The definition of racism is now so wide it is almost meaningless, not fawning over Nelson Mandela is racist.

This Immigrant Council is a state funded quango that have to justify their existence and more importantly their spondulicks by pretending their is a huge problem.

THERE’S BEEN A significant increase in the number of racial abuse incidents and hate crimes in the first eleven months of the year compared to the same period in 2012, according to preliminary figures compiled by the Immigrant Council of Ireland.
142 incidents have been reported to the organisation since January, compared to 77 in the same period last year.
Verbal and written abuse accounts for the majority of the cases — 35 per cent and 17 per cent of the total, respectively.
The rest of the categories break down as follows:
Discrimination and Social exclusion 24 per cent
Written harassment 17 per cent
Physical violence 9 per cent
Property damage and racist graffiti 7 per cent
Non-verbal harassment (e.g. offensive look or gesture) 7 per cent
Other 1 per cent
20 per cent of those reporting incidents to the Council said the abuse had happened at their workplace. 14 per cent said it happened in the street, while 12 per cent said it had taken place on the internet.
CEO of the Immmigrant Council Denise Charlton described the increase as “alarming” and said it showed racism was a reality that “people and families are facing in their communities”.
“These initial findings show that racism can occur anywhere, people have been made victims in their own homes, at work, on the street and increasingly online.”
Charlton said the organisation had mounted an extensive advertising and social media campaign this year to assure victims they had nothing to be concerned about in coming forward. “Our hope is that the increase we have reported is an indication that this has happened rather than an actual increase in racism,” Charlton said.

" offensive look or gesture " they are scraping the bottom of the barrel with that one,how can a look be racist,is there a special racist glare but more importantly is it compensatable.
This is the nonsense of creating a pampered class, they learn to play the racist card and the worst thing you can call someone in modern day Ireland is a racist, its also as Ozymandius constantly tells us a serious crime, one that gets you sent to jail without trial in England.

Was talking to my sons girlfriend last night about this subject , when she and her friend were in the middle east a few years ago , they were spit on by women wearing burkas , for wearing western clothes , one guy tried to buy her , another told her there was something wrong with her skin and she should go to see a doctor , she has freckles ..I wonder how the ICI would deem that , Racism is not only practised in Ireland , but seems to have a real hold abroad and by all accounts is flourishing there ....Maybe we should send the people from the ICI abroad where they will experience REAL RACISM...

Another Quango gone nuts imo. In all my time in Ireland I have never witnessed one incidence of what they define above as racism.

Discrimination is the one....Travellers have made this another cash cow in this country...more money for jam!
Report silvergreaser December 8, 2013 6:46 PM GMT
The thing with Travellers is they deserve all the scorn they get from the general public.

Running pitch battles on the streets of every large town in Ireland and they wonder why people view them with nervy suspicion?.

When they walk into a pub and the publican refuses them service all the regulars are on edge just in case something might just kick off and they wreck the place.

Yes there are many travellers who can go into a pub and have a few drinks without terrifying the locals, but who can blame the general public for been extremely weary when they bring it all onto themselves with their eye for an eye culture of settling disputes.

But most so called racism is not racism at all just pure ignorance.

Some scumbag says hey there's a n!gger, you know what lads we should hate him because he's a n!gger, yet they don't know the guy from adam but the colour of his skin is the catalyst for their pure ignorance.

We are welcoming Roma Gypsies whilst watching our graduates emigrate, you can be certain no matter how far down this country goes they will never go home, this is heaven to them, they don't have to work they are housed and can earn extra money to send back to Romania from begging and robbing.
Report Ozymandius December 9, 2013 11:00 AM GMT
I wold have thought graduates emigrating would be a great deal off your mind, Borneo.  After all you despise those University educated broad minded, progressive, liberal elite types?

Shirley you have more in common with the arriving Roma?
Report wildmanfromborneo December 9, 2013 11:07 AM GMT
Its only when they are attending university that they all have the same predictable opinions.the same Liberal intolerance, when they go out in the real world most change, they mature find work and start a family then they become rabid right wingers.

The free education brought in by Donough OMalley was the source of our later prosperity,I admire educational achievement but I still get the irony of a privileged elite espousing left wing causes.
Report Ozymandius December 9, 2013 1:10 PM GMT
The better educated and more broadminded tend to retain a healthy social liberal conscience even as they shift into fiscal and econmoic conservatism.

Or have their brains picked , till they hold No opinions only their masters  eh Del ..One great thing about been my age is , i have an opinion and i ts mine , no matter if its right or wrong ..Unlike like yourself and a few others on here , who never held an opinion , unless they were Allowed that privilege by their left wing friends , who Allow them say what is pure left wing bile only , Sad to think that some of the younger have never really had a point of view of their own , their thoughts practically forbidden..

Ok, kindly highlight one opinion of yours that differs from Borneo. If you are a man of your own opinions, it is statistically impossible for those to all be duplicates of his.
