Parade organizers do not allow gay rights groups or marchers with gay-pride signs to participate in the event, saying that doing so would conflict with the Roman Catholic heritage of the event.
Its about time this issue was brought into focus. Why should Irish gays have to organise their own parade each year in the borough of Queens, the weekend before the 17th? Patrick's Day is a great bit of marketing for Ireland and we need to show modern day Ireland as a progressive, inclusive society that welcomes all. Well done to the US Mayor taking a lead on this, it is something we should have sorted out ourselves a long time ago. True Irish patriots Phil McCrakin, Pat McGroin, John Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzjohn do not deserve to be marginalised. |

Did you hear about the gay Irishman? He liked women more than beer. |

Why can't they just celebrate their Irishness without bringing the issue of homosexuality into the parade. I'm sure there are plenty of gay pride parades in New York in which they can wave their banners around. The St. Patricks day parade should be have no political agenda and just be about celebrating our wonderful country.
These gay rights people have no respect or concern for people with strong religious beliefs who disagree with homosexuality, they are the ones trying to hijack the parade in order to further their own political aims. |

They want to hijack an ancient tradition.
If they want their own parade let them organise their own and hopefully run it through a Muslim area. |

All threads lead to Islam it appears. It's almost as if you grudgingly admire fundamental Islam's lack of tolerance.

I am intolerant of Islams lack of tolerance.
I love the way Liberals tie themselves in knots when conflicting rights collide. Liberals hate Catholics and can say the most outrageous about them, they naturally support vice over virtue but also support Islam because they are all self loathers. |
