quick question are all the bookies still closed Easter sunday ? if so does anyone know if prices will be available Saturday afternoon for all of the fairyhouse races on sunday ?

Yes they will be closed on sunday,say the top races will be priced up Saturday evening,if you have an acc with any of the bookies you will be able to have a bet with them on sunday,via the internet or by phone,

very limited on my accounts, can only get pennies on, most of the shops around lay me generous amounts, I'm looking to get on one of the handicaps sunday so praying they price up saturday

Prob be priced up to a large percentage though Sat evening. Would you not go trackside if very sweet on one Curly?
Poor racing in England Sunday, so Irish markets may have a bit more liquidity than usual on Sunday morning. Also, there are always ways to open new accounts......where there is a will there is a way  |

I,ll have a wild stab at the horse you are interested in,not fair to name him(and very likely show myself up) but with a cryptic clue(not great) here is who i think it is. In sugar beet country a horticulturist wouldn,t want it on his patch.

Bookies not open on Sundays or Good Friday here , its the law ( not sharia ) . But Good Friday is not a public holiday in Northern Ireland as in rest of UK ( I think ) . Somehow or other the logic and decision making have been skewed for a long time up here , but not much we can do about it even by turning out to vote or signing petitions .
I am heading south to Kerry for Easter , first time we did ( many moons ago ) nothing moved on Good Friday . We all sat in the caravan ( after ceremony attendance ) trying to put in a very wet evening with 4 kids . Might have been Trivial Pursuit or the like , they still remember that day . No TV or DVD's even then . Lucky them , they are all off to Spain today with their children for a week in whatever sun they can find , we are dog sitting . |

You will enjoy that Kelly,the Da used to take us to Fenit and a mobile home when we were young,the penninsula used to be cut off with the tide and nothing on the "island" and had to make do with your own devices,The Da used to take a fierce interest in the tides as it could be thirsty work going on holiday.Two overriding memories why were the rabbits sick (mixy i learned later) and the amount of fish that used to come right up to the shore(never caught any and used to dig up lugworms which mightn,t have been right bait,probably given age spent more time getting the gut out of tangles anyway,think they could have been sea bass).
Did spend a short time near Dunmanway last spring,on the Sunday morning in the town did think of a time years ago with the old boys wore the suits and ties and obviously a large portion were waiting for the pub to open,a bit of a time warp but not a disagreeable one. |

Other side of the bay for us , pa , Castlegregory and the Maharees , since about 1975 ( and earlier it was Dingle town and surrounds ) . Taken a bit of a hit there this winter , the road out to Kilshannig was washed away apparently , and some of the locals are having to mount sea defences according to reports I was getting .
In the days of yore there was fierce competition for fishing "rights" between the Fenit lads and those on our side of the bay , allegations of boat scuppering etc . Having said that , some of the locals with salmon licences and other traditional fishing activity lost their livelihoods slowly but surely over the last 20 years or so . Sad that . And lots of emigration , some of the football locals tell me they could get a better team from their own exiles in USA and Australia than they can put out now . |

All the coastal areas took a pounding this winter. Fenit promenade was practically washed into the sea bust I believe repairs should be finished by this weekend if you plan to take a trip to the other side of the bay Kelly.
Wonderful whether around these parts today, got sunburnt out on the golf course, I hope it as nice during the visit. |

Long time since I was in Fenit , newapproach . Know a person who used to get most of his greyhounds from around there .
Initially I thought the bad weather / high tides / flooding was concentrated in England ( southern ) . I was far away at the time , my cousin sent me video of a flooded street , thought it was near London where she lives . Turned out it was the main street in Youghal , and her apartment there was flooded , it came over the sea wall at the mouth of the Blackwater / sea confluence . Reckon anyone near the southern coasts needed a bit of luck to avoid trouble this winter ! |

Remember a few years ago Jim Browne use to open on easter sunday,he had done this for a good few years,how did he get away with it,the shop is gone now taken over by powers,

This is a very old one.A racehorse named Good Friday fell in a steeplechase race in England back in 1946. The race took place on an Easter Monday, Giving rise to thousands of quiz questions since such as;
"When did Good Friday fall on a Monday?" |

Maybe if The Stations could be broadcast over the speakers everyone would be happy.Doubt they are open?
Sincere apologies Curlywatt was looking at Saturday Decs,so no wonder,best of luck with it.Badgerforts last run is worth a look,if taking up his entry in the bumper. Lovely part of the world Newsapproach,maybe a lot more built up these days but a magical place to me at the time. |
