Love this event, and delighted it is back in its rightful home. Something, or someone I love a lot less is Lee Westwood, but he looks one of the each way bets of the year at 33-1 with Paddy Powers. In his last 4 visits here, he has 3 times finished runner up, and on the latest occasion a closing 74 took him just outside the top ten(Kaymer won with a closing 63). In the event last year, albeit at a different track, he again looked the likely winner during the early stages of the final round, but again under performed to finish with a level par 72, and be 3 shots off Poulters winning total. I don't think Westwood and playing partner Oosthuizen helped each other that day, both only parring the easy par 5 9th, and then finding no real spark between them thereafter. Obviously when backing Westwood, you have to be prepared for the last round jitters, and the possibility of him throwing it away, but the 9.25 on him finishing top 5 is cracking value. He blew the cobwebs away last week, improving as the event went on, having a fine run on Saturday. He may place himself under a little less pressure or expectation this week as his form has been very in and out. But more often than not, when he tees up here, he brings his A game, and considering the doubts about the market leaders, 33s starts to look real value. Rory is showing signs of brilliance, but rounds still littered with inconsistency, Phil says his swing is in disarray, Stenson still has injury doubts, Rose wasn't complimentary about the state of his game recently at the Grand Slam,.....the list goes on. Had 100 e.w at 33s, will add another 100 on here for trading(it is Westwood after all!!) Also backed Jordan Spieth e.w at 33s. Hugely impressive year from the kid, he seems destined for greatness. I would expect him, more than Rory to evnentually take up Tigers mantle. He seems very single minded in his pursuit of golfing glory, and doesn't seem to take losing well, which sits well with me. After the year he had, and the cheque banked after the FedEx, you could have him expected him to have some serious down time. Not a bit of it. He was superb in the Presidents Cup, holing some unbelievable putts under pressure. Al he wants to do is win. No chasing around watching tennis practise for him! He really does look the real deal. Had 60 e.w at 33s. Haven't backed him yet, but will add Louis Oost. Another who could have had much more lucrative results in this event in the past few years, he clearly likes this part of the world. A very poor year, constantly interrupted with injuries, I think at the prices its worth chancing that he is now fully fit and ready to go. If he is, I don't think he be far away. Currently trading at about 100-1 on here, you don't have to pay much to find out. GL all.
Francisco Molinari is my man this week. 2nd last week and won on this track when last played here in 2011. Has had a dissapointing season and is nearly as bad a putter as Westwood so comes with risks, but can hopefully finish the year off in style.
Great field and any amount can win but I like Haas as a player and played just ok last week and is attractively priced as a result.
F Molinari 42's W and Pl. B Haas 60's W and Pl.

Only saw a few clips of Rory playing Tiger in the challenge match yesterday , but what I did see was a control of his approach shots which has been missing for 10 months plus . Watching brief , one swallow does not make a summer , but hopefully these green shoots we keep hearing about will bear fruit sooner rather than later .
On the basis that I mainly back to trade , may have an interest in him at some point ( when play commences , I like to see the whites of their eyes before I pull the trigger ).

Having backed Rory last week, and with bigger holes in the other market leaders imo, I backed him e.w at 12s today. The confidence gained from his great finish to the 'Duel' may inspire him. If a couple of putts go in early..... Backed Louis at 100 on here and 17 for top 5. Another 30 euro e.w on Westwood.

Lots of money for Rory on here , callitasucit, another I noticed last week was Peter Hanson , he played brilliant golf in his last round . Both of these have ground to make up to improve positions , guaranteed a try at least .

Rory slagging off pod to tiger over slow play in final round in China, pod countered, said playing with Rory cost him at least 6 shots with photographers clicking on backswing. Boy wonder spending too much time with tiger becoming as classless as him. 12-1 a joke price for him even given his record here.

That's bad form out of Rory, no need for arse licking, and using a comrade as cheap fodder. Prat. Though Pods retaliation doesn't wash. I would rather 100 cameras clicking, than no cameras watching. Hanson is someone that I rarely, if ever back Kelly. Too much of a choker on the big occasion. (Says the man who has lumped on Westwood)

Presumably you will trade out at 3.5 , callitasucit . Guaranteed profit is always desirable . Whoever was backing Rory from 15 into 11.5 ( at the off) deserves a pat on the back .
Hanson touched 20 in the run , now still the same . Have not yet looked up his score . 2 profitable trades anyway . Especially pleased with Rory though , 10 months plus is a long time to be waiting .

I called Rory for a late season win in the previous golf thread but I didn't think prohibitive odds would mean 12-1, plus his ego is getting on my nerves. From what I saw last night, he was solid everywhere. Big Phil finished with a 9 and a 5, wtf?

Did not see any of it , deplasterer . Delighted that Rory has begun well , keeping up the gallop will be the trick from now on . Phil has been up and down leaderboards like snakes and ladders since he won the Open . Love him , but he is hard to pick for a going day .

Cracking round from Rory alright, the difference being today he got a couple of putts to drop early. Confidence has been the main missing ingredient with him. Lets see if he can carry that forward now. No Kelly, wont be trading out. Decided near start of year that I would let bets ride, unless it was something huge in an e.w double or something. More often than not I found myself laying off at prices I would otherwise have been backing. So was basically just laying off for the sake of it, rather than thinking it was actually the right thing to do at the time. It has its ups and downs, but believe I am doing right, so will stick to it. Though to be fair, Rory is on the short side now at 3.05. As you say yourself, one swallow doesn't make a summer. Spieth had a superb finish to his round, having been 2 over through 8. In his first WGC, and just off the back of a dream breakthrough season culminating in a big cheque and a Presidents Cup appearance, one might have expected at that stage of todays round that he might have thought this was one to write off. Not a bit of it. The kid is unflappable, and a born winner. Louis Oost and Westwood bought fought their way back in to lesser extents, so all in all very happy with day one. Oost didn't birdie any of the par 5s. Hopefully he can rectify that this morning. I feel very sorry for Phil, his backers, and especially his 3 ball backers. Imagine the summary of that in a horseracing context! Led early, extended advantage at halfway with rivals sending out distress signals. Reduced advantage, but still clear and hard on the steel approaching two out. Didn't take off, came home in own time!!

Rory hit 1.9 in the early run last night , I wondered who was backing him at those odds with 45 holes still to play . Apparently he hit water later on in his round , have not seen the coverage yet . Wonder has the bubble burst ? Hope not .

Rory has been an excellent front runner in the past and was playing sublime golf on the first 7 holes, before I called it a night and caught a couple of hours sleep. I never bothered following it on betfair at the time as it would mean that I would have to stare at my own positions on the event and I did not want nightmares.
What is your view on the price of Dustin Johnson at the moment with 36 holes to play at 2.26?
How far was he clear when he hit 1.9?Rory has been an excellent front runner in the past and was playing sublime golf on the first 7 holes, before I called it a night and caught a couple of hours sleep. I never bothered following it on betfair at the
Think he was 3 clear , distant , but he hit a poor shot with a wedge ( about 15 yards too far ??) , holed the big putt , someone was backing him no matter what shape he was in . Know I laid some as low as 1.9 , it was too low with 45 holes still to play .
Did not see a lot of Dustin last night , but 2.26 seems a lay given the way Dustin plays the game , he is a bit hit or miss . Dont know the scores though , lay is just a gut feeling !

Yep you are always waiting on a double or treble from dustybin, good and all as he is. His driving stats so far are way above his usual form. A lay for me at those odds.

When Rose made double bogey on I think the 9th hole, Rory briefly went 4 clear. With Spieth 4 under for the day at the time, and in third, with Oost in a share of fifth, I gave myself a big pat on the back. I wasn't so fuc*in smug two hours later!! Its a fickle business. Personally I think Dusty a good price, though I am hoping for a collapse.
