Not a fan o backing two shorties, especially on easy courses where any gulf in class can be minimised, but took the 20s e.w Zach Johnson, and the 9s e.w on Stricker that Corals stuck up. First bet with them in a long time!! Had more on Zach, as don't think he has much less chance of winning. His putting has been letting him down this year, though part of that is that his driving has been rather poor, and he isn't getting in position to hit his trademark wedges as close as one would expect. But at another of his favourite tracks, Colonial, he did find some form, and on Sunday also found some decent putting from, dragging himself into contention. Its hard to see him not involved here, they are some of the easiest greens around, and he has played very well before when defending titles.
Stricks case argues itself, the 9s is long gone, and I prob wouldn't bother backing at 7s, but these two could light it up between them.
Troy Mattesson at 150-1 e.w seems a value alternative. 3 top tens in the last 6 years, including a 2nd and 3rd. He has been in woeful form the last few months, but has at least turned the tide by making his last two cuts. He could very easily rise to the challenge at what is obviously one of his favourite and profitable courses.
Its not for everyone, but a sell of Kevin Sutherland at 55 in the finishing position market with sporting index, could prove quite profitable, with not much downside. Indeed, in 6 of his last 8 years here, it would have resulted in a profit, 3 o them being of the healthy variety and 3 more resulting in a bigger profit than the loss his one missed cut would have resulted in.
Cases can be made for the likes of Charlie Hoffman, Brendan de Jonge, Ryan Moore....and other players who have proved to be capable of going low. But im sick of backing these c*ck teasers, who generally promise much more than they usually deliver.

Stricker has to be respected but despite winning 3 of last 4 and the stats obviously then telling you the price is good, it doesn;t appeal at all.

175/1 Brian Gay
41 year old Brian Gay is our final pick this week and he may not be one for the faint hearted. It has to be said that he has shown very little over the past few months and has a best placing of 38th (In the Masters!) since he was 24th in the Phoenix Open back in February. It therefore is very easy to forget that he is actually a PGA Tour winner this year, as he took the Humana Challenge back in January.
The Humana Challenge is probably the only other event this season that could compare in terms of the birdie opportunities that are provided and Gay’s rounds were 67-66-67-63 to produce a 25 under total of 263. Gay is actually a 4 time PGA Tour winner and it is clear that he excels on the easier courses where birdie/eagle is the name rather than protecting par. His 4 victories have been as follows;
Mayakoba Golf Classic - with 16 under par total of 264
Verizon Heritage – with 20 under par total of 264
St Jude Classic – with 18 under par total of 262
Humana Challenge – 25 under par total of 263.
Gay does tend to struggle on some of the tougher courses but this is certainly not one of them. His form may have been poor recently but he is still recording outstanding putting stats and ranks 22nd in Strokes Gained Putting. He is a terrific around the green player ranking 5th in Scrambling and 25th in Sand Save Percentage, so he should field comfortable attacking these big greens as he has the game to recover from mistakes. Gay also ranks 14th in the crucial Par 4 Performance category and while he is just 93rd in Birdie Average and 100th in Par Breakers, his previous performances on birdie fests provide comfort that he can find the birdies when his game is firing on all cylinders. His distance off the tee and ball striking can be an issue but we see this week that he is extremely excited about the Taylormade driver that he is using and he seems to be hitting it very well.
Gay has already recorded some excellent efforts at this venue with 9th place in 2011 standing alongside 12th in 2008 and 18th in 2007. We are banking on him recapturing some of his early season form, but this is just the type of course that can see him bounce back. Jonathan Byrd a similar profile to Gay, plays well on birdie fest courses, without a win this year though. Finished 10th in the St Jude Classic last month, form other than that is dire! Won this tournament on this course in 2007... so if he's going to find his form from about 2 years ago when he was playing great golf, this might be the place. 275/1 worth a nibble, I think he is too good not to bounce back sometime in the near enough future, at the price, worth a try this week

Pod scratching around trying to make the cut (seems unlikely), which is his level these days.
Good chance of making the cut now bar no errors in the last 3 holes, birdie the Par 5 and he'll be fine. Alas, he's more likely to bogey it.

BJG, surprised you are not out having a few sherbets in celebration of the Munster Final win...................that ref was poor again and I cant believe that the 3wise men on the RTE afternoon panel thought the red card had no bearing on the result. The 3wiser men on tonights Sunday game all thought differently to Loughnane and co...esp. Ger Loughnane.......was going to bet Zach at 7.2 on here after 2 rounds but opted not to.............

Thought it was a shockin decision myself to give the red, was a slight tap on the back of the helmet, was no swing or anything! Yellow at most. It was the ball hitting him on the head that had him in pain and that prob made it look a lot worse to the ref than it was. Thats what decided the game no doubt to me anyway, no way it would have been that comfortable in the last 10 mins
Limk may well still have won but playing 35 mins a man down is always gonna be a massive handicap

Yes well done, 14men in that heat was very difficult, so well done to Limerick and to the great John Allen. One real gentleman. Limerick shouldn't have had to wait this long as they probably let one or two slip, and sher that makes it sweeter.
Definitely been 1/2 that have slipped away! Would like to see a Dublin/limk final but thats a very long way away yet!
