anyone following the Dead heat story that wasn't from Kempton last Wednesday night. I had a monkey at 11/10 the horse and had no doubt I was up. I nearly fell over when he announced a dead heat after 40 seconds. Turns out Dave Smith was at his usual stupidity. Check out the email that forced the BHA to action and award the race to Extra Noble. Billis have paid out. I wonder will Laddies

I am writing because I am extremely concerned about what occurred shortly following the conclusion of the above race (26/06/2013, 7.20pm Kempton Park - £200 Free Bets At **** Maiden Stakes).
As I am sure you are aware, a photo finish was called, with the result being declared as a dead heat. What first concerned many people is the speed in which this result was declared by the judge. According to the clock on RacingUK, he declared the result a little more than 40 seconds following the horses crossing the line. When taking into account the time taken to call for the print, assess it, confirm the decision and announce the result, this seems like a remarkably short timeframe for the judge to be fully convinced that he had made the correct decision in a finish so tight that he declared a dead heat.
However, it is even more troubling that upon viewing the print which the BHA has published on the website, it seems apparent to me and to others who have viewed it, that it does not in fact show a dead heat but that No 4 Extra Noble was the winner of the race. Admittedly, this view has been formed from the low resolution print provided on the website, but Extra Noble clearly appears to have his nose ahead of his opponent.
A particularly close decision which springs to mind is the result of the 2011 Sprint Cup at Haydock Park, which took a number of minutes before a winner could be declared (official winning distance: a nose). With that, and other instances, in mind surely you must agree that 40 seconds to be able to fully analyse a print of a result so close that the judge deems it to be a dead heat, is an inexplicably short period of time?
The judge in question (Mr Dave Smith) has a reputation for calling close results very quickly and this has led to mistakes being made by him in the past. It may be the case that in this instance he has called the correct result, however I find it wholly inappropriate that someone in a position which requires the utmost diligence approaches it with what appears to be a remarkably cavalier attitude.
The nature of how our sport is funded means that maintaining the confidence of those betting on the sport is vital for its future prosperity. I am wholly of the opinion that incidents like this are extremely damaging to that confidence, and the actions of Mr Smith serve absolutely no positive purpose; quite the opposite. When millions of pounds are riding on the outcome of a race (and in this instance, not one of those pounds was mine), I believe that the people placing those bets, not to mention connections of the horses in question, deserve better.
With the above in mind;
1) Are you personally convinced that the correct result of this race was in fact a dead heat?
2) Are you able to provide me with the high resolution version of the print used to decide the result of this race, in order that I can be confident that the correct result was declared?
3) Can you confirm whether you or a senior member of your staff will be speaking to or taking any other action in relation to Mr Smith, and other judges, and reminding them of their responsibility to everyone involved in the sport, and that the lack of care I believe was demonstrated in this instance, can have a potentially serious and wide-reaching impact?
Those who care about the sport should be able to talk about the stories of the horses who make it what it is, not be left talking about the actions of a judge which lead to completely needless controversy - something which the sport could very much do without after the last few months.

365 after a bit of complaining from me have give my my winnings..admittingly its only £30 odd but at least they paid me out..i hope others will try to get it back?..i had to complain co,s at first they said they were not paying out.. |

Check out the print on the racing post website. It's not even close. Noble clearly the winner just as he was to the naked eye while watching it

laddies are awful..i closed my account with them when I couldn't get £100 on a well backed horse at 9.30am..i got £75 on the night before and they offerd 16.34 on the horse?..now im no big punter..although I do have a few bets a day which will add up..but laddies are a fuuck up..i feel for lustumm..but we must keep the pressure up on them to pay up..ive sent a e mail to them ..

DAVE SMITH, the judge at the centre of last Wednesday's controversial Kempton dead-heat verdict, which was later overruled, has had his contract terminated with immediate effect by the BHA.
On Monday the BHA amended the result of the 7f two-year-old maiden which Smith had called as a dead-heat between 16-1 Fire Fighting and even-money favourite Extra Noble, with a nose verdict in favour of Extra Noble. The swiftly-called result – which took less than a minute to announce – was questioned on social media and racing forums and, after the BHA examined a high-resolution print of the finish, Smith agreed to change the result, triggering an internal investigation. The end product of that came with Smith being relieved of his duties following a meeting with the personnel department at the BHA's London offices on Tuesday. A statement from the BHA said: "Following an internal investigation regarding the announcement of the incorrect result in the £200 Free Bets At **** Maiden Stakes at Kempton on Wednesday June 26, 2013, the BHA has established that standard operating procedures were not followed, and has today informed Dave Smith that it has terminated its contract of services with him. "Dave Smith will no longer act as a judge at British racecourses, but the BHA acknowledges his contribution and service over the last 13 years." |

It is not the first time that Smith, who is known for calling quick decisions to close finishes, has been too hasty when announcing a result.
In October 2011 he had to admit an error when hastily calling Vimiero the winner at Windsor before almost instantly reversing the decision and announcing Discoteca the short-head winner. |

Wildman Betfair treat their customers with so much contempt they don't even warrant inclusion. At least there is some chance no matter how tiny of reasoning with the others.
They surely will find it hard to hold out now that Smudger has been fired . Against that is the fact that Laddies sponsor ATR and they might have the arm put on them. Nobody is gloating with Smiths dismissal but to call a dead heat in 36 seconds with probably thousands upon thousands depending on that result was reckless in the extreme, Smith has only himself to blame for been out of a job.
