Poignant day for remembering those who gave their lives and fought at that time . Did the "tour" about 4 years ago myself , anyone who has done that will never forget it . And all nations were involved , certainly I located many from this neck of the woods in the memorial graveyard in Ranville , where there were few visitors . Pegasus Bridge , just up the road from Ranville gets the headlines , but the fighting was around Ranville and 2500 died in a very small area over 2-3 days of serious action . Only 300 of them were German though , they must have had better positions .
There was the odd memorial in Irish too , despite non official involvement . Worth a visit , anyone who goes anywhere near Normandy should spend a day or two refreshing their memory or educating it .
Changed the world map post war that element of the war , without D-Day most of Europe would be tied umbilically to Russia , with all that involves as we see daily .
Plenty of coverage on BBC these last few days , but we should all remember it was a huge group effort from many nations using Britain as home base .
Angela got a better reception today than has been accorded to some German politicians years ago . Europe has changed like it or lump it , and the Germans are the best organised . Was in Germany last year , impressed by their set up and their no nonsense attitude to life . No Hitlers in evidence thankfully .

Sorry but I can never commemorate or respect Irishmen who fought for the British army. They are responsible for more mass murder, slavery, propaganda than Nazi Germany had ever done.

Preposterous claim when you consider that Nazi aggression in WW2 directly lead to a combined loss of life of a estimated 72 million people or 2.5% of the population at the time.
