it's called gambling. Anything can happen when those gates open.

Boils are anti-gambling.

It wouldn't be the first time a bookmaker saved a punter a few quid.

JR Hartley try to look like a recently released prisoner and they will bet you what you want.

From what I hear and based on personal experience , the only firm who will take more than pence are PP . The English based ones wont even lay you 50p ( their minimum bet ) of anything over 10/1 odds  . Corall used to be OK with me until I had £30 on  Phil at 40/1 for the Open , severely restricted now for my sin .

Only chance of getting on a decent bet is to visit shops , sounds like people are having to "dress up " to avoid face recognition . The bookies only want to bet on fixed odds encounters ( soccer mainly which attracts the younger fry ) , big brother etc , and run FOBT's ( not in ROI ) . Just bean counters despite their protestations on various racing channels .

And the independents are largely gone , they used to be good locally .

Grin wildmanfromborneo that is funny but very true.

Kelly PP are as big as joke as any, i don't know how people do it that bet on horses and are any good for that matter.
Report Kelly October 17, 2013 11:39 AM BST
Can only comment on personal experience ,  Rocket . Still can get good money on with PP if you visit shops , have not been restricted in the shops so far ( but I am careful about floor limits ).  Maybe you have to try a different approach if you are having trouble with them .

From what ive been hearing these firms are not so much worried about your stakes but are worried about  you beating them on price and once you do that..... that's when they start taking action against you
Report Kelly October 18, 2013 1:28 PM BST
Think they are shooting themselves in the foot in that respect , trooper .  Once there is no value to be had on any bookies price , they wont lay anything , no turnover , no profit , just numbers which satisfy the bean counters in so far as they are not "losing " the battle against the punter .

Not losing is completely different from winning , they cant win unless they get their market right , which sometimes means taking a stance .  Ideally the bookie wants to lay every horse in every race for a level amount , thats what "making a book " is about . But if your prices are always below the exchange price , you wont lay anything , so you cant win anything .  Maybe the bean counters are happy with that , who knows , the traditional bookies went out the window approaching 5-10 years ago .

Tradeing principals they call it...

If you know these you can box clever and move around from shop to shop or outfit to outfit...

A 100 at 3/1 wont be treated the same as 100 at 12/1(obviously)

And a pony double at Fairyhouse wont be treated the same as a pony double at Harols cross even if the liability for the second bet is less it may still raise a flag...

A pint with a friendly staff member will be money well spent...
Report Kelly October 18, 2013 2:00 PM BST
True pecker . Always worth having the person on the other side of the counter friendly --although that might be a struggle for some of those we have all run across at some times .
