Point is you are getting out and about and not potentially falling into a rut, which in reality is the bigger picture.Fair enough as you say why bother but that E75 is what you earned by your own initiative and you aren,t under obligation to the state for it.
Never know what will happen by the few hours you are working now and sincerely hope something comes of it.In the UK multi nationals(tesco poundland) were using claimants to stack shelf etc and giving them nothing.
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y July 17, 2013 10:33 PM BST
Ain't the likes of tesco only hiring people for 20 hour a week jobs now but instead of them working that over 3 days where they would still get a supplement off the dole they have to work those 20 hours over 5 days thus not getting anything more and coming out with more than likely no more money than they'd get for sitting on their arse all week Confused

Meant it in the context DJQ while T6 isn,t getting the gain of money for getting out of the leaba, its imo better than sitting at home for 7 days of the week.
Maybe the benefits(pension holidays) for the workers in tesco are being got around by them working so little hours Prem?

What work do you do Kingrat?

Pa Lapsys advice is well meant and correct.

Trap Six behaved honourably by telling the dole people about the work he got but I would hazard a guess that Trap Six paid huge amounts of tax when he was working so any dole he gets is but a fraction of what he put in.

Can you not just go to the Religious Order thread and read my detailed reply.

Fair play for answering my question but don't get your insulting behaviour towards Pa Lapsy and Tony two patently decent posters.

One piece of advice whatever about laying my selections don't do it with Pa Lapsy as your tank wouldn't last long.

Been in Spain and Ireland ( south ) over last 3 weeks .  Both countries officially struggling . Unemployment among young Spaniards is at horrific levels  , and the areas dependent on foreigners ( Costas ? ) are suffering from withdrawal of spenders . Big number of houses for sale .

The property fallout is having huge implications here , probably worse in South than North . The further I went south , the more I felt people were struggling financially . One in 6 householders more than 3 months in arrears on mortgage . Emigration hitting hard , nearly everyone I talked to had children in Australia or America or Canada as well as in UK . Skype the saviour for peace of mind / regular contact .

Re original poster , being out there is possibly the only way to establish contacts and retain sanity while looking for some work to suit your talents . Anyone sitting around most of the day ( even if submitting application forms etc) may descend into a downward spiral .

Think things will get better , timescale hard to predict . And if I look at natural resources I wonder why the economy is in poor shape . No potato famine imminent , but I noticed seemingly less activity farming wise ( livestock / crops ) as I drove from Cork to Belfast . Cant figure that out , land is a big asset . Support local produce / producers only advice I can offer , even if it costs slightly more .  Selling our souls to the multinationals always backfires , one large soft drinks company  apparently paid less than 200 dollars to the Irish exchequer recently ( for a years trading presumably ) . And I am not sure those G8 guys and gals want to level the playing field in respect of paying tax to country where profit is generated .

Bought some new ( Irish / Comber ) potatoes yesterday in Tesco , after about 5 minutes searching the potato racks . Initially I found myself buying locally packaged potatoes , but they were grown in Holland . Reckon the Dutch are in better shape than we are , back on shelves pronto . I do buy their tulips though if passing through Schipol . Our beef , fish , vegetables , food generally are as good as anywhere in the world , just not sure we are getting the benefit we should from that fact . I managed wild salmon twice in 2 days in Youghal , first this year , none in Kerry ( legal anyway ) -- how did we let such a natural resource ( eating and sporting ) effectively die ?

Report trap six July 19, 2013 1:32 AM BST
ozy,i get 188 a week from the dole, the fact that I was self employed did make it hard ,but if youre taxis in order and have your accounts properly signed off and up to date to when you stopped trading, you are entitled to social welfare, you will have to be means tested etc,but you are entitled to it.
anyway I went and done my shift again this eve ,as a previous poster said,at least im getting out,lol

a bit harsh mp06, hundreds of thousands of jobs available out there roll up roll up if you want a job?.

This country is ****, what once was your job with at least a semblance of a future has now become a dead end job with no light at the end of the tunnel and a government so detached from normal working class reality I'm surprised we havent burnt down the Government buildings by now?, oh but we're such a passive nation and this gutless government know full well they can get away with blue murder as the masses brood.

Water charges should be the final straw before the masses ignite but alas just like everything else they threw at us we'll take it on the chin as we always do, but whatever you do don't mention the Brits or we'll be up in arms?.
Report mp06 July 19, 2013 9:05 AM BST

dont worry Enda has just announced a 3 point plan to take 75k off the dole

* Engage differently with people who are unemployed.

* Revive the construction sector.

* Demonstrate that work can actually pay.
