There is a system of justice,the evidence is coming from people who are deceased so can't be cross examined.

I don't think it is viable to prosecute people for forty year old crimes.

Its a fact of life that not all money gets through, that doesn't mean we stop giving to those who need it most.  It is an ongoing struggle to bypass corrupt Officials and crackdown on Charities with OTT expenses.

You miss the point Bono never gave away money,he just evaded tax whilst at the same time demanded that the Irish State give away money but none of his was going anywhere.

If one of your own was borrowing money to give to some charity you would do your best to stop them.

There are merits to the argument that we should stop foreign aid.  Bit then you compare our standards of living with those worse off and feel that even in our hour of struggle we should continue to try and help those less well off.  I'm not sure, I can understand people saying it should be left to individuals.

Would you not agree that Adams is now a complete liability to the southern wing,it does not take a political strategist to suggest that any further advancement in the south will be correlated with distancing the party from Adams and McGuiness, besides the legacy issues Adams is extremely weak on policy.

If the party was led by Mary Lou (reasonably impressive on public accounts committee)or Pearse Doherty (who I would have some time for even though their economic policies are non existent)they would be certainties to be a junior coalition partner (poison chalice but still)within the next decade due to the shambolic state of the alternatives.

dj, gerry adams still is a very popular figure in the 26 counties,i wouldnt say a man with 26,000 odd first prefernce votes was a liability indeed would see it as an endorsement of a man who has been involved in the cold face of the struggle for years and is known worldwide for his work and as an architect of the peace process,however i do agree that he a weakness when it comes to economic policies and matters fiscal but in your own words in a previous thread you dis have strong opinions about the civil servants doing the homework and day to day workings for the politicians....In my honest opinion the last few days efforts of cameron and Inda arse pocket will only strengthen the sinn fein vote throughout the island...moreso an anti government switch to sf in the 26....

I do not see them breaking beyond the core Sinn Fein support (obviously larger in certain constituencies) with the current leadership and an expeditious evolution is critical. Mary Lou would be ideal as her media coverage and hence the perception of her is extremely favourable and she ticks many boxes.

They won't be an acceptable coalition partner to the mainstream parties with the current leadership because of public perception (let's not kid ourselves about any of the other parties having any moral compass). It's surely time for Adams to sacrifice his own personal ambition for the advancement of the party, even he can surely see that.

dj you will be surprised who will take sf as a coalition partner when it comes down to the nitty gritty,people are now realising that sf politician do nor milk the system,they are paid a basic industrial wage with salaries used to run constituency offices...FACT.....they are doing the work on the ground and the electorate want real alternative this time....i think id be safe in the assumption by reading twitter and other reports tonight by saying that a majority of people think this was a major own goal by cameron/inda arse pocket....

My views would not be based on recent developments Richters, I am aware of their pledge to cap their salaries at the average industrial wage level but I would have a cynical attitude towards the authenticity of it and you can be sure there are leakages or additional compensation received in some form elsewhere.

To be fair they have advanced further than core SF support but I believe the current leadership will restrict their advancement. I would also be cynical of them being capable of introducing any tangible reform (in the unlikely scenario of them being in a position to deliver it) when their policies are non existent and encompass populist rejections of current government policy without offering even a glimmer of fiscal prudence.
