22 years old.

No Educational qualifications.  No Work or Life experience of any kind.

Bravo Fianna Fail.  A quality candidate.

And yet as the song, proclaims, John Francis is the Man! Is it any wonder the country is in the state o'chassis?

Would you like to elaborate what makes this 22 yo boy a 'great candidate'?

His main focus is 'job creation'.  Somewhat ironic for a lad who couldn't eve find a job for himself.

But shure I knew his Father who was a great man..that'll do for me...etc.  Up the Party!

time will tell mate - lets give the youth a chance?

if we stick with old men coming into power to rezone their own land then we might as well all move over the irish sea now!

So your whole basis for voting for him is his age?

Democracy at its finest.  Give me strength.

In fairness the fella is not fit for office  (by profile, age, experience etc)and I don't even know him.

In my local area, there is 9 canidates for 6 seats on C.C , only now  alarm bells are going off about the quality of canidates   running because one or two is going to get in that can hardly dress themselves or write their own names .

The whole political scene in Ireland is completely farcical currently. The usual pre-election sweets were handed out this week in an attempt to limit the effects of a protest vote.

We are voting in candidates like Ming/Wallace etc on the basis that they could not be any worse than the last lot. Old cute h00r style politicians are still leading the traditional parties which is infuriating when there are currently a crop of younger politicians who are a lot more capable but perhaps there is some slight chance of tangible reform when some of these younger politicians are not career politicians.(some of them could earn more in the private sector).IG 13 is completely correct when identifying the deterioration of the quality of candidates and this is exacerbated by the basement starting level.

Leo Varadakar has to be applauded for his part in the recent Shatter saga and is one of a few that is deserving of the privilege and honour that holding a dail seat should mean. There needs to be massive transformative reform such as implementing a list system to attain a desired system. I do not have a problem with teachers but they should not be running the country or the finance portfolio, appropriately qualified professionals who are not motivated by advancing their self interests should be leading the country. Yes this is a quixotic concept but should be far from impossible.

Agree with the above. The neck of some politicians to take on the portfolios they do only brings home their astonishing arrogance. Paulie Wallnuts often says on this forum that the most dangerous kind of jockey is the one that thinks he is brilliant, but is actually useless. Irish political culture is one of perpetual self over estimation and paying huge consultancy fees to cover over lack of technical expertise.

I remember Kevin Keegan leaving the England post admitting he just wasn't good enough, you see this a bit in sport actually, but it is a completely foreign concept in Irish public life. I'd find there is a kind of honour in it. The irony of it is that they are supposed to be in politics to serve the public.

I'm sure he's a nice lad but there is no way he is fit for purpose should he get in. Very distressing stuff, we haven't really come on at all it seems. It isn't the likes of this lad that is the problem either, it is the lack of quality alternatives that gives him the chance. There even be a place for him as people clearly will relate to him, but we need the right calibre around him to do the heavy lifting while he can get on with being a symbol of hope of whatever it is his party have in mind as his schtick.
