I would presume its an Olympic team because of the 24 years and I would think its a mens US basketball team.

very good tolmi..it must be ..?
|

I have heard the question before so won't pretend to have figured it out but it's a bit of a trick question because the vast majority of the games were exhibition events.

Right sport but wrong team so..Harlem Globetrotters?
|

By:
That is the answer that I have heard previously Tolmi but Wildman could have a different answer as the reference to circumstances could relate to unbeaten records that stretch through WW2 or the boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

welldone tolmi and dj,..had me stumped..

I suppose it was in a way a trick question.
I asked it because we were discussing Luis Suarez earlier. Its the Uruqayan football team in the World Cup. They won the inaugural event in 1930 refused to travel in 1934 and 1938 played in the next one in Brazil in 1950 which they won. They went to Switzerland in 1954 met the Magnificent Magyars in the semi final,a match regarded as a classic which they lost in extra time 4-2. |

Very good question...
|
|
By:
are you sure they didn't lose a match inbetween the world cup matches
|
|
By:
Not that it matters but it was a terribly phrased question which was exacerbated by the fact that the period of time was identical to the correct answer,1971-1995.
Of course they were beaten in the intervening period (multiple times in the Cop America) but "circumstances" should have apparently indicated that it related to exclusively their World Cup record. |

It was badly phrased but I just put it up because the World Cup was on and Uruquay were in the news.
The word circumstances meant in a specific way, still that 1954 semi final was the first World Cup match Uruquay ever lost. |
