Its a great idea but again its on a race day,do Kevin Blake and Jessica Lamb not go racing.

Having said that would travel far to hear Kevin Blake as he is to me one of the best journalists around.
Report Gobbie September 2, 2013 11:10 AM BST
We have tried Friday's and they don't work. We polled our members online and got a large reply and 75% favoured Thursdays so we have to try and suit the majority of members. Racing will be on in the room.

Looking forward to hearing Kevin's views myself. It will be a fun night.

These are a great idea and I reckon I'll finally be able to make it up for this one. Racing fans should support this sort of thing when someone goes to the effort to get it organised.
Report paulie wallnuts September 2, 2013 12:01 PM BST
ya should get wonky to give his views.....now that would be worth travelling for......id walk from Galway for that......the expert paddock watching.....the workriding......greyhound training......pro punting without the 2 favs.......following rovers......and now aston villa......keen golfer......surviving an imaginary cancer scare.......what a life he has lead......
Report Distant View September 2, 2013 1:51 PM BST
Hopefully ChildofMine2 will give his views on the Greyhound Derby semi finals as well. I may turn up with Premier Fantasy to chew the fat on that one.
Report neill d September 2, 2013 6:59 PM BST
Blake is out ahead of all the racing journalists. I am in Dublin for 3 weeks from the following week and am sorry I am missing this. seeing how Blake works through a race would be useful to anyone.
Report kingrat September 2, 2013 9:25 PM BST
yeah,i would have alot of time for blake, hes got the smarts and knows his stuff.
Report The Gotchee September 2, 2013 9:33 PM BST
Kevin Blake is a class act. He throws a different perspective on race form and analysis.
Report Kriskin September 2, 2013 11:05 PM BST
Blake's a guesser just like the rest.  Very few win at this game by going on form and stats.  The game is not a level playing field.  Have seen Blake many a time lost for words after races just like Gary O'Brien.
Report Kriskin September 2, 2013 11:08 PM BST
Gobbie - well done for organising this event.
Report richters September 2, 2013 11:13 PM BST
yes kevin blake it seems is a new breed to the irish racing journalist fraternity and it has to be said he is not afraid to rock the gravy train, however it has to be seen how long he will last at the top of his game when his peers on the gravy express start to feel neglected and the channel sponsors step in......i hope im wrong because the guy is a topclass pundit/journalist
Report The Gotchee September 2, 2013 11:25 PM BST
Kriskin,go down to the pharmacy and buy yourself a bottle of "Kop On" lotion.
Report neill d September 3, 2013 12:12 AM BST
I'd rather someone lost for words than spouting inane dribble and out-of-context cliches.
Report Kriskin September 3, 2013 12:19 AM BST
Don't see the big deal with Kevin.  He was on here for long enough before. Could he NOT survive on here??
Report neill d September 3, 2013 12:29 AM BST
Once you're getting paid for your opinion, I wouldn't be wasting my best material on here either KriskinGrin
Report richters September 3, 2013 12:33 AM BST
kriskin,he is very good in what he does and not afraid to speak above the parapett but i used to think the same about gleeson until he reckoned that lizzies oss winning the ascot gold cup was one of his greatest moments in racing......
Report redbait September 3, 2013 8:44 AM BST
Kriskin,
Who isn't guessing in this game? It is all about educated guessing, nobody knows the result before the race.

Your attitude is typical of a losing punter, thinking that its only insiders that win at the game, which is absolute rubbish. Some of the worst punters I know are the best informed in terms of inside info and the reason they are such bad punters is that they think they don't have to work at the form because they are getting all this information.

Inside info is the single most overrated factor in racing, as most of it is passed on by people that don't have a clue. This is why the bookies in Kildare/Newbridge/Newmarket are amongst the most profitable shops for the bookies, as they are full of people that think they know it all because they talked to the trainer/jockey, yet they really know nothing and their results prove this.

This is a level playing field and every successful punter that I know, and there are loads of them out there, are out and out form men. If every punter like you took their head out of their arse and realised that anyone can make it pay if they put in the work and stayed disciplined, they'd be a lot better off.
Report Kriskin September 3, 2013 9:02 PM BST
redbait - U know fook all about me.  To say I'm a losing punter u so far out of ur depth.  Go on to the NFL, Rugby, Motor Sports or US Racing froums and u will soon find out the real truth about me.  I've been trading on here for over 10 years I can tell u now I aint a losing trader/punter.
Report Ozymandius September 3, 2013 9:07 PM BST
This is a level playing field

Report redbait September 3, 2013 9:35 PM BST
I couldn't care less about your sport betting, Kriskin. We're talking about racing, a completely different game. Look at Harry Findlay, very successful on sports, but lost the lot on racing. Do you bet profitably on racing?
Report Kriskin September 3, 2013 9:43 PM BST
redbait - If u go purely on form & stats on GB & Ire horse racing u will soon be in the poor house.  As Ozy has highlighted above the horse racing game aint a level playing field in these countries.  It's one of the reason I concentrate on other sports.  Apologies if I'm came across harshly on my previous post.
Report wildmanfromborneo September 3, 2013 9:53 PM BST
You bet on U.S. racing Kriskin surely that's much harder than Irish racing.

I think you have a chance if you concentrate solely on Irish racing as you will pretty well know all the horses and you will certainly know the vagaries of all the tracks.
Report redbait September 3, 2013 10:01 PM BST
Trust me, Kriskin, there are an awful lot of people out there that win on Irish racing and do not get nor want inside info. As Wildman says, if you follow it closely enough and stay disciplined, there is a serious margin there to play with.
Report Kriskin September 3, 2013 10:14 PM BST
US Racing is much easier to read on form and stats.  The speed figures are very good indicators for US Racing.  My main US Tracks are Charles Town, Mountaineer & Turf Paradise.  Certain other tracks the betting patterns for certain barns are good indicators.  I do like Irish Horseracing.
Report redbait September 3, 2013 10:43 PM BST
I know lads that swear by US racing, but it wouldn't be to my personal taste. At the end of the day, as long as it works for someone and they make it pay, good luck to them. I just don't like when people call Irish racing a mugs game or whatever as I don't think that's fair. It's very tough, but it can be made work.
Report kavvie September 3, 2013 11:19 PM BST
kriskin where do u get ur form/speed figs etc for us racing?an awful lot of favs seem to win over there?you seem to be a guy that knows what hes talking about
Report Kriskin September 4, 2013 12:15 AM BST
kavvie - there are numerous form guides for US Racing.  I use DRF.com & equibase.com. DRF past performances is a good guide.  There's a fee for these sites

www.formgrids.com is another one that help you
Report kavvie September 4, 2013 11:39 AM BST
do u mostly back or lay or a bit of both?
Report Kriskin September 4, 2013 8:57 PM BST
Kavvie - a bit of both.  Depending on the make-up of the race that would make my decison either to lay or back.  An example would be if there was a race were there 2 or more who liked to be up front.  In this type of race you lay one of these depending on the price or you would back a closer again depending if it had the right credentials.
Report kavvie September 4, 2013 10:18 PM BST
i got caught a few times laying usa favs..not for much but usually after coming in from the pub..a dangerous mix.!!wont be happening again.

Anybody go tonight and if so, what were your thoughts? A record crowd for a Flat meeting apparently. Onwards and upwards for the Dublin Racing Club me thinks!

Heard there was an interesting discussion on Oxx COM?

Did Mr Blake or Ms Lamb win out?
Report kavvie September 6, 2013 11:54 AM BST
can we have a report please!?
Report ChildOfMine2 September 6, 2013 11:56 AM BST
There sure was. Basically they enlightened everyone as to whats going on even tho it hasn't been officially confirmed. Aga Khan shafting Oxx by taking the majority of his horses from him and the panel were critical of the Aga Khan for doing so. Basically saying that the Aga Khan goes by results and doesn't do loyalty as we've seen with Murtagh and Soumillon in the past. And after that insight, we moved onto the Flemenstar situation Happy

Nights like these are a breath of fresh air!
Report Distant View September 6, 2013 12:20 PM BST
Yes I heard that Oxx came in for criticism too but as KB said The Aga has hardly got loyalty running through his veins. His treatment of Stoute has never been good either.
Report ChildOfMine2 September 6, 2013 12:23 PM BST
Jessica was critical of Oxx for not being able to prevent the virus from coming into his yard this year, given that he's a qualified vet. Not sure I can agree with that but she was sympathical with him nonetheless. Apparently, the book on the Aga Khan is worth a read according to Cass, the MC. Real insight into the not so nice person he really is.
Report dj876 September 6, 2013 12:27 PM BST
Does the racing post sponsor the club or are the organisers employees?
Report ChildOfMine2 September 6, 2013 12:29 PM BST
Not too sure, don't think the club has an official sponsor......yet!
Report dj876 September 6, 2013 12:48 PM BST
As far as I am aware the organisers are employees of the Irish racing post (which I wouldn't have a problem with),was just wondering if they were official sponsors.
Fair dues to them for organising it, I am sure it's time consuming.
Report paddywhacker1970 September 6, 2013 2:07 PM BST
I thought it was very good. I didnt go in expecting to learn much, but it was very informative and it was refreshing to hear honest views rather the usual guff. I hope someone recorded it, as it was quite fast moving and it was hard to take everything in at times. There was a great vibe in the place and I will definitely try and attend again.
