Might have done the switch to find out a bit more about Faugheen as well, see if the quicker pace would help his jumping and whether he could be a Champion Hurdle horse. Vautour proved himself in that respect, but has more of a physique for chasing than Faugheen. Also, if Vautour can get two and-a-half now, he could be a Gold Cup horse down the line, which is the race Mullins is really after.

The horse simply got a knock and needed a few extra days..........i've been told that Vautour is a lot better than the other one fwiw.

By:
Fair points Neil d but Willie Mullins told us the reason he switched Faugheen was that Vauteur was working badly.
|
|
By:
When did he say that Wildman?
|
|
By:
On RTE on Tuesday.
The word was out about the bad piece of work last weekend,no mention of a knock although that sounds more plausible. |
|
By:
Well according to Willie in todays r/post J.R. it just had a cold , nothing about a knock of any description , so who's telling porkies ?...

Workrider I know you and Hartley don't see eye to eye but you should,he is one of the good guys on here.
Ye have plenty in common both of ye love racing have an in depth knowledge of it and are good contributors on here. |

I do not have a source per se in the Mullins camp but a very well respected contact of mine is convinced they declared the wrong horse but are not admitting it.
|
|
By:
I wouldn't worry too much about it Wildman.....we can't all get on...
![]() Did Willie actually give 'just a cold' as an excuse?....i find that incredible.....no way would the horse be running today if that was the case....especially untreated. |
|
By:
J R...I extend the hand of friendship ...Reading it right now , a cold is the excuse...
|
|
By:
I accept your apology WorkRider...
......That has to be the most unbelievable excuse i've heard tbf.....it's possible that the horse didn't scope clean after work on Saturday but still.... |
|
By:
Interesting theory Tolmi.
One thing is for certain, you wouldn't want to be paying a blind bit of notice to what Willie himself says to the media. |

By:
"Vautour (Ruby) runs in the Champion Novice Hurdle over 2m 4f. We were going to run him in the 2 mile race earlier in the week but we were not happy with him so we decided to go for this. He seems in good form and we don’t think the step up in trip will pose a problem".

I now think my earlier post is about 10s on to be correct.
