A really competitive card on the opening of the royal meeting ..In the first i like the look of Trade Storm this lad has it on to do , but if getting a really strongly run race I think he has a great e/w chance....Reckless Abandon will come on a ton for his last race and looks sure to be involved in the finish....I think D/A is worth another chance , up until his last run were he showed signs of nerves he'd been outstanding , I'm taking a chance there will be no repeat of that horror show....Stubbs , I really like this fellow's attitude , He has battling qualities that will stand him in good stead in this tough race ....
Good to see ya posting WR. Just on Silvergreasers post while i,m with Dawn Approach, won,t be that easy even if relaxed, not always reliable but on a line through Van den Neer, Magician is well entitled to give him a race. Only other bet is Tiger Cliff 5.00, was impressed with him on his seasonal debut and the 2nd won a decent handicap since,6th that day has also won. Good but competitive racing, best of luck.

pa the last time workrider went racing in Sligo he announced to everyone in the bar that he'd buy a round on his next visit - that's why it's taken him 20 years to go back there!

All good here thanks workrider, hope all is well with you and the family.
Sadly I can't make it to the golf in strandhill my friend, but I heard norn is free that day along with his high-powered golf buggy ...... does he still run that thing on bio-degradable whisky??

Good and bad memories the last time I traveled all the way to Sligo to catch Kildare play Sligo in a qualifier, Kildare were leading by 2 points with 4 minutes to go but Sligo mugged us with 1-1 in the final few minutes, apart the disappointment of losing we had a great w/end stayed in the Yeats hotel a few mile outside of town a small bay area cant remember the name I must have been sober?, maybe Rocketfingers will enlighten me.
When we went into town we found a small working class pub up a side street where all pints and shorts were €3, of course we made it our local for the w/end but don't ask me the name either?.

Good opening post from the great WR..........last time wr that I was in Yeats County it was to Markievicz Park, and it was a draw... and that's a while ago.
Pa, Hughes said in his column last Sat that Van den Naer would not get out of 3rd gear up the Curragh. So the form line that you feel a wee bit concerned about is most definitely suspect.I think the Irish 2000gns was a poor race, and the race he won in Chester was also a poor event though he looked impressive. I'm with DA and getting more confident by the minute. The late Henry was keen on Tiger Cliff, I read somewhere. I wish I could be as confident about Camelot as some of the lads are, but remember he had that colic scare, and he looked very ordinary last time and I cant see why he should reverse form with Al Kazeem. He Seemed to just come and do Camelot when he wanted. I know Ted and Robert Hall were not impressed with Camelot, and yes I'm aware of the APoB factor, but I don't think he would wanted Camelot beaten the last day...its a tough call. I fancy W Buick for top jockey and 12/1 with Powrs.

Coventry looks a cracker . Stubbs arguably the best Irish 2yo and that would normally suffice. But Championship was hugely impressive on his one run and at the odds I'm going in e/w. Strange they're running War Command who won fto over 7f.

Henrythenavigator won over 7f on debut before going for this race.
Stiff finish and you have to stay strongly.
Landseer also won over 7f before he won.

5-1 Toronado looks a cracking e.w bet. Obviously have to take it on trust that he is over the problem that troubled him in Guineas, but the price allows for that. Dawn Approach is no star, Magician had the race set up for him at the Curragh, and a very bad classic it was. Backed Toronado last year, ante post for guineas & derby, and am not waning in my belief of him yet. Laid Animal Kingdom in the first, and backed 3 e.w in Powers against him, with them refunding if he wins. His price and this offer gives it a good e.w shape. Went with Elusive Kate, Aljamaheer, Gregorian. Was very impressed with Sir John Hawkins on debut. He has plenty to find to be troubling the judge here, and maybe he is not as forward or precocious a type as Stubbs, hence why Joseph takes the mount there, but I would have little doubt that Hawkins will prove the best of this lot in time, and hopefully he has learnt enough from debut to get home in front today. Am pretty keen on both Mubaraza and Midnight Oil in the marathon, with a small few quid e.w on Suraj. Mubaraza will surely relish this extended trip, more so than Tiger Cliff I would think. Midnight Oil, has been in good form over hurdles, looking to be still an improving sort. Considering he won a decent 12f handicap off only 8lb lower nearly two yr ago, you would have to think the combination of general improvement since and the extra distance today would see him very competitive off his current mark. Suraj never got into the Chester Cup, but many didn't in a very rough race. I could see Spencer carving through the field off the bend, and looks a good e.w play. Willbeme in 3.30 Thirsk(flattened out when in need of run last day, well handicapped), and Spieth 8.40Kemp(unlucky to bump into big improver, who raced on faster strip the last day...now Spieth up in trip which will suit), look to be two good bets elsewhere.

Yeah Kelly very disappointing last time when he had everything in his favour. Showed some burst of speed there, I'm not sure if Johnny really meant to leave that late?.

lads, seriously, why on earth do we bet on the ponies?
largely unsupported third string horse runs away with it. If AOB doesn't know how on earth are we supposed to figure it out?

Good point Ozy . But they are only 2 year olds , big babies really .
Vincent seldom won with the "wrong un " though .
4 now , getting too easy ( no bet there though for me ) .

5-0 . Sorry , thats 4-1 , even though its Irish owned , Irish ridden , and trained by an Irishman .
Not sure a lot will have backed it though . "Finally a British trained winner" a la Boyce , though he stole my lines .

Hope you had plenty on , giant strides . What sort of price was it -- I did not see the race or follow the betting ( just re-runs , but impressive ) ? Know it was 25/1 SP on here , but did it move around pricewise much ? It wont be that sort of price again unless there a few better lurking in Ballydoyle .

Listen ladz, I think Fahey has a decent shout in the first with Garswood and PJ Smullen is a positive ( with his big race exp.), this fellow was being hailed as a star by some early on in the season, and won well first time out, so they went for the 2000gns., of course, no luck there but back to 7f today, and with the Fahey stable flying, stable's runners went well yesterday Fahey could click here..............I just cant back Camelot....e/w William Buick there for me, and finally Duntle has a great chance for David Wachman who is not to my belief a Royal Ascot virgin..........

al kazeem looks strong in the 3.45, camelot is champion horse, lots of people that doubt the horses ability. ive seen the race in ireland and al kazeem looked powerfull, hope its not another case of being decieved by my own eyes. only worry is al kazeems trainer mentioned the horse wouldnt want the ground to fast, baking hot in england over last few days, not sure if what he said is significant. camelots health problems thats put me off selecting that as a bet. thing is you never know which one will be tuned up for the win today. goodluck all

Gotta say Jay is doing fairly well with his picks over on here the last few weeks, have not backed them but am watching how they go. Duntle is a great little filly and she stuck it out well-backed her in Leop when she was thrown out, didnt go with her today.

I just watched the race kelly. No complaints. I thought one of his other two were more likely winners. Good horse.

2:30 - Heart Focus 20/1 - Bolger rarely sends a horse across the water without a chance - hopefully get a place and with a bit of luck sure who knows
3:45 - Rehns Nest 16/1 - Bolger again
5:35 - Jamesie 20/1 - 2nd in this last year. Results not as good this season although his 7th (of 26) over the CD on 11-May was actually a very decent effort as he missed the break slightly and was finishing well at the end. He was never going to win it but if he had broken cleanly he would have been placed at least.

Started under 2/1 here Kavvie so went shorter, also was bet from over 3/1, fair play though good call, tbh i was just laughing at your point that some people wanted back while some other people want to lay it.

Have backed Fantastic Moon at big prices, think he will love the ground, should stay (Dalakhani) and some of his form last year is quite good. I don't like the favourite at all.

rocket do you not understand the point i was making?if i wanted to have 100k on one that was 3.5 here 3 hours before the race id have to go down to under evens normally.it didnt happen in this case.people were taking the big amounts at 3.4/3.65..so it didnt shorten at that time frame because people were happy to lay it at the price...geddit?

Kavvie but you do understand it's Royal Ascot we're speaking about? It's not Southwell on a Monday in January mate. It's very competitive racing, harder to move horses in the market, layer willing to take bigger risks etc etc esp the closer to race time it becomes. The fact is the price kept reducing.

rocket i looked at the graph at 12..there was 600k matched on the fave.it was still 3.55.there was 50k matched on 2nd fav at that time.so there was people willing to lay large amounts early.very unusual i can assure you.a group3 in ascot it was.there was way less on bolgers the other day in the group one at same time.the liquidity was unreal early on.because there were big money layers.
