y tyranny was worth taking up arms against it was surely apartheid South Africa. Mandela shared power with those who had him locked up for decades, I'd have given De Klerk and his crew a one-way ticket to Robben Island

Though I must say that I thought his stance on apartheid was political correctness gone mad. Will the university-educated left-wing liberal elite ever learn?

There is no such word as bereaving, you probably mean grieving. You must have known him well.
No dissenting voice will be allowed,,certainly no mention of necklace killings.

Why would betfair ban wildman rocket?, I don't know if sometimes wildman is been deliberately provocative or he genuinely holds those views, either ways he's entitled to express his opinion without someone calling for him to be banned.

Not on someone else forum he isn't. Racism is a crime and should not be tolerated by any progressive or well meaning organsiation.
Greaser, if, for example, he was openly expounding pro opaedophelia views on here would you still be saying he is entitled to post his opinion?

A Racist are right up there so i agree, honestly greaser i'd have no time for who ever has these types of views, just because Nathan Bedford Forrest, Nick Griffin, Mussolini etc knew who won the 3:30 at Navan it would not mean i would have to entertain them or their views on society.

I have no doubt in the world the any Mandela fan would be warmly welcomed in South Africa of today that he helped to shape with his bravery, i see one or two people making snide right wing remarks. Not surprised at neddieK who don't forget is a Liverpool supporter a club founded by the Orange Order.

Of course a " Mandela fan " would be welcomed in South Africa his people are in power but would he be welcomed by those living in fear in gated communities, would he be welcomed by those with one passport and nowhere else to go.
Rocketfingers would you allow any differing opinions, any dissenting voice or would you prefer us to kowtow to the self loathing liberal orthodoxy now in place.

Is South Africa a better place because of Nelson Mandela
Without question.
His patience, grace, and foresight held the whole place together. Most African leaders, particularly one's with his life experience, would have taken vengance on the ruling white community. He recognised how important it was to pacify and include them. This held SA together. Without this foresight and restraint, SA would have rapidly become another failed African State.
Lets hope that know that he has gone, future Leaders have learnt from his example and can confront the countries huge problems and challenges in a similar manner.

First of all, the injustices perpetrated on Blacks under the Apartheid regime went far far beyond the difficulties endured by Catholics in Northern Ireland. To draw parallels, as you undoubtedly will, does Coloured South Africans a disservice.
Second of all, Mandela regrets the violent of his youth. At the time when ultimate victory was his, he choose peace and restraint, when vengeful violence would have been easy and satisfying.
Your boyos chose peace and restraint, solely because their campaign of violence and terror was going nowhere. It was their only option, so they took it.
Mandella chose to become a great Statesman for the greater good. He laid down arms when it would have been easier to pick them up.
We all know what is behind your question, Dickie.First of all, the injustices perpetrated on Blacks under the Apartheid regime went far far beyond the difficulties endured by Catholics in Northern Ireland. To draw parallels, as you undoubtedly will,
ye thats right oz because mk were like the old IRA according to fre staters in that they only uses water pistols.....so thats ok then they are freedom fighters....

Ozymandius @4.32 nails it dead centre. Oh-and since when did 'terrorist' and 'freedom fighter' become mutually exclusive terms ? One can be a terrorist without being a freedom fighter. One can be a freedom fighter without being a terrorist. One can be both. One can be neither.

It would be hard for anyone not to have respect for Mandela as a man but there does seem to be a lot of phony sentiment about, when he's 6 foot under the family will be tearing each other apart for his money.

There will be some massive row over Nelsons Nelsons.
The coverage of the death of a 95 year old has been nauseating in its sycophancy,a South African hero maybe but minutes silence at European sporting venues is miles over the top.
