Try to not let how you feel about everything be determined by your sectarian extremism.

It was wonderful when the Queens horse won.  First time I have see her properly smile and enjoy herself in years.  A lovey lady, does a great job and loves her racing.

i agree with richters.why was it wonderful?it would be better if someone not as wealthy won it...gleeson playing to the audience and totally over the top.

You are wrong about her smiling properly in years bit,she was all of a doo-dah on her visit to Cork and why wouldn,t she be.
Agree that the the reaction of her getting a winner was a little bit over the top, still puts a fair bit into the sport and coundn,t begrudge her in the slightest.
Brian Gleeson in fairness over the few days wasn,t slow to remind people it was yet another Irish trained winner maybe slightly more than he should have, still found myself saying you tell them Brian.

Pa. Cork was a couple of years ago, we had the Olympics and Jubilee etc since then and she suffered through them.

I don't think I have ever seen her as joyous as yesterday.

Richters, the roof rose at Ascot when the Queens horse won, it was a special moment for all.  Why should Gleeson, working for a British TV company, not convey this fact to his British TV audience?

Ah ffs Ozy, you are worse than Brixxx, she gave a few smiles and that was it,no punching the air,no running down to the unsaddling enclosure and throwing a Union Jack over the horses arrse, nothing like that, twas very muted though do understand that she needs to show a sense of decorum.

Exactly pa - where was the "Jaysus I'll have sex tonight" type of joyous remark

She's a Lady, Pa.

By her standards, yesterday was her equivalent of that scene in When Harry Met Sally.  She really let herself go!

Ozy are ya a Gok Wan type by any chance? Seriously believe there could be a vacancy there next year, Brixxx is after making a bit of a bollix of it,really think you may tick some or all the boxes. Between yourself and Marietta for the gig i think meself.

The Queen  herself is a class act per se . Not into the royalty thing myself , there is enough evidence that dynasties centred on families is fraught with problems .  But the English ( in particular ) buy into it big time , and they represent about 90% of Channel 4 viewers . So you have to play to your audience .

A sitting monarch winning a Gold Cup has never happened before , so its a real godsend to a sport which is not doing all that well in UK .  Take away the Arab money , and it would be on its uppers .

Gleeson I can take or leave , but at least his accent properly registers that the Irish have an input into the Ascot scene , a la Cheltenham influence , particularly this year with so many premium winners . And presumably he knows some stuff about horses and betting .

The only thing that puts me off Ascot coverage is the obsession with fashion and the insistence on top hattage .  Top hats etc I assume were designed to make small males look big and big males bigger .  Thats where that aspect ends for me . Particularly uncomfortable wear  when temperatures are in mid seventies ( 25 degrees ? ) . But Moss Bross and co dont complain .

Ozy says thats the first time he's seen her properly smile in years and follows that up with she's a lovely lady.

Wouldn't you think Ozy if someone hasn't smiled properly for years would suggest the opposite of lovely lady, boring stuck up old hag would sound more appropriate.

Maybe she is a lovely lady but she certainly doesn't come across as one and I agree with Pa that yesterdays smiles seemed almost forced because everyone else was dancing around among her that she said to herself I better crack smile here to keep everyone happy and pretend I was thrilled to bits?.

But I don't agree with Pa about her pumping money into the sport as if she's doing this for philanthropy purposes, its just an ancestry thing handed down through generations.

As for Gleeson I agree with richters he seems to be trying too hard to fit in and it shows.

the fish monger in cork had her in stitches last year?...she owns half of britain, she should have had a gold cup winner years ago if she tried with all her money

Never meant pumping money into the sport for the good of it Silver, more she has a love of racing. As far as i know she has a stud and her interest in it follows a business model as well. Point with the ancestry is right as think they always had horses(some derby winners?).
Very much open to correction on the next point but would it be fair to say the people cheering her yesterday have given her the funds to put that smile on her face and is it morally right to spend it on racing?

Kavvie, think it is the same fishmonger that gave me a horse in Clonmel about 7/8 years ago, had the race won at 14/1 and broke his leg coming down the hill.Cry

How does he get the gig commenting on the action in the betting ring,he is an auctioneer and a horse breeder and knows nothing about the betting industry.

What qualifications do you need to comment on the betting ring?

Gary Wiltshire is a former bookmaker and I'd have Gleeson over him any day of the week

Any person who makes a statement that the 1st winner that is backed from 12/1 to 8/1 and ends up 3rd choice behind a weak 2nd fav Joyuesse is an absolute screamer for the books shows a complete lack of knowledge off the betting ring.I would say it was a just win result for most books with some doing no good in the race.I dont think the IAVI teach you that one db.

Brian Gleeson's knowledge of the racing and betting industry is immense.
What people seem to forget is that the few hundred people on these forums are not the complete(if at all)target audience off these programs.
It doesn't make sense for Mr.Gleeson  to talk about bots cross matching etc and hence he acts out the character of "The right people are on"etc.etc.

I think he(wife) still holds the record price for a publicly sold national Hunt horse in Ireland.
He doesn't own half of Waterford as quoted  in jest on here but he has done well for himself, has a decent sized stud farm with the likes of Binocular's dam.
He also does a bit of pre-training-Riverside Theatre and many more are in his care in the summer months. He is also an Auctioneer and is a silent partner in his family's very successful business.
