Ego ?? ... Never thought ROG was one for limelight and "Ego" ..... I really admired the guy . He was never the most " gifted " of players but worked his socks off and achieved a huge amount in the game  very like Padraig Harrington in a lot of ways ...
Also wears his heart on his sleeve and tells you exactly what he thinks unlike lots of others who will give the usual soundbites ...

If he was still around we would have been glad to bring him on in the last 20 mins v the all blacks to close game out

Not one for ego and limelight, are you kidding me?

Worked his socks off on his kicking, but was the weakest defender international rugby has ever known, few 10's were worse at launching a back

Bring him on with the ABs running at us, looking for tries? I think not, equivalent to defending with 14 men.

* launching a backline

ROG did have his weaknesses there is no hiding from that  .....I think both Sexton and your beloved Madigan ( whom i am both a big fan of by the way  ) could both learn a lot about how to control a game at the top level ... ie Ireland are 5 points in front with 10 to go against the All Blacks and Johnny starts trying crossfield kicks ?????? ... Score 3 points and game is over All Blacks will have to score twice .....
Look we ll beg to differ but i just think your opening thread " The Ego Has Landed " is unfair on a guy who has done a lot for Irish and Munster Rugby

Dingle, I think you would find it very hard to find one No. 10, anywhere,  who does not have a massive ego. Its a part of the interview, you don't get the jersey without the inner belief that goes with wearing it. Ego he certainly has, and he wouldn't mind telling you that himself.

Callit : Kyle and Gibson . Better than anyone since in a green jersey , only Ollie Campbell came near them .  No egos for Kyle and Gibson , did not know Ollie well enough to comment .

My views on ROG are well documented on here over the years , excellent for Munster , average for Ireland  , just lucky we had decent teams during his tenure . Pity Maurice Fitz didn't play rugby  , better kicker than ROG and wouldn't have to have played at even Kerry standard to be better than ROG throughout the field .

Was that cross-field kick really only with 10 mins to go, Mick?  I recall it as being not that far into the match.

The one kick I do remember was Connor Murray kicking away possesion with 2/3 mins on the clock.

Anyway the main point is, he is a hugely divisive figure in Irish rugby, that's what makes the documentary so interesting. (what is it with Corkonians btw?)

He was horrible to Sexton when Sexton first came into the Irish camp, at a time when he could have take him under his wing and helped him.  He went out of his way to do exactly the opposite.  Some might think why should he help a direct compeditor for his place, but that's the rugby way.  Humphries was very accommodating and helpful with ROG when he was the main man and ROG an up and coming  whippersnapper.  Rog should have learned from that but didn't or couldn't.

Geez this is morose viewing.  Cheer up ROG ffs!

all that's missing is the theme tune from MASH.

Given the option of being marooned on a desert island with either ROG or Borneo, I would give serious consideration to the latter option.

one interesting line in it

on Kidney as a coach....tactically contributes little...doesn't have any impact on ROGs week

You talking to yourself there ozy much?

Thought it was a good documentary myself and I would be a big Leinster fan even!

Good programme, great career can see him managing Munster and if that goes well could be Ireland Manager in future.

I thought it was interesting and realistic..not dressed up for the cameras.I wouldn't be his biggest fan in terms of his playing ability but his longevity as a player is testament to his ability to play to his strengths as much as possible.
