Just got an email off them saying im no longer entitled to Best Price Guarantee,Money Backs,Special Offers etc.
Im stunned by this as:
A)I only use the account for "interest bets" at the weekend,€20 or €30 accums on BTTS or a few NFL bets usually just on the live stuff.Even a few mug 1st G-S Lucky 15's.I don't even hardly ever back horses these days.
B)I'd be 99% sure im down a few quid on the account.Maybe not a lot but almost sure im behind on it.
I know people moan about bookies all the time but really surprised by this.
Is this a new direction for the famed fearless PP?
Anybody else receive this email lately?

That's the one.Hope you won more money off them than I did MrC Grin
Report silvergreaser October 9, 2013 11:10 PM BST
They all do it, remove the offers once you're established as a customer, frees up the offers for new customers coming in.
Report insideinfo October 9, 2013 11:14 PM BST
the reality is that they are not in fact a BOG bookmaker, they just want to advertise that they are in order to sucker in more new accounts..the BOG and most other offers etc are only going to be offered to complete mugs/those doing their plums.

if u get the email saying no more BOG for you sir dont take it as a compliment!
Report insideinfo October 9, 2013 11:15 PM BST
lol great minds silver greaser, just seeing your post
Report pa lapsy October 10, 2013 8:39 AM BST
No harm with the last couple of posts to highlight books for what they are.
Might be open to correction here but think its very discrimatory towards internet customers these restrictions(bog mainly) when any "Joe" can walk into their shops and get them, or is bog just on singles in the shops now?
Report silvergreaser October 10, 2013 8:54 AM BST
Singles only pa, Ladcrooks in Newbridge don't even give you bog and have reduced their L15's from treble the odds to double.
Report pa lapsy October 10, 2013 9:24 AM BST
I won,t think they would be doing a lot of business Silver, tis an important concession and is the books one real plus over the exchanges. Looking at their appalling prices on Irish racing lately hope ye are all shunning them up there.

Laugh classic, nearly choked on my corn flakes

Never set foot in Ladcrooks anymore but there's still plenty of lazy punters gracing their doorstep.
Report Kelly October 10, 2013 11:46 AM BST
Fewer and fewer , silver , Lads .  Their shares apparently are not highly rated in the bookies sector .

Re PP , got that missive myself , not sure why they sent it out , didn't have the luxury of BOG with them any more , they keep sending out casino offers , there should be an opt out somewhere on that as I have never been in a casino for a bet ( other than to look and wonder who thinks they can beat the numbers game , you cant  , so why try ? ) .

Worries me though when they keep sending out offers , makes me think automatically they think / know I am a loser and have to be encouraged to lose more . Reckon they have been invaded by the stealthy bean counters who remove the sporting element of betting .  Still the best out there on the high street , only bookies locally ( NI ) with some bums on seats every day . Maybe they are trying to push punters back into their offices or attract others where they know their competitors aren't trying a yard .
Report silvergreaser October 10, 2013 12:35 PM BST
Bad as they are I still think PP are head and shoulders above the likes of Spoilsports and Ladcrooks.

Thats the thing Kelly the bookie wants as many customers as possible to become hooked on the casino games if you win in the short term the house will get it back in spades.
Report wildmanfromborneo October 10, 2013 12:55 PM BST
Incredible as it may seem to ye lads but these bookies are trying to make money and it has always been so.
Report Kelly October 10, 2013 2:05 PM BST
Dont mind them trying to win money , wildman . Its the fact that they dont want ANYONE else to make money even though they have serial losers on file and their business is to "make a book " . Every race has winners and losers , and they have margins , sometimes healthy . Plus the shouting from the rooftops about what they have laid when we all know most of them wont lay an egg . PP not the worst , but maybe they have aspirations .
Report wildmanfromborneo October 10, 2013 2:13 PM BST
I have always argued that with any licence comes rights but also some responsibilities so when bookmakers get their licences they should have to abide by some rules such as no false advertising, that is when they quote a price they must lay it within reason.

These offers are just that and are not permanent, they are designed to blitz some opposition once that's done its removed.
Report Kelly October 10, 2013 2:40 PM BST
Aussies have some decent rules re laying  although their margins are wide as they have little competition ( The Tab takeout militates against competitive pricing ) .

The fact also that now all the early horse racing prices are Betfair trackers means the bookies  have very little to do to manage a market ( just Betfair minus 10% will give you a profit margin if your computer tracking system is efficient ) .

I suspect that some of the smaller bookies nowadays just operate on basis of making profit via exchanges on anything deemed to have a chance .  The concept of being an opinionated layer has disappeared as far as I can see .  Just follow the leader ( B/F ).

closed my ac with this shambles of a company today.last week they sent me an email meant for someone else.big implications for the guy who it was meant for in my book.?..today they sent me an email withdrawing the "offers".in spite of not having a racing bet with them for at least 9 months, due to severe and laughable restrictions. funny thing is i can walk into any pp shop and get a monkey on bog no bother.they are going the way of lads and spoils very fast.different parts of the company not knowing what other parts are doing..share price dropping and panic from the "powers"that be.
Report Kelly October 10, 2013 4:04 PM BST
Dont visit their shops too often , kavvie , except for the "big" meetings when they have some decent offers and turnover means there are few suspicious glances for decent money . However all their shops  here dont operate the same rules re BOG , depends on the shop "next door" . And singles only usually .

Wont be surprised to see more restrictions in their shops , seems the culture has changed slightly  , not that it bothers me much . Cheers .
Report kavvie October 10, 2013 4:32 PM BST
same here.i only go into shops when im waiting on people!!
Report Rocketfingers October 10, 2013 4:47 PM BST
Kavvie that guy in Clare, the bookie you know? Would he lay a Billies or a boral price on football? And do you know if he'd lay much?
Report kavvie October 10, 2013 5:04 PM BST

I got an email from Baldy today saying withdrawing BOG, I backed a 12/1 loser at Brighton that ended up 6/1
Report Kelly October 10, 2013 9:25 PM BST
You are only supposed to back losers which drift , Mr Combustible .  Did you not read the small print ?  They are worse than PP by the way  , by a long way .

Ladcrooks are still taking all bets in their shops, though I cant get better odds  gauranteed in the ones that offer it near me.Spoils are impossible, staff give the camera number to the traders and they zoom in.They sent photographs of me and a workmate around to all their Dublin shops not to take bets without ringing.I got the same email off P  owers but the traders have lightened up a little with shop bets.

Reckon we will have to get John Malkovich or Jim Carey over as runners .

Wont be a problem in the North though , lots of people up here wear masks already .  Moot point if they are against the law and if so is it enforceable .  Blame Batman and Robin .

Like I said before the Bookies won the war. Not that they beat us but they took away the ball. Pointless exercise expecting to win punting regularly anymore. Take up another pastime imo.

I wonder with Paddies are they getting ahead of the curve w.r.t to the 3% betting Tax coming. With all the Indos gone bust now the argument about a tax increase putting them out of business is gone now.
Any of the survivors are no doubt betting "Harry" now for the regulars if they have any sense
Report Kelly October 11, 2013 11:12 AM BST
Winning the battle , lustrumm , not sure about the war , they may be shooting themselves in the foot long term when there are fewer and fewer decent punters .  There will always be the losers who have been identified and encouraged to keep betting .  The shrewdies , value , and informed punters are becoming increasingly marginalised  , and are being forced to compete with fellow shrewdies , fellow value , and fellow informed punters on exchanges , nobody wins much  in that scenario given none of them are fools .

But the shop punters will attract the attention of the bean counters , maybe has started already from the tenor of some posts on here , big brother is watching .
Report wildmanfromborneo October 11, 2013 11:36 AM BST
I would love to know when this great time when bookmakers didnt try to win and punters were winning left right and centre.

We have never had it so good, alternate ways to bet,we can now lay and there is no tax.We now see all the things we bet on,we can review races many times.

Its not easy to win just a little bit easier.
Report Rocketfingers October 11, 2013 12:01 PM BST
I rarely agree with wildclown but if you can get money down you should be hammering bookmakers imo or certainly winning, but the trick is getting money down. I have to say i honestly and don't care if no one believes me but i don't know what i would do if i did not bet in Asia now, i'm sure there would some soultion or maybe the only solution would not be to bet or still live in a major city with access to lots of shops but as i said even yesterday i went in to have a punt on a team for a match at the weekend and i got zilch on it. They're more in the money collecting business that sports betting some of these firms.
