ONE £8 punter came agonisingly close to a life-changing £6.8 million Scoop6 payout on Saturday afternoon but the final leg selection, the aptly named Escape To Glory, finished a heartbreaking second - causing the bet to roll over for a 12th week and Betfred to predict next weekend's pool could reach £15m.
With the first five winners returning at 20-1, 8-1, 16-1, 6-1 and 14-1 punters found it tricky, but three tickets survived all the upsets and made it through to the final leg - the 4.00 at Thirsk - with Escape To Glory, Capaill Liath and Justonefortheroad covered.
But there was to be no success story as Escape To Glory, who was matched at 1.01 in running, failed to repel Llanarmon Lad, who - in keeping with the rest of the Scoop6 race winners - did not leap off the page as an obvious contender, returning at 16-1.
Shame as it wasn't a big syndicate. Thats an 8c ew lucky 63 Roger for the 8E stake roughly, know what you mean though,it would still be miles better than what he ended up with.

Now , if you were holding the ONLY ticket for a huge win on the last horse in the Jackpot , would you not be filling up your Betfair account with a big graduated lay of the horse in running . I know I would . And if it touched 1.01 ( no idea why ) you would have expected to be having a big loss on B/F .
Long ago there used to be a lot of trade for the bookies when the Irish Sweepstake tickets were drawn . 25 grand or so in the forties would have been worth how much nowadays ?

IF you did,nt have a betfair a/c you would,nt have much time between the 5th and the 6th leg of the scoop 6 to set one up, the 8 quid punter would indicate he was,nt a big player Kelly, he most likely telling his m8s in work this morning about the bad luck he had. but i hope your right kelly ... Escape To Glory he wont forget that name for a while.

€8 punter though Kelly. Didn't watch the first four races, checked results. Very much doubt he would have had the available funds to be lobbing into betfair to lay off.
What price do you choose for in running.....if you put in 1.2, and it done at 1.22, you're even sicker.

Its amazing that all assume you would put an in running lay at the lowest price laid, this is Roadrunner stuff.
The skill is to try and predict what a horse may touch in running and its not easy.
All the 1.01 backers are robots so deserve no sympathy, they have substantial amounts in their accounts and are generally laying beaten horses or ones that have fallen.
The last leg of the bet was probably around 14 on here so the holder of the ticket would have to have access to vast sums to get anything out of it.

It would be different if the last leg was favourite, some judicious laying would be warranted. We could finally find a use for Paulie Wallnuts, getting him to do it would be the easy bit, collecting could be a lot harder.

not easy trying to workout what price a horse might hit IR, especially if its a front runner or a hold up horse if you think this guy is unlucky imagine how feel, my notebooks should of made me a millionaire by now. suppose im lucky though, this guy will only get one chance

If there were a thread on hard luck stories we would all be well able to contrabute , one that comes to mind for myself was backing Adam Scot at 45/1 for 4figure return sum in the Open a few years back, but i dont think there would be to many foremites you have a hard luck story to beat this scoop 6 one. thats the point of this thread lads.

I suggested it would have been judicious to put in a GRADUATED lay . That would depend on the state of your account etc , got caught out myself one Saturday ( banks not open and I dont trust on line banking) . Had a lot of money running onto a 6/1 shot , and wanted to lay it at the 5/2 it started . Did my best , covered my stake , but desperately wanted it to win . It hacked up by 6 lengths luckily eneough , no sweat fro the 3 pole ( flat ) . Best day I ever had as it happens .
But if you were doing that , you would put in a lot of minimum prices , throwing away a few hundred at low prices . Just hope those holding the said ticket got some reward for getting so close .
