This is the modern curse of the Western world and will ultimately bring about its downfall.

Religion has been in disorganised flight in Ireland recently,it is fashionable to be anti Catholic and watching the intolerance of the Liberal bigots has been fascinating.

These same Liberal bigots will never criticise Islam because they are both hypocritical and afraid.

How did you manage in London this time round, Borneo?  I know you were mentally prepared this time around, but still a big shock to your system being thrown into such a vibrant multicultural melting pot.

Those Bangladeshis do a cracking curry, you have to give them that.
Report wildmanfromborneo January 3, 2014 11:55 AM GMT
I'm sure they do but is that a reason to hand over your country to a crowd of barbarians.

I know of no historical parallel for what's going on in Britain if anyone could show me one I would be surprised.

I have grandchildren attending a school in London where the whites comprise 20 percent of the class, where English is spoken by less than 20 percent of the class, where only food prepared in the barbaric way is served.

I have now a final mission in life,to get them out of there.

Report Ozymandius January 3, 2014 12:03 PM GMT
IS there a clear and present danger of your grandchildren being radicalised and co-opted by the Fundamentalists?  We hear a lot of stories about this type of brainwashing.
Report workrider January 3, 2014 12:08 PM GMT
Scumbag , Grandchildren will never be a worry of yours....
Report Ozymandius January 3, 2014 12:09 PM GMT
Not for a few years anyway, Wonks.  Do you remember that scare when you thought that one of your grandchildren might be gay?

Grooming is the big fear, bullying another.

I am going to test myself on the punting front,it worked before but this time there will be no recreational betting.
Report Ozymandius January 3, 2014 12:11 PM GMT
Whats the format of the test, Borneo?
Report wildmanfromborneo January 3, 2014 12:15 PM GMT

I won't be punting in your field of expertise though.

Did he have his ACA qualification when he left KPMG to start the newagents thing?, something I've wondered about. I'd say he probably had having spent 2 years there. Strikes me as a fella who would follow his gut. MOL that is. He was a Tax advisor so he probably did. just strange as they would have done all they could to hold onto him you'd think.
Report neill d January 3, 2014 12:29 PM GMT
Sory, it would have been the Tax Qualification maybe? that takes a bit longer than 2 years though I thought even if he had exemptions. Ballsy enough move, although I guess his family must have had a few quid seeing as he went to Clongowes.
Report tony57 January 3, 2014 12:30 PM GMT
bigwilly..I agree but wr has cause..read a few threads you,ll see..im sorry to say ...imo oz went below the belt..(he will never agree)and now we see the result..

as for the topic..i agree with Wildman 90% my hatred of the fanatics is well known on here but the liberal left Wildman?..no mate..im born and bred catholic..(ex altar boy..ffs)I have no bitterness towards my own religion,..but all religion..as a atheist..i believe if we didn't have religion..a lot of the worlds problems could be sorted..but Wildman..im with you ..get your kids out of that rat hole..and get them to a decent school..
Report wildmanfromborneo January 3, 2014 12:30 PM GMT
Must have gone to Clongowes with Ozymandius although I'm fairly sure Ozymandius is in his seventies.
Report neill d January 3, 2014 12:33 PM GMT
I think the idea that a lot of rich kids coming out of Institutions like Clongowes and Trinity is that it is better to create a job and work for yourself rather than to work for someone else. They often are nearly always well connected and so have access to great expertise. Makes sense I guess, rather than looking after the financial interests of someone else. there is a very good living in that but you'd never get rich off of it. The offer from Michael Ryan must have been very good.

Tony, I referred to Borneo's late wife, Borneo has since conceeded that he had no problem with the reference.

Now I know you Scousers like nothing better than a cause celebre to bleat over, this isn't one, so move on!

Mainwairing, permission to start a new thread about your punting challenge?

Michael O' Leary graduated from Trinity in 1983 with a BA in Economic and social studies. As Neil D says he then worked for 2 years as a trainee tax consultant with what is now KPMG.

Anyone else find it strange that you would suddenly leave the tax graduate program with a year left to open a Newsagents in Terenure and then Walkingstown (it is often commented that he worked the till there on Christmas morning)

Even if his parents were wealthy it doesn't really explain it,they wouldn't finance it surely when he was still studying. It's like it wasn't planned but happened suddenly, you certainly wouldn't save the starting chips from a trainee tax consultant's salary(had a backer I'd imagine)

Fair dues to him after that he acted as Tony Ryan's tax advisor initially (who was notoriously difficult to work for from Dennis O'Brien's accounts of being his pa)and the rest is history.
Report neill d January 9, 2014 11:54 PM GMT
I actually wasn't aware of the newsagents bit at all until I read it in an article posted here. It would be interesting for a journalist to ask him what his thinking was behind taking that step.

He's a funny guy and always a value interview.

Asked by Tracy Piggot on the chances of Si C'etait Vrai over Christmas 'That's French for Not Very Good'!!

Geez I'd say the poor people at that hotel bar are having their ear bent, Richters.

Ease up on the expense account scoops.  Down in the bosom of the The Republic, you feel safe and secure and when the pints flow you become all misty eyed and over the top about all things Republican/GAA.

In our country we happily accommodate all divergent views and tend to avoid political matters in the pub!
