Operating is due to be sold in a couple of days at Doncaster I think it is.......Couldn't think of a worse buy but you can sure the fact that it won a race at Punchestown........some clueless but greedy so called bloodstock agent.....will be able to con some unsuspecting victim into writing a cheque...... Very persuasive and also very good at spending other peoples money......are these bloodstock guru's...... The fact that it is fairly ground dependant......has been campaigned vigorously......and you can be sure has been trained hard by Harrington.....and is being sold by somebody who doesn't need the money..... will be ignored come the day of the sale..... Not sure who the favourite would be right now as there are plenty of runners with proven form.....but you'd be fairly sure an Irish ex jockey will be in the middle of it at some stage......
if buckley is selling paulie..then I doubt it,ll go for much money tbf?..no doubt someone will buy it..but it,ll be some one like waley cohen for him to ride in hunters..or during the summer..but I take your point..just don't think it,ll go for a lot of money..saying that..mossey joe?..lol..you may be right..especially if barry takes a shine to it..

Ground dependant becomes a summer horse Campaigned vigorously becomes a very sound horse.
He is a seven year old with little potential so will go for little, you could see him winning some small field summer chases at Newton Abbot or Taunton bet you he will be called a fun horse at some stage.

I wouldn't call a six figure sum in sterling very little.....he will make that.....well at least it will cost the mug that signs the cheque that much......

Mossie Joe could have been one of the great Irish staying chasers of his generation, if only he was at somewhere like Willie Mullins from the start. Don't think he even made the course till he was seven and then he was making piles of mistakes at Punchestown while still giving peak Sir Des Champs a little to think about. He was breathtaking at Stratford last season too hammering 140 rated horses, they just had his routine figured it seemed and then Connell went and switched trainers.
Tony, something bristles with me hearing Operating mentioned in the same sentence!!

Mossy Joe is as anybody who attends racing will know.....a very very fragile horse with countless problems.....the reason he didn't run until he was 7 is not because he was shy....... On his day like the day in Stratford he can be very useful.....but he has loads of indifferent runs as well.....and at 11 years of age he must go down in history as being one of the worst buys ever......For 160k stg which is around 200 euro.....the person who recommended him .......an ex jockey.....and the person who paid for him....well then they should have a good look at themselves .....its quite obvious both are clueless..... On top of that.....the horse was wrapped up in a dispute amongst the owners.....one which very few people wanted to get involved.....hardly surprising with his holier than thou attitude towards Philip Fenton.....fukked up both his horse and fenton and then will have to take it off him anyway in the finish.....

Paulie Wallnuts he won't make anything like six figures in sterling, doubt if he will make half that.
Mossy Joe was different in that he was a potential Cheltenham winner, still looked a crazy price to me but its his money entitled to spend it how he sees fit.

Wilddan......im disappointed in you......thought you had a better knowledge than that......id nearly buy him myself for 50k.....he will make six figures plus......of that you can be certain.....theres pointers making 300 k......what do you think a horse that won a 60k chase last time out is going to sell for.....30......

paulie, I spoke to a owner and trainer @Aintree on the Thursday (both irish)about barry purchase (mossey joe)and both shook there head and said it was stupid money for the horse..so paulie is spot on, as his view is held within racing as well as out...the topic came up as barry was 10 yards away from us..and the trainer said...he has more money than sense....but what does trouble me..is barry is not a stupid man..or he would not have what he has?..

Operating has no potential, there is no dream there he is just a handicapper.
Those Point to Point horses all have potential to win bumpers, novice hurdles beginners chases etcetera and to be champions.
Winning races can be against a horse that's for sale.
Will be interested to see what Operating will make,if he makes the six figures I will doff my cap to you and to the bloodstock guru who organised the deal.

Tony57 racing is littered with hard nosed brilliant business men turning into blithering idiots when it comes to racing ( Graham Wylie )
Betting rings used to be littered with brilliant intelligent businessmen being cleaned out by semi illiterate bookies with some native cunning.
Take any man out of his field of expertise and he will struggle.

Wilddan is 100% correct in what he is saying......to use I think a name he gave to one famous bookmaker.....otter head....I must admit I had never heard it.....but I could see the likeness.....he always maintained that the bigger success they made of their own business.....the bigger the mug they were when it came to gambling.....and most likely its the same in picking out horses....as opposed to backing them.....after all you are betting your opinion in both cases......

thank you for the vote of confidence by purpose......its nice to know that at least one person is on the same wavelength as myself..... had a look at the sale and all in all it was an ordinary collection.....plenty of horses coming from trainers who wouldn't leave a lot to work on.....the best value I could see was 20k for take a bow which was bought by Lawney Hill....I know you could say its Henderson and Buckley.....but its only 5....has very few runs....would have won in Ffos Las if Geraghty rode it.....likes summer ground and stays well.....the form of its last run was boosted only 2 days ago as well.....id say it was a shrewd enough purchase... Now for the worst and its the 15k paid for the 10yo Mackeys Forge......the purchaser Bobby o Ryan.....well he must have been under a rock for the last 5 years.....that yoke isn't worth a tin of beans.....not to mind 15k.....how could any self respecting supposed bloodstock agent have anything to do with the purchase of Mackeys Forge.....

lookit like most on here ive had my fair share of run ins with paulie but it is clear for all to see that the man knows the game inside out....another word just on the price of horse,mr ricci paid near 200k for a horse from county down not 4 weeks ago after a point win at oldcastle.....but then again he was like mr drumm in that they were getting millions of pounds of bonuses and pensions from the banks they fronted, all approved by both former and present ministers,so really they can buy what equine talent that they see fit....

when did buying racehorses have anything to do with value for money?
the main point of paulie's thread was to forecast some fraud from an agent and the end result proved him wrong. Presumably McCain has bought for some of his well-heeled patrons so they are all fools?

Apparently Take A Bow was crippled lame in the ring. The vendor gave an unusual guarantee that if an independent vet examined it in a fortnight and failed it the sale would be cancelled. Most purchasers were put off by the lameness.
