Not his biggest fan but fair play to him for making the effort to get to Fota the week after the US open.

Concerned that Kelly might self-combust with excitement.

McIroy be the most indecisive man in history!  What are the odds on him changing his mind again before the event?  The more you hear about him, the bigger the gobsh1te he looks.  It's not as though he is short of advisors either.

Still we might have a chance of a gold!

Rory is our Mr Kimble.

Ozy , Rorys affiliation flag wise is of little concern to me .  There are a few of my countrymen who DO have a big thing about Rory's perceived Britishness , something I have never bought into .  Both Rory's parents are "Taigs" , and his uncle played for Armagh seniors GAA . Apart from his love for Man U I have never detected any love from him for those across the water , in fact he has occasionally displayed negative thoughts in that regard sportingwise .

Well played Rory , thats possibly 2 good decisions in a row , but golf is unlike other team sports , its down to the specific individual and the scores they produce . Needs to sort out his putting though , have a sneaking suspicion its eye related , not many golfers at that level wear the type of glasses Rory was sporting recently .

I thought we had that conversation before, and contrary to your assertion, someone came on an pointed out that one of his parents (Father?) was Protestant, could be wrong, that's my recollection.

Not that it really matters.

Is there a team event in Olympics?  HAave heard the golf course is a bit of a joke.
Report Kelly June 18, 2014 3:00 PM BST
Sure I am right  ,Ozy , we dont make mistakes like that up here .  Used to be it might have cost you your life .  Fairly sharpens the senses that criteria .

The golf will only be a side show Olympic wise .  Its all to do with funding at lower levels for the sport world wide .

rory is a human being like everyone else and i despise this human categorisation according to religion.............look whats happening in iraq re all this sunni shia nonsense..........................rory is a good lad and is doing us a massive favour by playing for ireland............we need sports stars.
Report workrider June 18, 2014 6:47 PM BST
Kelly , hes a northern lad lives up there , would have you believe he's ABROAD though ...Sorry for delay replying , broadband went down for a couple of hours..

Out of respect for Rory's decision to declare for Ireland , I will be backing him , he'll have the crowd on his side and the momentum will carry him to victory I believe...
Report Kriskin June 18, 2014 8:35 PM BST
Rory has always carried an Irish pass board.  GMac the same.  There was NEVER any doubt that he would be representing his country at the 2016 Olympics

Report Ozymandius June 19, 2014 12:23 AM BST
This is what he said at the time when he hinted he was likely to declare for Team GB;

"Maybe it was the way I was brought up, I don’t know, but I have always felt more of a connection with the UK than with Ireland"
Report Ozymandius June 19, 2014 12:26 AM BST
Lets hope the twerp doesn't make the team, would serve him right.

Give me Lowry any day...with a belly like that there is no mistaking he is 100% Irish.

Shane likes to wear black in the shering sun as well, helps to hide the belly.Blush

rorys allegiance is to the golfing union of ireland, not to the republic of ireland as a country so lets not get confused.rory considers himself very much northern irish and therefore british also.
Report Kelly June 19, 2014 11:49 AM BST
The term "Northern Irish " and "British" are not mutually inclusive . I consider myself Northern Irish simply because of history , and the fact that the "Southern Irish " decided we were somewhat different to them and not worth the big effort needed to make the island one again politically .

But when I leave Northern Ireland to go south or west I fit seamlessly into the rest of Ireland  , and I have the cupla focal which helps although it confuses the Kerry people ( Donegal accent presumably where my irish teachers learnt their craft ).

Rory lived in a part of Northern Ireland not known to be too sympathetic to Shinner politics , a good few well heeled "Taigs" living there , but none economically or career restricted . Man is a product of his environment often , so lets cut Rory a bit of slack and be glad he has done the proper thing and supported the local ( All-Ireland island organised ) golfing scene . And his school options decreed he went to Sullivan Upper , particularly as any "religiously inclined" alternatives would have restricted his golfing time considerably .  And his passport did say " golfer" from an early age .

Report dermo79 June 19, 2014 1:03 PM BST
find it hard to get excited about this, golf like tennis is not a true Olympic sport...Wimbledon, Augusta etc are what matter in those codes, Olympic champ in tennis who cares..same will apply for golf
Report brain dead jockeys June 19, 2014 10:31 PM BST
if rory considers himself british, then good for him. many rugby players consider themselves british and have played for ireland....................WHO CARES.
