I am glad poor Puppy wasn't riding him yesterday - everyone one would be blaming him.

Ran a reasonable race on his first run of the year.
Usually needs his first run and was beaten in Thurles in 2010, badly needed it in Down Royal in 2011 and won a race last year on debut that fell apart when Plan A was a complete non jigger and not all that good anyway. Was running fine until he looked like he blew up in the straight and was beaten by an out and out 2 mile specialist who was running over his optimum trip and good a good ride by Ruby. A lad that was near the paddock said that he blew quite hard afterwards. |

Thanks Distant View , I NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO LOOK AT THEM COMING BACK IN , i got held up , just as i was passing the weigh room i heard jessie say in passing to someone , that's the reason he ran like that , obviously nothing sinister ...Thanks again...

Would he not be of interest off 148 in the Galway Plate. Likes summer ground and they could run him away over hurdles at the big festivals during the spring. he'll pick up a graded chase some way along the line this season (there are so many). He was 146 before Sunday and that is a mark he could have won a Plate off of, he led ROR far enough in the Neptune over 2m5f after all.

Good point Neill d...The question is , does he want to know , looking back at leopardstown when benificient beat him , he trew in the towel very quickly imo...

He wouldn't convince me Workrider, and he is liable to run up the arse of something like Flemenstar and ruin that mark as he has a nice bit of talent but you'd never see him winning a big one. He'll probably run in a lot of those races that Roi du Mee ran in last year and mightwin something like that race at Tramore early in the new year!!
Myself I'd rather stick him back over hurdles, (where he might even be better) and run away in all the nice races in the spring and then have a crack at the Plate. It can be a poor enough race for the money often enough and this is a horse that is used to carrying 11'10 having run in nowt but Grade 1's. No mileage of money in this betting wise but I'd find it interesting, Harrington isn't really that kind of trainer though. Others would give him a few quiet ones and get him a REALLY good mark, maybe even in time for Cheltenham!! |

ya reap what ya sow in this game.......and if I was the owner of Oscars well.......id never give her another horse.......threw a top class Neptune up in the air......by putting up a buff rider......who shhit himself like he did this year on jezki.......when he had a chance of winning.......Oscars well was going to beat first lieutenant ....rock on ruby and so young on merit that year but for the intervention of Robert.......that's how good a horse he was......
obviously has had training problems since.......but on his second start over fences......he again under Robert receives a bonecrunching fall in punchestown.......other races he rode it were littered with errors....... jumps perfectly under Geraghty.......but the damage is done......and the horse is more or less gone now...... the people who owned cailin annamh didn't need 10 races to see the light........that must go down as the riding achievement of the year.......he should really get an award for getting her beat in limerick by Chiltern hills......quite a feat...... |

Difficult to disagree with that^^^^^^

I reckon Oscars has been on the wane since his novice season. Its a bit simple to blame the jockey. BG rode him his last two runs and we saw how he ran. Its a big if to talk about him winning the Neptune. We don't know that - all we know is he didnt and has done nothing since. So Young made quite a bad mistake at the last also and some would say he would also have won. All ifs. In fact if you look back at his novice wins we now realise he did not really beat much.

I would like to see him run on genuine good ground as ive always been convinced he needed it if he gets it and does not convince that would be it for me

sadly the head of the syndicate that owns him died a few months back.
Mick malone an 87 year old character of a man passed away after a short illness. Although he owned a leg in a few winners it was oscars that was his pride and joy and for that alone id love to see him get a deserved big prize soon for his remaining owners. |

Sorry to hear that olddesperado ..Its always sad when a punter who loves the game passes away R.I.P.....
|
|
By:
ye he loved the game alright, and a fearless gambeler. The year oscars looked like winning at cheltenham until stumbling at the last he stood to win over a hundred grand from antipost bets and although comfortable he was by no means a very wealthy man

Didn't realise Mick Malone passed away RIP.

after today id keep him to good or better even though he has soft in the formbook.
just never seemed to be acting on it again |

I think its in his head ODDS ...Not the horse they thought he was....
|
|
By:
i wouldnt knock him just yet, still think theres one big one in him prob in the spring on good ground, btw he,s won over 260 grand from memory so i,d take one like him everyday.
Always thought he,d be a chaser but only eight and if mine i,d seriously consider a try back over hurdles as he wasnt far off hurricane fly on a few occasions and plenty of races where he could avoid the fly in the calender prob over further than 2 miles. |
|
By:
You could be right ODDS , not a bad idea atall , it might freshen him up as well , running like a horse thats not enjoying himself ...
|
|
By:
how do ya know hes not enjoying himself......no smiley face is it.......
