Our next meeting will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, 23rd January in the usual spot – Peadar Kearneys on Dame Street.

7.30pm Discussion with Richard Pugh (founder of p2p.ie and commentator)

We are thrilled to have Richard Pugh on our bill for the first time. Richard will give a talk on the point-to-point scene. The talk will focus on the basics as no doubt many of us urban dwellers know less than we should about the backbone of the racing industry. Richard will also run through his horses to follow from ptp graduates. As the undoubted Irish oracle on the game this is sure to be a fascinating discussion. We will also discuss the life of a commentator on the Irish circuit.

7.50pm Preview of the **** Hurdle, Irish Champion Hurdle and Irish Arkle

Panel of Noel O'Brien (senior handicapper), David Jennings (Racing Post) and Richard Pugh
Discussion of the weekend's racing
Cheltenham ante-post selections
Racing’s topical issues of the day + Q&A
Free finger food
Free quiz with a host of great prizes
FREE ENTRY
All are welcome

We will also be planning a get together at Leopardstown on Saturday January 24th. Further details will follow later in the week.

We look forward to seeing you on the night. Please pass this on to anyone you think may be interested.

Wonder did it go ahead, they deserve nothing as they persist in running these things on racing days.

Normally they were clashing with mundane Thurles cards but taking on the Thyestes was bringing it to a new level,it does give you an insight into their mindset.

They are on at 7:30 in the evening and Thursday is a very good night to hold it as it is a night where people are far more likely to go out for a drink, rather than earlier in the week.

It is surely based on a Dublin crowd attending the name would give that away I would have thought) and how many of them would be bothered going to racing in Thurles on a Thursday? It is aimed at bringing people into racing I assume or helping recent arrivals to the sport and anyone who is braving the Thurles elements is hardly going to be a newcomer to the game.

The Thyestes might be different and traffic around Gowran would be terribe, but again that meeting is frequented by people from the area or further south and once again the DRC audience would have a very small minority that would be going.

I have not been to these meetings, but the feedback is very good and you have a needless begrudging attitude towards it.

I think its a great idea but there is a thought abroad that racing is something you watch on television or in a bookies.

A Racing Club is presumably for racing enthusiasts yet this club run their meetings on the one week day there is guaranteed Irish racing.

Another wrong perception is Dubliners don't go racing, they do they go to Thurles and I am fairly certain lots went to Gowran.

Somebody has a bee in their bonnett because they haven't been asked to guest speak yet it would appear...

I made it my business to attend a couple of these meetings and I can safely say that they are well worth a visit. One was the Breeders Cup night and the other was the Kevin Blake book launch. On both occasions it was standing room only. I am told they are not as well attended during the flat season. It's a Dublin based event and a Thursday night seems to suit the Dublin patrons. I don't think Thursday racing has a significant impact on the attendance. Fair play to whomever organises these events because they are very enjoyable and cost nothing.

Can't disagree about them being a good idea but still think they could run them on a non racing day.

I notice the handicapper was in attendance, hardly surprising as he probably wasn't racing, this gentleman doesn't handicap by sight just by pressing the trusty computer button, you might as well have the groundsmen doing the handicapping.

I've been to a few of these nights and they're brilliant. The Cheltenham preview night is well worth going to. If only there were more of these nights!

It went ahead alright WMFB.

1) Good crowd there as always.

2) They could do with a bigger space as standing room only at the back.

3) Also PA very poor at the back. They could do with a speaker at the back which worked!

4) Against that they get the room for free and there is free grub and it is very central which would sway one to leave as it is.

5) I did hear Stephen (Runs it) talking to Tracy Piggott from Leopardstown on Saturday about running racing trips. This IMO would be a very good idea with the recent demise of the Irish Racegoers Club which travelled to many meetings abroad.

Is the Club sponsored by the racing post or ran by employees?

The handicapper did turn up alright WMFB and he was in Gowran too.

The Racing Club I believe is run by some of the employees.
