I don't know how you could argue with Dermot's decision. The horse has a history of leg trouble and by bypassing today's race they can hope to get a couple of runs out of him this season and look forward to next year with him. If they ran him on that ground they'd be running the risk of ending his career today. The horse doesn't owe them anything so why risk his career?

Seems every horse he has has some sort of niggly problem.

A few of his runners of late have suffered from lockjaw...

I think mr Weld knows what that horse has gone through and would hate to mess him up

The horse is more valuable than you are Silvergreaser, you Grade A w@nker

If it makes you feel superior so be it, I gave an opinion like it or lump it.

Smullen back for four races is a by product. He hasn't had a winner for near a fortnight since pale mimosa won the Savel Beg. Winner badly needed.
Goodwood Cup the logical alternative. |

The horse may be valuable but as he is a gelding worth little standing in a stable, all Silvergreasers points are valid, the fact is he won his GOLD Cup on good to firm ground.

Must have been a difficult decision for Dermot as the horse worked really well at Fairyhouse last week but I wonder did the memory of green screens around Media Puzzle at the finising line of the Gold Cup play a part in it ?

horse had 1 run on 2011, 1 in 2012, yet to run in 2013..........he does this with a lot of his horses. they are always resting.

The Greaser's question is a valid one, he might have won that there today and whatever he has been through, he is an animal, and that is the attitude most real stock men take. Weld is in a position of comfort to have taken that call. The everyday man would have run and anyone who says anyway different hasn't a clue quite frankly.

bets and all of it aside, the Ascot Gold Cup is an anachronism that lost all relavence years ago. Right of Passage couldn't even win a 2 and a half mile hurdle at Cheltenham, different weights and all I understand to consider, but Simenon getting that close suugests that race is a joke, good run at Chester. You could probably wheel Yeats out of retirement with his lad hanging out and he would piss it. shrewdest men in the bussiness ran a heap of **** that got beat by won of welds (who probably would have won this) 2 weeks ago. They'll decide when it is relevant again, but that today was a world class jockey turning **** into butter, no more no less, I'd say he's have won on Simenon too.

Hughes has played the bloody fool all week as well. He is a great jockey no doubt, but I reckon being out manned by Manning got in his head. narrow margins, no one exceeds him for talent, but if your life was on it, you'd have Moore, or even someone like Manning, because they ride the same standard of race every time. Hughes is a flakey genius that will win ones he shouldn't, but also lose ones he should win. History will show that Montiridge stays better than Gale Force Ten, there is **** all wrong with a horse going out on his shield!! 95% of the tank was gone, no harm asking the other 5% in a race at Ascot, not as if the breeders are gonna be queuing up anyway.

Dont know all the ins and outs of that particular horses career , cant ever recall backing it , possibly because of its relative fragility . But its the trainers / owners call , the horse is in their care , and even if its not going to found a dynasty the horses well being is of significance .
Only people to be aggrieved should be those who bet ante post , it cost them obviously , but I am not one of those , Brownes Gazette put me off ante post many moons ago . Simenon going for Melbourne Tuesday . Must have a chance , very few of the Aussie horses stay , its all about speed there like USA . |

Listen lads why don't ye give DKW a break, give him a big break.........

Fair enough the horse had its problems but Dermot seems to take the cautious approach to the extreme.
Many of us thought Unaccompanied was the only conceivable danger to Quevega in the Mares hurdle but alas Unaccompanied met with a slight set back and will miss Cheltenham, so many of his horses entered for big races regularly meet with slight set backs or are totally dependent on ground conditions. Its lucky they pumped water on the track overnight otherwise he would probably have been considering pulling out Big Break as he was nearly going to do at the Curragh because of the fast conditions, at least this one is owned by Prince Khalid who insisted that Gosden run Remote yesterday when Gosden was expressing his doubts about the ground, turned out the horse bounced off it. |
