http://irishhorse.tv/jonjo-bright-back-home/ Just watched this. Well worth taking some time to do the same. Support the Jockeys Emergency Fund or the Limerick Raceday on Monday with what you can.
With so many wealthy people in racing many of them could donate €50 grand a year to the jockeys emergency fund without turning a hair, it would be like loose change to them, but instead they have to rely on the generosity of the general public for fundraising?.

Whats bitter about that?, racing could've held a golf tournament between themselves and raised a virtual fortune.
I give to charity actually I have a monthly direct debit, racing has probably more rich people in this country than any other recreational activity/bloodstock industry.
The jockeys emergency fund should never want for money.

silvergreaser your spot on...listening to ruby over the last few days on radio and tv telling the public that its time for them to give back to the jockeys for all they do for them is nauseating...ruby never done jack sh1t for anything or anyone in his life unless the perisher got paid for it...the public owe fcuk all to jockeys..its their job ..if they dont want to do it do something else...good cause and no doubt the public will come out and support...but as i said we dont need miserable pr1ks like walsh telling us its our turn to give back...

Your dislike of Ruby Walsh is because your team couldn't get to him.
Ruby Walsh is supreme in his sport and is paid little compared to other sport stars,he is in constant danger yet gets nothing for this. Motor racing drivers are paid millions because of the alleged dangers yet they have been all but eliminated.
This is the only charity a racing man should give to,all the others are just paying the wages and travel expenses of hypocritical chief executives.

Here is Ruby at his best. Someone needs to explain to him that half the money that makes up the prize money that he races for comes from betting tax on punter's stakes. Pity that Big Mac was just as ignorant and didn't have the knowledge to pull him up on it, as he could have buried him on the spot.

Punters may not pay any betting tax directly but as you well know the bookmakers wouldn't be absorbing the tax if it wasn't for punters. As for Rupert not being a well paid sportsman,I'd estimate that between endorsements, sponsorship, riding fees, prize money, retainer and his consultancy fees(which you have referred to previously),he's making well north of 500k per year.

A Formula 1 driver gets that per race. I was comparing him with other professional sportsmen. Bookmakers pay their tax to the exchequer as do publicans and shop keepers what the exchequer does with it is their own business.

Ruby Walsh is a very very wealthy man his share of the prize money in England and Ireland would be huge, how many years is he riding now?, not to mention all the other perks of the job.
Top jockeys are paid less than footballers, golfers, tennis players etc, but they earn more than many other professionals in other professional sports. Even journeymen jockeys make a good living out of the game.
Motorcycle Racing is dangerous, Boxing is dangerous, National Hunt Racing is dangerous, Gymnastics is dangerous, hell even soccer is dangerous many a player had career ending injuries, but nobody puts a gun to their heads, they do it because they love it and are good at it, in the case of most jockeys they were born into it.

Ruby has been on board for €37 million worth of prize money throughout his career,by all accounts he paid well over the odds for a farm in 2007. Joeseph O 'Brien has already rode horses that have amassed €13 million in race prize money.

So that would calculate at 3.7 million in prize money and counting, less tax of course.
How many rides a year at something like €150 per ride?, tv appearances, sponsorship, riding out, add it all up.
If Ruby had a career ending injury in the morning he certainly wouldn't need to rely on the public to fund him he could live comfortably off the interest alone for the rest of his life.

Maybe he makes a substantial contribution to the fund for his less fortunate colleagues?Deep Pockets and shorter hands.
Greaser I think you have missed one of his more substantial sources of income-His consultancy work,Cash Dollars.

Agree with the overall tone here. Felt the same when I heard Ruby Walsh on with Matt Cooper and on RTE this week with the same message "We are good to give" All I ever got off Ruby Walsh and indeed Tony MCCoy was a smart answer or attitude or a request for money anytime I ever went near them. I wouldn't give either of the 2 of them the time of day.
On a separate note I thank the lord for small mercies that the young fellow got paralysed the same time as JT as McManus will now be forced to look after them both

This so called charity day is a load of smelly shhiite.........why cant MacManus just look after these 2 unfortunates privately......and cut out all the showbiz.......theres no problem making millionaires out of horse traders......who are a short head in front of tinkers......in fact many have descended from same......why does he need the help with this......

Paulie you keep using a vulgar expression without knowing its meaning.
Does your dislike of jockeys extend to Davy Russell ?
Ruby gets a hard time here mainly because of his abrasive personality but that's his manner. Lustrumm is a decent fellow but does he honestly think that Ruby Walsh or A P McCoy can stop and chat to all racegoers, does he realise the amount of Yahoos that accost these men for winners and then roundly abuse them if they don't win.
The figures quoted by Silvergreaser are wrong as a jockey gets 8 percent not ten,he has to for some unknown reason pay a percentage of that to the HRI.
The good news for Paulie and Silvergreaser but the bad news for any decent people is Ruby and his father made some very poor investments and have considerable debt so have to keep working hard.

Well wildman I can assure that he's considerably better off than you and me, the only reason he has a job in the first place is because people like to bet on horse racing, if you couldn't bet on horse racing it would close down in an instant.

There are rumours circulating that an Irish sports forumite has landed a plum role with a leading racing personality who was recently seen to tip his hat in his direction.

Motor racing drivers are not paid millions because of the danger of the sport. They are paid millions but the sport attracts many multiples of this in TV rights, sponsorship and spectators. If if was not attracting the ultra premium brands it would not matter a jot how dangerous their sport was and they would be paid a fraction of what they get.

It was a great day by all accounts so all credit to those that went along, over 10,500 paid in. That is gutsy on a Monday. As others have mentioned hopefully JP will dig deep and ensure both families are looked after for eternity. Jeez anyone that has seen the the J.V Bright interviews on ATR could only be heartbroken. Mum giving up work and the Father selling the whole lot to give him the care he needs.
I take back what I said re Ruby, he was probably just emotional for the occasion. Whatever he said it worked anyway and fair play to all that went along today and am delighted the results went the way of the punters.
I wonder will the parasite boomakers (off course) throw anything into the pot.
Any sign of the usual suspects ,leon et al at the Track?

If big business or businessmen want to contribute that's their call..........many did including coolmore.
Silvergreaser......Sugar Daddy route is not always the best bet. Most sports help their own without pi&&ing and moaning. Do you sell lotto tickets at Moorefield or levy the wealthier club members.
