Excellent awards as usual.

Barry Cash gets lifetime achievement award for his ride on Majestic Benbulben in Sligo, best I have ever seen.

Dundalk win racecourse award presumably for attracting the smallest crowds and lowest betting on any track in Ireland, racking up nearly a million in legal fees in some obscure dispute with bookies another factor.

Twice raced Quevega(accept she has problems) could have got horse of the year and C Byrnes could also have got outstanding achievement so it wasn,t all bad.

what beaut came up with dundalk?!?..trying to justify its existance?..when i heard it i thought it was a joke.if i was rating irish courses it would come last?..horrible place
Report Newmanix December 10, 2013 12:06 PM GMT
Dundalk only exists to allow the bookies stay open late on Fridays to help relieve gambling addicts of their weeks wages.
Report slickster December 10, 2013 5:40 PM GMT
So true Newmanix.
Did Peter O'Hehir get an award?
Report Arklearkle December 10, 2013 5:49 PM GMT
Its a pity Charles didnt get an award it would have fairly livened things up on here.

Brillant post Newmanix, went to Dundalk once shortly after it opened, wouldnt be in a rush again to go,is the dispute stil going on with the bookies, when I went the only bookie I knew was Bar One.

I believe Huddys it is on the brink of being settled if it's not already settled.

I was only there the once on All Ireland Hurling Final day when Kilkenny hammered Tipperary.

Not a bad crowd there that day. LMFM were sponsoring the day.

It's basically like a glorified day at Shelbourne Park!!

Hard indeed to believe Dundalk won this award , as a greyhound man as well as a lover of horseracing  , i find this hard to believe , the viewing alone leaves much to be desired ..I think they went with it because its really the newest and most modern , nothing else to recommend it though...

I would've gave it to Dundalk just because they're the only stewards not petrified to bring O'Brien/Coolmore to task.

Well after looking at the first race there tonight, they have made a welcome development by putting in a "cutaway" pushing the horses out to the centre of the course turning in,it looks a lot more fairer and ought to cut way down on the hard luck stories. Not quite sure is the design right but definitely is much better.
Report paulie wallnuts December 11, 2013 8:38 PM GMT
agree with pa lapsy......the cutaway will vastly reduce the hard luck stories......an excellent idea.....
a few years ago they did the same at leopardstown.....and it made it so much better from a punting point of view......its a rubbish flat track without the cutaway......too much bumping and boring.....far too much luck involved.....that year teofilio would have been beaten in a 2yo race there at a short price......without the benefit of the cutaway......
it was removed next season as the jockeys said it took the art of race riding out of the game.....did ya ever hear such nonsense.....and most of them couldn't ride a rocking horse.....the dirty little urchins......

Is any thread safe from silver's obsession with AOB?

silver is craking open a few tinnys this evening.....aidan isn't really bothering him tonight......

Even Paulies attempts at humour are wrong,Joseph OBrien has had a four timer in Dundalk, luckily he has no mount in the last.
Report pa lapsy December 11, 2013 9:06 PM GMT
Young Joe doin alright though,4 timer on some mediocre horses.
Report Tolmi December 11, 2013 9:10 PM GMT
He got his mention in at 19.38!I'd say the Joseph 4 timer for 4 different trainers has seen his light extinguished for night!

Since when did I slag Joseph as a jockey?, I do have issues with the authorities for moving the goalposts for the great and powerful.
Report wildmanfromborneo December 11, 2013 9:23 PM GMT
You did worse slagged him as an individual with your prurient questions.
Report silvergreaser December 11, 2013 9:31 PM GMT
Not like wildman to exaggerate, "prurient?"

Anyway I'm not going to get dragged into some petty argument with you wildman.
Report wildmanfromborneo December 11, 2013 9:35 PM GMT
I hope either the foul mouthed after timing Tobywong or the vile parsimonious Irish Guy or the timid Slickster rear their collective ugly heads.
