wr the middletown park hotel in middletown is about 10mins away mate,reasonable room rates aswell

Surprisingly they still have rooms at the Fota resort itself, fri and sat nights.  350 gbp for 2 nights.

You could hob nob with the player, Wonks and be in the thick of the action!

* luxurious shower facilities and international direct dialing come as standard.

I looked up the Fota Island Hotel about 4 months ago, and they had it up as booked out from Thursday on. Told the missus we would go to the local instead!!

Must be some late availability.

You'd have to bring the Missus Wonks. The Spa there is quite posh..she could live it up like Bubbles Devere.

Meself and herself looked up a long weekend when it was announced as well(Callit spot on about 4 months ago) and we thought the room prices were saucy enough then and overpriced.
We left it. 1 double room in Garnish house 4star for fri and sat night for a little over E200 according to laterooms(most fully booked).Thats within walking distance to centre but a little bit out all the same,maybe Richters has the right tack and going over the other side so to speak.
Fota only 15/20 minute drive from city centre and frequent trains down there if not driving.

Well lads, heading down to this on Sat myself. First time watching live golf. Anyone got any advice to best experience the day, be it at Fota itself or just in general? Time to arrive at? Follow a group or a good spot to watch them all go thru? Cheers

wr stay in the city.go on trivago.com.  there will be lots of places at reasonable prices.. short hop out to fota..

wr there is a small hotel about an hour away from cork,the abbey hotel ballyvourney,great rates and food,you will have no prob getting into it mate,hope your irish is up to scratch tho

Booked Travel lodge limerick Ennis road ..Have you ever been Richters , looks ok ..Will go to golf on the Sat...

if you are at the races in Limerick...why on earth would you choose to stay out the Ennis Road en route to Cork?

Limerick racecourse halfway to Cork...Ennis Road is back through the city of Limerick and the far side of the Shannon...ok you have the tunnel now..but still!

no wr usually stay in town or else in ennis,its a handy run down into cork from limerick anyway mate,charleville,mallow......im actually in kilmallock myself this weekend,if i get finished up early i might make the limerick meeting.....

Would be a bit of fun to meet you Richters ...

Wonks......ozy is right.....cancel the hotel on the ennis road.....that's bonkers going out there.....if I were you id go to limerick and then head towards cork city that evening.....try silversprings....Radisson....even the ibis if you are looking for something more reasonable......all 3 would be very handy for fota.....

paulie the last i heard the ibis in glanmire was closed and was inhabited by asylum seekers mate......the silversprings or the vienna woods id say would be booked out.

didn't know that about the ibis.....you are more than likely right....and yes most hotels near the course will more than likely be booked ages ago....

jaysus lads ye all want to get geography lessons..limerick race track is about 7/8 miles max outside city...you would make the racetrack from the ennis road easily in 15 min!!

but paulies right.there lots of hotels nearer to the track..raddison a nice call.south court not bad either but hasnt  great reputation!!

If Paulie was being genuine he would recommend the Castlemartyr hotel,not far from where his boss bestrides the world like a collussus.

dan......castlemartyr would be very pricey....not sure the wonks would want to be parting with a monkey for the night......that's why I didn't suggest that place....some of the golfers themselves wouldn't pay that kind of money  for a hotel....

Workrider would pick that up on the first race,probably then head for Youghal dogs I hear there is a fearless new bookie operating there.

Enjoy your trip w/r, Im sure if you goggle a few  b/b in the area you should get fixed up, the Corkies are very hospitable people m8.p.s did you hear the one about the dublin saleman who is told he is being transfared to Cork; he looks at the boss and roars at him ;theres nothing but brassers and hurdlers in Cork , to which the boss replies  my wife is from cork, the dublin lad looks at him and says ; what position does she play,  ..a Cork man told me that story w/r.

kiddo112 - I'm not familiar with Fota so can't offer advice on optimal course vantage points.
From my own experience of 'gallerying' I would suggest the following ;

- A good plan is to station yourself near the green of a par 3. That way you see all the action developing at one hole
-I would stay there while maybe 5 or 6 groups come through... then to stretch your legs I would pick a group to follow -pick a few par 4s and a few par 5s for variety -maybe holes with a water issue which could be interesting -do players go for it or lay up etc.
-If you're younger and have good eyesight that's fine. I find that I lose the ball in flight and the best way to see the direction and effect of a stroke ( especially a drive) is from directly behind the ball.
-take a pair of binoculars -even a small pair can be a good aid.
-When you get there you can identify a place on the course where maybe the action on a couple of holes can be tracked from one location -ask a local for advice on this.
Whatever you do -have a nice one.

Frank , I better not tell that one when I'm there ...All sorted , so will just relax and enjoy the few days , no need for any hustle and bustle , I'll enjoy the drive and hopefully back a few winners as well ..Life is full of pressure...

Watch 9th and 18 green for a while then walk down 1st fairway then down 14th (in reverse) to the 13th green.
Good area to watch 13th, 10th and 12th greens all within easy viewing.
