Good trainer is Martin......would do well wherever he trains.....not going so well this season though.....on the second tier of trainers in this country.....below the obvious dominant force......him and a couple of others on that second tier.....the rest of them are much of a muchness.....
By:
there all much of a muchness the richer the owner the better the trainer.

Wylie's horses haven't improved much since Howard Johnson got the ban Silver??
Having the yard valued or are the bank repossessing it callingcard? Quick Jack looks like the proverbial blot this weekend -100k bonus if the winner lands a race at Cheltenham. |
By:
Inglis Drever probably would've won 4 World Hurdles in a row only for missing the race in 2006, so was Howard really such a bad trainer dj?.
By:
Valued i am told, dont think hes under any financial pressure at present, with the owner base he has and winner % he s doing well .
By:
He was bad farmer, and a fu*kin useless trainer Silver. The luckiest day in Wylies spell as an owner, was the day Johnson was struck off. The Drever must have been some animal to do what he did. He hadn't a fuc*in clue how to train Tidal Bay.
By:
well he still managed to win 11 races with the horse callit so he must have had some sort of a clue?, winning an Arkle and an unlucky 2nd in the Ballymore novice at the festival.

Ah yeah callingcard I know plenty of people who were very profitable in their primary business/profession but had plenty of other investments which stretched them, just a bad time to be selling land.(but as you say he had abelter last year)
Yeah he was shocking greaser but that wasn't the question I asked,I inquired about the improvement from horses such as Felix Yonger,on his own,Back in focus,Drive Time,Rupert Lamb,Tidal Bay(Yes he won an Arkle but look at his from directly before joining Nicholls and compare please). Even a moderate trainer like Willie Mullins has managed immeasurable improvement |
By:
Very talented animal Silver. One who Johnson had soured, before Nicholls got hold of him and gave him a new lease of life.
By:
Sure Greaser hasn't a rashers! He would have his horse in training with Rothwell and ridden by D Mullins!
He won't answer the question of improvement. The list has been put to him many times. Full of BS |
By:
Would it be guys that Howard had mental issues that contributed to his fall from grace?
By:
He'd bother with Pyrite, might that be anything to do with it. Sickener that Flemenstar has had the problems he has had given what has happened with Sprinter Sacre...not that Sire De Grugy is a mug or anything.
By:
I read that article in the Sunday papers a couple of years ago Neil D-he said it nearly bankrupted him.
Bog Warrior and Flemenstar are too major losses alright this year,Beneficient should go close in the Ryanair(or perhaps QM if it cuts up on soft) and perhaps Golantilla will turn up in the bumper again. |
By:
No sign of Blackmail either yet-I think he had a setback

Inglis Drever form figures for a trainer who supposedly hadn't got a clue.
1112422111211F12131113PU. Not bad dont you think? |
By:
Martin is usually a decent interview in print I find.
He was saying he ballsed up Beneficient earlier in the year working him a bit beyond his level with Flemenstar. I'd say those two (Bog Warrior and Flemenstar) must be two of the best work horses you'd get anywhere. They're very similar to me. I think he is an excellent trainer but he has had some bad bad luck with his tip top horses going back to that fella who won the Coral Cup. Golantilla is said to have been battering everything at home but they're surely on the verge of leaving it too late now, unless they are minding him for chasing and only fancy a few outings over flights. |
By:
His best horses if they were all fit, would be as good a team as anyone has outside of the Mullins, Nicholls, Henderson.
By:
Xenephon in the Coral Cup. Won a tidy sum on him that day

Ah yeah callingcard I know plenty of people who were very profitable in their primary business/profession but had plenty of other investments which stretched them, just a bad time to be selling land.(but as you say he had abelter last year) Yeah he was shocking greaser but that wasn't the question I asked,I inquired about the improvement from horses such as Felix Yonger,on his own,Back in focus,Drive Time,Rupert Lamb,Tidal Bay(Yes he won an Arkle but look at his from directly before joining Nicholls and compare please). Even a moderate trainer like Willie Mullins has managed immeasurable improvement FELIX YONGER;Ran twice in bumpers, winning once for HJ before being sent to W. Mullins. Impossible to say whether the horse was improved as he has only run in hurdles and chases for Mullins. BACK IN FOCUS; Ran twice over hurdles for HJ, first time out winning a Grade 2 hurdle (Racing Post Rating 142) Ran once over hurdles for Willie Mullins finishing second (Racing Post rating 127) Horse disimproved a stone over hurdles with Willie Mullins. Again impossible to say whether horse was improved by Willie Mullins as HJ never had the opportunity to run him over fences. RUPERT LAMB; Only ever ran over hurdles for HJ. Again, impossible to say whether he was improved by Willie Mullins sa he has only run over fences for him. TIDAL BAY; Open to debate, not sure that he has been improved by Nicholls. DRIVE TIME; Ran 4 times over hurdles for HJ, won twice, pulled up and fell. Horse was on an upward curve when he left HJ. Debatable whether he was improved by mullins? Try and compare like with like dj. |
