 31, 2014 4:51 PM BST
anyone got a link to a torrent. ta
Report punchestown July 31, 2014 5:27 PM BST
Apparently not being put up on RTE Player as they hope to show this in the Movies,Froome with his inhaler in season has all the hallmarks of a familiar story.
