It's cultural, that kind of spivvy behaviour is highly thought of in the Garlic Belt countries.

Doesn't particularly bother me, it is so ingrained now that refs expect and even factor it into decisions... eg. 'he got straight back up'....'didn't appeal' ie. that it is so commonplace that when it (playacting) doesn't occur the ref might not think there was a foul.

What Pepe did was wrong, Muller just highlighted it for the ref, it could nearly described as being professional.

As to whether the behavior is a bit poncey, sure, but these lads plough through enough glamour models that I doubt they spend much time contemplating their own masculinity and even less so how they are perceived by others in that respect.

I wouldn't say much to Mike McCarthy's face, as he would be able to beat the living **** out of me should he choose.

But do the powers that be ( who will go anywhere there is a brown envelope or freebies ) not realise that eventually the saner fans will turn to some other sport where this sort of behaviour does not happen and is not tolerated ?

Some fans accept it , workrider , others dont . Count me in the "others dont" , I used to be interested in soccer as it was a big part of life in the North , but the "professional" approach ruined the sport element largely . And the refusal of the authorities to move with the times and embrace technology is part of the problem .

Rugby has a citing procedure , where if someone misbehaves it can be reviewd and acted on .  Why does that not apply to soccer ? The divers should be banned for the rest of a tournament or equivalent , surely that would sort out the lie down activity .

As for the Honduran kicking brigade , who wants to see creativity being nullified by that . I remember Pele being scythed out of the World Cup in 1966 , but it suited certain teams so nothing happened .

I'm fully in tune with you Kelly , think we both come from that era of fairness ..Rugby have it spot on , punish the guilty on the spot ..Soccer is sadly way behind , as Frank and others have said , its all down to FIFA turning a blind eye , think time has finally caught up with their president , and about time ...
