I want to have a decent bet on SIZING GOLD tomorrow but its 3m ? does anyone think he wont get it?i think with a clear round hes a good thing but there is the worry of going up in trip?also like TRUCKING ALONG for the crawfords, won on the bridle @ayr lto I backed it..this is tougher but could be a e/w price? over here I hope to get to haydock but i'm going down south early and may not make it back in time, but 2 strong bets on the card are 2.05 ZANDY MAN who beat a decent sort of hendersons over cd in soft ground I was there and he impressed me, the other bet is 2.40 MELODIC RENDEZVOUS. I love this horse, forget lto he was wrong had a muscle tear if you take his debut run then he has every chance here even tho he might not be 100% but he is a genuine grade 1 novice and I don't think some of these are? best of luck to all..
You don't want to have stamina doubts on soft ground on the uphill finish at Naas. Foxrock won't be stopping and goes for the 4 miler at Cheltenham after tomorrow but has a 5lb penalty on his back.
Killultagh Vic will win the bumper, hopefully Meades one (decent form at Christmas) will make him a backable prie,

Yeah his hurdle form is top class (and even his chasing debut form has been franked)-beating defy logic and morning assembly and second to Ponte Alexnadre and Don Cosscak.
De Bromhead is obviously not overly concerned about the trip or he wouldn't be running him at Naas on his fit start over 3 miles.
After race at Leopardstown Sat, 29th Dec, 2012 (1st) He jumps and gallops. We dropped him back to two miles at Navan the last day and he ran well behind Don Cossack but looking at that performance I wonder why I dropped him back as he really wants further again. He is a massive hose and is a real stayer and one to look forward to over fences. I would imagine he will go for a novice over 2m 4f plus now and I wouldn't be rushing to run him on fast ground. Henry De Bromhead
Any early betting?

Like MELODIC RENDEZVOUS myself and really fancie him for Cheltenham last year before the injury but I hate backing them first run back after a bad run-irrespective of excuse so I might just watch it tomorrow, trappy card at Naas that will take a bit of solving, would have thought D R might have expected to be on Ipsos Du Berlais.

Having a small bet on Hidden Cyclone tomorrow in the feature at Ascot, he has 14 pounds to find with Sire De Grugy but I thought that horse looked a little laboured at Kempton and may not be ripe to run to 169 having had 2 toughish races in 6 weeks. I am also not sure about the substance of Sire's form this season with the likes of Oiseau du Nuit (he's 12), Kid Cassidy (ran no race at Leopardstown) and a Captain Conan who blew up in the Tingle Creek having been his main rivals.
Sommersby ties into these lines as well and while he has beaten and been in and around the likes of Cue Card, Finian's Rainbow and Master Minded in his time... he has a nasty habit of performing to the level of his opposition or below and there have nearly always been mitigating circumstances for the top-class horses he has beaten or come close to.
Hidden Cyclone was apparently not right last season and it could be that his performance at Leopardstown was really one similar or better to what Sire De Grugy has been doing this term. Arvika has reasonable form in Foxrock and Benefficiant is pretty useful when tuned up and circumstances are favourable. They dropped a fading albeit poorly ridden Sizing Europe pretty quickly then and I just wonder whether that horse would have been shaken off so easily in a race like this years Tingle Creek.
I like the Paddy Power as an event for teaching potentially graded/top-class horses how to race. Plenty of Grade 1 horses have come out of that race in recent time including a beaten Long Run and it might just be that it has made a man of Hidden Cyclone.
Lastly, they finally seem to have stumbled upon the best trip of Shark's 2012'Gold Cup horse', and like most of them here he'll go in the heavy ground.

Big mistake running sizing over that trip and ground. A horse that jumps as well as him should be out in front over a max 2 1/2 Miles. Foxrock heavy ground 3 mile slogger was always going to outstay him on that ground. Hope it hasnt bottomed him out but De Bromhead horses dont improve as the season goes on as a general rule.

You wouldn't think he has the final say in the campaigning of any of those Sizing horses. Probably just another one of the myriad of reasons why this 'top' Irish NH trainer will never mount a challenge to Willie Mullins.

De Bromhead is a top trainer. As Neil says I would think he has little say with the sizing horses. One thing his horses do is jump. They are the best jumper of fences in the country as a whole! Your list is accurate enough. Think Meade is a good trainer.

DeBromhead is a good trainer and his horses are brilliantly schooled, but you'd love it if he'd tell Potts that he is the trainer nd that he should respect that.
The problem Henry has is that if he gets an out and out 2 to 2.5 mile Sizing horse, and that is his best chance of getting another top horse.....yer man will likely sour him.
Sizing Europe must have been some honest horse to come back from some of those 3 mile excursions.

Part of the difference is that Mullins like Ferguson, Mourinho, Cody, Schmidt or Guardiola would tell someone like Potts where to go.
They'd all reckon that if ya don't have control you've nothing.

Neil it is national hunt racing after all and most of them have no stud career after retirement unless you're a really good mare, so I'm a great believer in running them often as defeat doesn't make one iota of a difference and you live to fight another day.
It was worth trying Sizing over the trip was it not?, it failed but at least they learned something.
Too much cotton wool in todays National Hunt racing.

Maybe there has to be Silver, if a good 12f horse can't land a Group one at 10f as well, he is a National Hunt sire these days. Two of the best 12f horses of recent times are in Japan, and if they were here they'd be NH sires. It is the way things have gone, they're dealing in much faster pedigrees these days and I'm not sure those horses want to have the stuffing knocked out of them.
Nobody will use the Cup horses at stud that traced for a good few seasons and should be throwing the future NH horses. In fact, these horses barely even exist anymore, they are gelded and go globetrotting cutting back in trip and tackling weaker races for bigger pots in the Far East.
Look at Fame and Glory, what bussiness has a son of Montjeu as a NH sire, most Montjeu's that have tackled a fence have resented it that I have seen, Noble Prince apart.

How can he say he didn't stay? if Foxrock wasn't in the race he'd have won and him staying wouldn't really be a discussion. And as we all know Foxrock is a pretty decent horse who does nothing but stay hence him going for the 4 miler at Cheltenham.

Yes i understand tony,Just find it strange when trainers come out with stuff like that after one run at the trip,it's entirely possible he stayed but just got outstayed.

true chelts, but his trainer does not think so..made a comment that he picked the wrong course over the wrong trip? as you say the winner got the trip well

I thought the horse showed a lot of speed at Navan to put the race to bed four out. What he was doing running it over 3 miles i dont know. One way to finish a horse for season is give it a run like he had at naas on bad ground. Horse is a 2 1/2 mile horse. Seems to be a recurring thing with De Bromhead(Potts horses anyway) to run his horses over a distance too far. Doubt he has any say in the matter though. Think this horse is one of the best novices in the country. Hopefully we get to see it.

Powers Gold cup looks an ideal target. He'd always be vulnerable over 3 in Graded company, he'd want to be taking on inferiors at that trip to thrive. also, you couldn't (or shouldn't!!) ride him as prominently at that trip which takes away his two greatest assets.
