I don't understand John's philosophy here. He could install Trakus on Ireland's small number of tracks tomorrow. It's what the horse does on the track that counts, not what they do at home.

Probably has sectional timing at home. Hardly in his nature to install it on tracks to benefit other trainers and owners.
yes, but as one of the top horseracing enthusiasts in the world, surely improving the accuracy of performance evaluation on the racetrack, should be the number one goal for all enthusiasts?

John Magnier broke the record for a yearling sold at auction in Europe on day one of the Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale.
He was involved in a bidding war with David Redvers and then Sheikh Fahad for a Galileo full-brother to Secret Gesture and by the time the hammer came down the price stood at 3.6 million guineas.
MV Magnier told www.tattersalls.com: "He has the pedigree, he ticks all the right boxes, he is by Galileo out of a Danehill mare - let's hope he has an engine. Galileo, of course, speaks for himself, but you 'd never think you'd have to go that far."
The sale got off to a bright start when the Montjeu colt out of Madeira Mist was knocked down to Ross Doyle for 600,000 guineas on behalf of Sheikh Joaan's Al Shaqab Racing.
Consigned from Lady Chryss O'Reilly's Castlemartin Stud, the full-brother to dual Grade One Canadian International winner Joshua Tree was knocked down to Doyle after he saw off a determined effort by Dermot Weld and Badgers Bloodstock's Grant Pritchard-Gordon, say alongside Russian owner/breeder Alexander Nezhenets.
"He's a lovely horse," said Doyle. "We missed on one by the sire last week, but we are delighted to have bought this lad. He has a great pedigree, a very classy - there are some lovely horses here."
The first two-year-olds by Sea The Stars have caught the eye of many good judges of late with a number of good quality winners who look top-quality prospects for next year and so it was no surprise that his yearlings were in such demand on the opening day of the October Yearling Sale Book 1.
The highest-priced of his day 1 lots was lot 32, the colt out of Mood Swings consigned from Timmy Hyde's Camas Park Stud. The colt was knocked down to Mandore International's Nicholas de Watrigant on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing and Sheikh Joaan for 550,000 guineas after he saw off agents John Warren, Ed Sackville and Jamie McCalmont.
"We bought the Sea The Stars out of Alpine Rose last year," said Nicolas de Watrigant, "and we like him a lot. This is a good-walking, good-looking individual and we like the sire. We are not sure where he is going to go as yet."

The telephone number brigade seem to have dug up fresh reserves . Would have thought that the madness of some years ago would be a long time returning , but above report indicates there are still people out there with money in their satchels .
With prize money in UK at a relatively all time low , wonder who does the sums in various establishments . If I owned a horse it would only race in Ireland or France . And I dont think carting horses half way around the world works long term , apart from a few special horses . 50k to go to OZ and back and change hemispheres and conditions is suspect , So I Think .

We should all be glad that the prices are so high as that money is heading here,the vendors of the top lots were Irish.
The New York Racing Association is contemplating the installation of the Trakus data system at its three racetracks in 2013 and has plans to upgrade to high-definition broadcast capability, NYRA officials said on Friday at a meeting of the New York Racing Association Franchise Oversight Board.
The upgrades were cited during a lengthy review of NYRA’s 2013 budget in which NYRA chief operating officer Ellen McClain and chief financial officer Suzanne Stover were frequently grilled in an adversarial manner by several members of the oversight board who claimed to be seeking explanations for a variety of spending items and operating decisions. McClain and Stover remained diplomatic throughout the three-hour meeting, which opened with a 25-minute discussion over the accuracy of the previous meeting’s minutes.
The Trakus system, which is in place at Keeneland, Santa Anita, Gulfstream, and other major tracks, has been welcomed by many horseplayers for its ability to display full-field representations of races by using chips embedded in horses’ saddle cloths. The representations are far more accurate, timely, and comprehensive than a typical race order punched in by placing judges. In addition, the use of Trakus allows for more accurate transcriptions of race data to charts.
Stover said that the system would cost $1 million to install, though it was unclear at the meeting whether she was referring to an installation cost for all three tracks operated by NYRA or for a single track installation. If the association decides to go ahead with the project, Trakus would most likely be installed first at Saratoga, McClain said.

Ability on the track is probably the fourth consideration behind 1)confirmation, 2)pedigree, 3)precocity, 4)track. Whippets of Richard Hannon retired at the end of their 2yo career retired to stud and breeders queuing up at 7.5k a pop. The brilliant Harbinger shipped off to Japan because you'd probably struggle to get anyone to pay 12.5k. No 2yo form is a huge drawback.
